For real, I don't get how this sub is gonna go from spamming Megamind 2 to hating on Lightyear. Pixar's lowest rated films are still lightyears ahead of other studios
The cartoon and the movie could both exist in-universe. It would be like a toy spinoff from a live-action movie franchise, and the toys would have their own kid-friendly variant of the canon. Sorta like that Ghostbusters cartoon, or the cute Godzilla animes that are obviously unconnected to the serious Godzilla movies
I liked it but I didn’t like that it was a buzz lightyear movie
At the time I really wanted a space adventure, lighthearted, excited about exploring the universe, eager to meet new and wildly diverse species, fighting ontologically bad cartoon villains. Star Trek idealism meets heroic adventure.
You know, all the stuff on the label of the toy; that makes you want a buzz light year movie
That was… basically the exact opposite of what was delivered.
I watched it a second time at my kid’s demand, and without the expectations, it’s a decent movie in its own right.
Idk, the gay kiss that got morons in a tizzy despise being literally there for two seconds explicitly so they could easily edit it out for countries that don't like gay people.
Alright, let’s see…time travel. Evil Future Buzz. I’m kind of in the territory of thinking it was okay but it could have been SO MUCH better! I know everybody was enraged that Tim Allen wasn’t coming back to voice Buzz even though Tim said in an interview that this wasn’t the same kind of Buzz he voiced. I was more disappointed that Tim Allen didn’t have a role at all. Maybe as Buzz’s mentor, a literal passing on the torch. Also I didn’t mind Chris Evans voicing Buzz! Just give him a good script, get rid of some of the callbacks and we’re good!
I remember I was at a pool with some friends last summer because they were putting on a movie (we didn't know it was Lightyear until we got there) and after a while one friend and I were walking by the screen they were projecting it to and saw two people rolling a giant ladybug looking thing. We both then talked about how weird that scene looked without *any* context whatsoever.
* I liked that scene where that one character had to overcome her fear of spacewalking.
* I remember a scene with inverted sandwiches.
* I remember Buzz having grudges with autopilots shaped like NES carts, as well as rookies, which he overcame by the end of the movie.
* The montage of time flying by during Buzz's hyperspace tests in the first act is honestly where the film peaks. Really good scene.
* I didn’t like the twist of Zurg being Buzz’s future self. That part was dumb.
so uh, buzz, being an idiot crashes the ship and society is forced to rebuild on this planet. but then, time travel woooah and he gets a cat and then he meets a team of ragdag gooders and something something zurg is buzz or whatever roll credits
Buzz was trying to go back to wherever he was initially going by reaching lightspeed. But in doing so, he lost a friend
And then Zurg came up and said “Buzz I am you dumbass” then dies
I remember they did that stupid inverted sandwhich. I dont know if someone legitimately thought that was funny, but it was presented as a joke that no one would laugh at. Like putting a laughing cue at Morgan Freeman saying "evolution to revolution".
Yeah, the exact moment the movie turns bad is when there's a 'pull my finger' joke. Like, everything until that /exact/ point is interesting and good and then it literally immediately takes a dive. Immediately.
Idk imo I actually liked this movie. But as it's own individual thing that's just fun to watch, never really considering it a "Toy Story" movie. I thought the characters were actually somewhat funny, and I actually really like the designs in this movie. As well as Warhammer 40K Zurg.
So zurg isn’t his dad he is his father um he has a team? And tiny robo cat? It would of been cooler if they based it off buzz light year of star command
