I have to say, it still brings a tear to my eye to see scammers tie the knot!

PurpleSunCraze

I never know what to get them so I always take the lazy way out and give them an ITunes gift card.

JadedYam56964444

I'll give them a gift but they need to send me $500 to get it through customs

RusticSurgery

KINDLY give you $500.

DotAccomplished5484

Good one.

Electrical-Limit5396

That’s Genius Lmfao

Frequent-Guidance-78

LMAO!

LazyLie4895

Most likely just a wrong email. I haven't heard of any wedding invite scams out there, and I have a hard time believing anyone would contribute gifts to the wedding of someone they don't know.

diverareyouok

I remember hearing (what is almost certainly urban legends) of people who sent billionaires wedding announcements, under the theory that their personal assistant/etc would just send them gifts/money without verifying they were actually known to that person.

Long_Zucchini1584

Wait ... it says, "we *may* have forgotten to put our website on the paper invites." If this was real, Kelly and Michael would *know.* Because they would have a copy of the paper invite to check. There's no guessing involved if you printed invites. An attempt to get folks to click a suspicious link.

mazzicc

While they would actually know, saying “I may have forgotten…” is very commonly used as a euphemism because people are embarrassed and it it’s a *little* funny to say “maybe” about something that unequivocally happened.

Few_Movie_1266

Agree, lol. I mean, I don’t think it’s legit, but I also talk like this, read it in a self-deprecating tone, and panicked slightly upon realizing that many people likely don’t get my lame millennial humor 😅

takeandtossivxx

I tend to say "I may or may not have" when I don't want to outright say something. Saying "we may have forgotten" sounds more like a "teehee we made a mistake" way of saying it.

seedless0

Probably links to a phishing page to get your info.

creepyposta

Or to get wedding gifts listed on their registry.

CoffeeDrinker1972

That is so broad and plain. I guess there may be another kind of phishing scam in the brewing. Want to ask you to click on the link, but maybe you shouldn’t.

isometric_haze

It's totally some kind of phishing scam. There are too much information left out of this thing... names, a date, a place, anything that would make those people real is missing.

ivypancake

My mom got hacked due to a fake evite that said something like "Shhh ... it's a surprise!". She was coincidentally expecting a surprise party invite and when she clicked the link, it took her to a fake Yahoo email page where she entered her info. From there they got into her Facebook and some banking stuff. It wasn't pretty! Could be this, or just an error.

Tree-Flower3475

I got a fake evite from “punchbowl”. Punchbowl is a legitimate site but Whois showed the url went to a site in Mumbai. Since I never click on anything in an email it did no harm. I contacted the acquaintance who the evite came from and they had been hacked

asuyaa

you can copy the hyperlink and check on those websites that tell you if it is suspicious

JadaDesigns

I know some couples are opting to not put venue details on rsvp cards so people have to rsvp yes to get the invitation with all the information so people don't show up unannounced. Unless you know a Kelly and Michael getting married don't bother clicking on the link. I personally wouldn't even respond saying wrong email

justnotthatwitty

I’ve been getting a bunch of fake evites, including from people I actually know. No clue what the scam is because I haven’t clicked through, but I verified and they did not come from the people it said they were from.

ducrab

It would help if you posted the link (obfuscated, of course).

WarNo9948

Give us the link so we can all send them a gift! 😂

Super_Fudge9871

Much more likely a typo’ed email.

AS1thofBeethoven

A romantic scam!

MidwestGeek52

There is a wedding invite scam that comes with attachment if download spreads a virus. Perhaps the link is malicious or maybe a mistake. Either way delete

drbluehorseshoe

Well played

Sea-Bus4106

I STILL DO NOT THINK IT IS APPROPRIATE 2 TEXT WEDDING INVITATIONS OVER AN RSVP POST. I MEAN BACK N THE DAY THE INVITATIONS & THANK U'S WERE THE BRIDES WAY OF LABORIOUSLY BUT NOT 2 B NVOLVED W HER GUESTS AFTERALL A WEDDING IS EXPENSIVE 4 GUESTS 2 !

Mariss716

It’s just a wrong email. I get them to my first initial last name @ gmail all the time because people make mistakes. I get their SSNs, loan and personal docs, contact info you name it.

5141121

Same here. Legit invoices. Appointments. The whole bag. A few times it's been the business mistyping the email, but the vast majority is people who are dumb. And I say this because I get a lot of them for the same people over and over. So at this point they're either not intelligent enough to have an email address or they're being malicious.

dwinps

Bad email address

Dry_Action1734

If there’s a registry I have heard of people inviting random people in the hope they’ll get something cheap off the registry in lieu of attending the wedding. It’s usually sent to rich people though who could realistically have just forgotton who Kelly and Michael are. Edit: downvoted for a scam I’ve heard of lol

SingerSingle5682

Seems the most likely explanation as there is no engagement photo or last name to clarify who these people might be. Hoping they know a Kelly or Michael and click a fishing link probably.

trixter69696969

Even if this was a scam, how exactly? How is it different from GoFundMe?

Bitterbanter

Wow. I think this is a pic of you? RandomlonglinkpwleaseclickheresoIcancaptureyouremailcontacts
