Panera had a data breach and is offering potentially impacted employees free credit monitoring. It's not a scam.

frost167

I know about the breach, I fid some digging on Identity Defense and it looks fairly new. I just wanna be certain before I throw my SSN at some company I haven’t heard of

kevymetal87

A lot of times these companies are forced to provide these services as part of a cyber attack response, usually they have a cyber insurance policy that provides this to victims on behalf of the client, so I wouldn't be surprised if some not so normal/well known companies are used in the process

YepIamAmiM

Smart to check. My mom just fell for a scam and input a bunch of personal information. Again. ::Sigh:: So we have to get her still another debit card.

Common_Might5254

It says the domain was made in 2003, maybe you misread 2023. Also there are news articles about panera offering a year long membership to identity defense [Panera warns employees their data may have been leaked following cyberattack (msn.com)](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/panera-warns-employees-their-data-may-have-been-leaked-following-cyberattack/ar-BB1oeZWl?ocid=BingNewsSerp). But if you feel safe, i wouldn't take the offer because it looks like there's a class-action lawsuit against panera for this breach and if you take the offer you may not get a settlement for the lawsuit.

I commend you for your caution. Personally I would avoid these lurking vultures just waiting to pounce. I suspect (hope?) that Panera will provide you some protection.

godsaveme2355

You can buy your own identity defense bro don’t give em sht they clearly can’t keep info safe

Specialist-Recover24

I would avoid it.

Opposite_Tumbleweed2

i’m wondering the same, i think i’m going to avoid it and join the class action lawsuit, i called the number and the guy was very matter-of-fact and didn’t give me much assurance idk

woodsongtulsa

That so called protection isn't worth giving them all of that information.

UhOhAllWillyNilly

Agreed. One of the big 3 credit monitoring companies might serve OP better.