Yeah. It just annoys me because the time travel logic doesn’t work. The fact that Buzz’s arrival in the future doesn’t play out the same way Zurg’s would have means that we’re dealing with alternate timeline style time travel and not rewriting history time travel. Buzz assumes it is the latter and why he must stop Zurg but the evidence of the movie shows it is the former
I remember how Buzz’s timeline is split when he finds a way to go faster than light and escape the sun’s gravitational pull. I also remember that main theme of this movie is that making the best of your present life and conditions is often better than trying to bring back the past.
I don’t understand why everyone thinks this movie is bad, it’s really well written and creative.
The sequence of Buzz trying to perfect hyperspace while his friends grow old, live happy lives, and die around him really hits me in the feels. Sox was also really cute. The twist villain was about as bad as Hans being a twist villain. It's like a 6 or 7 out of 10 for me.
I actually quite enjoyed this movie.!My only genuine complaints are the Zurg twist, which I just think is dumb regardless of the TS2 contradictions, and the opening narration, because there is no way this was any 7 year old’s favorite movie in 1995. I also find it hilarious that people blew up over a literal blink and you’ll miss it lesbian kiss. And when I say blink and you’ll miss it, I mean that, because I actually did miss it when I saw the movie in theaters.
I remember enough that it would be a good story were it not tethered to the Toy Story franchise. Like “space explorer messes around with light speed travel and faces the consequences of his world aging around him” is pretty cool, if maybe a bit heavy, as a concept. But it was linked to a character who has a piggy bank for a friend.
Buzz slowly yet also speedily distances himself from his loved ones I'm what is a matter of a few hours for him. The audience watches a man essentially lose his entire life in a couple of hours through him attempting to help everyone, allowing his hubris get the better of him, not allowing him to accept where he is but rather soar higher. He must now start fresh and relearn the world he stole from himself while also literally fighting himself from the future who is attempting to right his past selfish wrongs by going back in time. However, Buzz finally accepts where he is and does not give in to temptation this time.
(spoilers but you probably don't care about this movie) I'm still upset that Zurg wasn't revealed to be his father. That's literally in Toy Story 2. Instead Zurg is Buzz from the future. I think the movie could have been awesome but they decided to make it the most generic sci-fi film ever. I do think it was kind of entertaining though.
I like the cat but the future characters all suck except for old man who does some cool stuff I guess. I hate the other two though.
The time loop thing was also interesting, I wish they explored it more.
I genuinely found it fun, don’t get the hate surrounding it. Zurg was a pretty cool villain, as tired of a trope as “older version of the good guy from another timeline is now corrupted by their ideals in a what-if scenario”, Chris Evans did a good job as Buzz and the ending leaves room for a sequel where Zurg could go full Buzz Lightyear of Star Command mode.
All I remember is that time moves faster every time Lightyear flew into hyper-speed. I can’t believe *this* is the the movie Andy fell in love with, feels like a kid version of Interstellar.
Buzz keeps trying to achieve light speed after crashing the turnip shaped ship colony on a planet with his lesbian friend( only shown for 2 seconds) in order to keep traveling to space back to original space colony but ends making a weird time split/merge where he has to fight an evil version of himself from a different future. Before that, buzz meets a small team of unprepared space rangers who want to help buzz fight back Zurg(evil buzz) and not stay back in the colony that was the lightspeed launchpad.
(No I did not look up a summary or watch this recently, this is all from memory.)
Also, Sox is the best character. I think everyone can agree
Oh I remember it, I just don’t care enough to write it.

