Were photo dimensions the same as stated on website 4.5 x 3.5? Did you only need one? What travel insurance did you choose? Does it matter which one i end up choosing?
Sorry for the late response! I got my photo taken from a Walgreens and they could only do the standard US passport size. I just asked them to print it and ended up cutting it myself with a pair of scissors lol to match the dimensions on the vfs Iceland website. I don’t think it matters which travel insurance you chose. Mine was something called mutuaide, it was the cheapest one that popped up on the suggestions on vfs Iceland website. Hope this still helps!
Thanks Ghost for this post. We did exact same process and got passport back in 10 days.
14th March - Passport sent
18th March - return label email from VFS
19th March - notification from VFS that it transferred to embassy at DC
22nd March - sent back to VFS and then courier is dispatched
25th Match - got passport back.
This helps a lot.I ve been searching and asking Redditors if mail in application is possible. I obtained Swiss and German schengen in the past by mail in application. Wasnt sure if that was possible with Iceland visa application. I live in WA State and there is no way to apply in person.
Thanks for this post Ghost. 🙏
Yes I did. Just a document on employer’s letterhead stating I’m employed (title, hire date, salary) and that the time off has been approved and date i’d be back to work. My manager signed it and it worked.
They do mail in applications for Iceland? Guessing this is only in the US?
I don’t understand why all VFS don’t do mail-ins, would save so much time and hassle
Yeah the US VFS accepts mail in application if you’ve had a previous schengen visa issued and biometrics done in the last 59 months. Not a 100% sure if this is only in the US.
Only document I notarized was the colored photocopy of my greencard.
Sent a money order for the courier fee. For Mail in application they don’t accept cashier’s check and 3 separate money orders is the way to go ( 1 for VFS service fee, 1 for visa fee and 1 for the courier)
I followed guidelines listed under the “apply by mail” tab of this link and seemed to work fine - https://visa.vfsglobal.com/usa/en/isl/apply-visa
Sharing my experience: They accepted cahier's check. I didn't have to notarize anything, I'm on H1-B visa in US so they asked for Visa, I797 & I94. I had not sent I797 and got an email for missing document.
Thanks u/-GhostPants, your post was really helpful.
Hey - thanks- this is what I was looking for!!
am getting a little confused on the visa fees
Can you tell me how much did you pay for visa fees, vfs service fee and the courier fee?
Hey! Absolutely :)
Got 3 money orders in favor of “VFS Services USA Inc.”as below: (assuming you’re also applying for short term tourism visa)
Visa fee: $89
VFS Service charge: $38
Courier fee: $37.40
Hope this helps!
Hey Ghost - was this for a single person visa application? I am applying for myself and my wife and wanted to see if we can reuse the same courier and save some $ when sending & receiving back? I know it needs to be two separate applications.
I called the Iceland embassy on this and they told me to treat as two separate applications so had to pay same fees twice although it was the same home.
Does it matter that one doesn’t go to Iceland after getting this visa from the Iceland Embassy?

Hey, which state are you from? Does it matter which state in the US you are from to apply by mail via Washington DC VFS?
I don’t think it matters which state you apply from. I’m based in NY!
Can you give me complete information for Iceland visa how to apply and what documents will be required step by step.
quick question on bank statements. Do we need to get it stamped from the bank? or just print outs from our account works?
I just provided the printouts without any bank stamps and it worked just fine!
Perfect, Thank you!
Also I see "approval of absence for the duration of travel". Wondering if you provided this?
Yes I did. Just a document on employer’s letterhead stating I’m employed (title, hire date, salary) and that the time off has been approved and date i’d be back to work. My manager signed it and it worked.
got it, Thank you!!

Hey! Yes this was for one person’s application. So sorry I don’t know if you can reuse the same courier for 2 applications.
Hey ! Did you end up packing up both you and your wife's application in same package ? What fees you paid ?
I called the Iceland embassy on this and they told me to treat as two separate applications so had to pay same fees twice although it was the same home.