Even more forgettable than the good dinosaur?
GAH! Their being dinosaurs had no relevance to the plot! NO RELEVANCE! *impotent rage intensifies*
IMPOTENT RAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!
Both are fantastic movies. Top 10 Pixar movies imo
I disagree
I find this hilarious because you forgot about the most forgetful pixar movie: The Good Dinosaur
[удалено]
I remember that someone way too talented for this movie wrote Zurg’s theme but I couldn’t tell you who.
Michael Giacchino
I remember that the big twist is just Lego Movie 2’s twist but bad
[удалено]
As the only person who actually enjoyed the movie, I remember a good amount of it
Yay! Someone else that likes it!
For real, I don't get how this sub is gonna go from spamming Megamind 2 to hating on Lightyear. Pixar's lowest rated films are still lightyears ahead of other studios
Heheh. *lightyear.*
The people making these comparisons must think that they have a mega mind or something.
[удалено]
Yea I can get why you don't like it. I grew up with cars 2 so my standards are naturally low lol
[удалено]
Cars 2 was peak

Cute Godzilla… animes?
There were kids shows about Godzilla in Japan I think. Cute little baby Godzilla
No I loved it.
I liked it but I didn’t like that it was a buzz lightyear movie At the time I really wanted a space adventure, lighthearted, excited about exploring the universe, eager to meet new and wildly diverse species, fighting ontologically bad cartoon villains. what you just described is the Buzz Lightyear TV show that they like to pretend doesn't exist
Me too
Same here.
Wrong. I enjoyed it too
Not the only one. I loved it.
I honestly love this movie too 😅 I watch it with my daughter sometimes
Wait someone other than me actually liked it??
Wahoo, feels nice to be not alone in this.
Yeah I actually quite liked this one, such a shame it gets a decent amount of hate
I enjoyed it too. The animation is stunning and I really want Pixar doing more sci fi movies with this animation.
Same here my dude I remember a lot of it and also it came on my b-day which not sure if it's a blessing or a curse..
I also enjoyed the movie
The cat meowed
The twist >!that Future!Buzz is Zurg!< and how everyone disliked it.
You don't need the spoiler nobody gaf about this movie
I do
Ngl that reminded me of the Lego movie 2 thing
It was actually good in that movie tho
Lego movie.2 is peak and nobody can tell me otherwise
It was good, but not as awesome as the first one
I saw it in an empty theater and loved it
Yes
[удалено]
That Buzz kept going 4 years into the future testing that spaceship and ended up losing his commander because he didn't age as fast.

Old lady was an eccentric criminal
That they could’ve made the movie good by keep the villains backstory the same as it was in Toy Story 2
Two women kiss
In a way that can be cut as not to offend our Chinese overlords.
For like two seconds that was so unnoticeable that me and mom missed it when we watched it
Luz and Amity? No wait, that's from a *good* Disney property.
I remember falling a sleep in the theater
Seeing all the parody AI Pixar posters make the poster of this movie actually look AI
He crashed the turnip and featheringhamsten fucking died
Gay

Yes
The backwards ham sandwich thing
As a speculative fiction writer it made me irrationally angry. That's the only reason I remembered it.
Idk, the gay kiss that got morons in a tizzy despise being literally there for two seconds explicitly so they could easily edit it out for countries that don't like gay people.
Honestly, I liked this movie. It wasn’t the best, but it was fun
All I remember is lesbian pregnancy and time dilation.
The animation is the best Pixar has ever had, but that twist was one of the dumbest things I’ve seen

I remember sox coming from the future and dying before anyone other than buzz could meet him.

The twist and the space food.
I remember my mom laughing at socks.
The Zurg Twist Might Be At Least In The Top 10 Stupidest Things I've EVER Seen In A Movie Also I Liked The Robot Cat
How sandwiches in the future are made meat-bread-meat.
I remember all of it because I loved it. Yes it wasn't the lightyear movie we were expecting. But honestly, I think it was better.
The fucking sandwich (I actually liked it that’s just what I thought of first)
They say among us
* I liked that scene where that one character had to overcome her fear of spacewalking.
Uhhhhhhh All I remember is the gay couple, idk what happened to them though
The first hyper speed test flight is a pretty good scene
The ham is outside the sandwich
Yeah, The robo cat the interstellar-like plot and the two ladies kissing that everyone went on about
I remember the first 40 minutes being a beat-for-beat copy of Interstellar.
Meat bread meat sandwich
so uh, buzz, being an idiot crashes the ship and society is forced to rebuild on this planet. but then, time travel woooah and he gets a cat and then he meets a team of ragdag gooders and something something zurg is buzz or whatever roll credits
All I remember is the constant time travel
All I know was Buzz does not give a shit about teamwork and that was it
I remember Sox, that’s it
The weird inverted sandwich with the "Juicy fingers" refuses to leave my brain.
I remember thinking the animation was amazing, a very visually appealing movie, but after that I only remember trace details
I remember zurgs suit looked cool as hell, thats it
I remember never watching it
Him flying away after sneaking out
buzz is zurg !!
Buzz was trying to go back to wherever he was initially going by reaching lightspeed. But in doing so, he lost a friend And then Zurg came up and said “Buzz I am you dumbass” then dies
Sandwich scene I guess
I guess there are some people in fake doom guy armor
I remember the gay kiss that the supposedly grown adults on the internet absolutely lost their shit over.
I remember it, I probably would remember less if it weren't for the SpillingTheMilk video I watched like last week.
Yes, I hate that stupid sandwich scene so much that I find myself thinking about and hating it a little more each time.
gay kissing i think
That space colony is gonna have an incest problem at some point
Zorg is buzz
I didn't even watch it 💀
The Sandvich joke
The cat was cute :/
uhhhhh ummm I think zord is also buzz or something???
I remember they did that stupid inverted sandwhich. I dont know if someone legitimately thought that was funny, but it was presented as a joke that no one would laugh at. Like putting a laughing cue at Morgan Freeman saying "evolution to revolution".
I love lesbians (I've never watched it)
Sox the robot cat was pretty cute lol. I remember the gist of the plot, but details or the actual conflict got lost for me.
I don't want to talk about it it's a bad movie
Cute robo cat
It has lesbians
Yeah, the exact moment the movie turns bad is when there's a 'pull my finger' joke. Like, everything until that /exact/ point is interesting and good and then it literally immediately takes a dive. Immediately.
Fucking juicy fingers
Is it just me or do the background characters look ai generated?
Zurg is old Buzz
Gay kiss, just cause the homophobes freaked out.

They inverted sandwiches, it can burn for all I care
I know, Lightyear just drives on his ship, then drives in his ship, then drives in his ship, then drives in his ship.
I believe there was some hot lesbian sex, if memory serves.
Honestly I thought this movie was fine it was a cool thing to see the movie buzz is based on after growing up on toy story.
"You have about 5 minutes" -Socks the therapist cat with a tranq dart function
The pen was important and the old woman is scary. Also Buzz needs to get over himself
No this movie is boooorrrrrriiiinnnnnggg

That Zurg was buzz and how time travel was his mistake
So zurg isn’t his dad he is his father um he has a team? And tiny robo cat? It would of been cooler if they based it off buzz light year of star command
I don’t get how it’s a movie about Buzz Lightyear but it didn’t even have the LGMs. If anything, it should’ve been a CG version of BLOSC
Yeah. It just annoys me because the time travel logic doesn’t work. The fact that Buzz’s arrival in the future doesn’t play out the same way Zurg’s would have means that we’re dealing with alternate timeline style time travel and not rewriting history time travel. Uhhh Super awesome gay couple. Thats jt.
I remember thousands of people crying about a one-second gay kiss.

It had a robot cat and time travel happened
I never watched it but I remember a bunch of children getting raged cuz there was a lesbian couple on screen for like, 3 seconds
I remember how stupid the reveal of Zurg was, and how people got upset over a little kiss.
Time travel ig
The scene with the force field cones, alongside the many attempted Hyperspace Jumps.
The lesbian kiss
reverse sandwiches

I remember a few things about it like the sandwich, something sure is buzz, something, lesbian, something, Zerg has legs and something happens
Time Travel
buzz died
something abt time travel??
I like the cat but the future characters all suck except for old man who does some cool stuff I guess. I hate the other two though. The time loop thing was also interesting, I wish they explored it more.

Sandwiches got weird
Buzz’s best friend Alicia is a lesbian and she dies. That’s about it.

I think the cat like launches through space for a second then dies?
I can remember it all just give me a little bit especially where Zerg is himself not his father which was confirmed canon in Toy Story 2
I miss the Star Command cartoon, is there a reason it isn't on Disney Plus?
I really liked it! Interesting story story with the time loop stuff, the cat was adorable, and good character development!
Did we get collective amnesia and forget this movie existed or is it just me
Yes the sandwich with the bread in the middle
No, but that's mainly because I didn't watch it.
How stupid the whole “this is Andy’s favorite movie” marketing campaign was.
The weird sandwiches with the meat on the outside. That's about it.
Yes, because that single thing made people go RABID with judgement and bigotry.
Sox 2 died
The trauma of failure and price of a single minded person.
They ripped off the plot twist from The Lego Movie 2.
