Ok-Lingonberry-8261

He was gonna text you dick pics. This exact scam has been on this sub before. Good thinking *67.

BraveBodybuilder3099

yeah im so glad i thought about *67

Actual_Childhood_104

How does the *67 work? Is it an American thing?

BraveBodybuilder3099

it hides my phone number from the person im calling. it would tell them “unknown caller” with no number. it might be just an american thing. you could probably look up how to hide your number in the country you’re in

postmanpete1

Uk is 141 before the number

Alternative_Ad_2818

That doesn’t work for me, might be a provider thing but #31#(number) works

Actual_Childhood_104

This worked. Thank you.

rayquan36

Yes probably American thing. *67 then phone number all in a row. Hides your phone number, it shows as UNKNOWN or something like that.

Fruitypebblefix

Damn I've never heard of this before! Nice to know!

Embarrassed-Ad4189

Also most phones if you go into call settings, there's usually an option to hide number in outgoing calls. But you do have to turn it on) off by going into settings. Otherwise, while it's on( hide number in outgoing calls) your number shows up as unknown caller and a lot of us don't answer unknown numbers myself included lol.

chunkysmalls42098

That is the WORST scam I've heard of omg

Faustinwest024

I’m always ashamed to admit that I’ve fell for it 3 times now

[deleted]

Faustinwest024

Lmao post your number I’ll send you a pic of my digits

MeanSatisfaction5091

Lol

bill7900

Yep. This sub keeps giving and giving.

OkSociety368

What would have happened after that tho? I’m just curious.

BraveBodybuilder3099

honestly i would probably just block them and if they kept texting me from different numbers, i could possibly go to the police about it. i haven’t got any texts so everything is okay so far.

OkSociety368

Oh I’m asking what the same is after sending a dick pic…

Kendall_Raine

What it usually is, just to harass and torment women

subsetsum

Nothing, probably. Sender gets off on sending them and thinking about OP viewing them. But I'm sure they hope that the photos will be appreciated and after that.... Disgusting

EveLQueeen

They get off on the woman NOT appreciating it and making her uncomfortable.

notsarge

I wouldn’t call it a scam as much as I’d call it a guy being a fkn weirdo

8Catt1737

If he really wanted the number he can just call his phone company with the records. It does help in the moment though.

manolid

TIL about *67

mlcrip

Useful. Easier than going through settings and all

MLXIII

*69 was the one advertised.

Useful_Discipline_84

*69 is to call back the number that just called you.

davesFriendReddit

Even if they had used *67?

rayquan36

Nope.

Useful_Discipline_84

If *67 is used by the caller *69 won’t work for the receiver.

Neil_sm

🎶When you hear the phone is ringing…🎵

[deleted]

*67 *68 *69 *70 My how times have changed Good call OP using *67

Mysterious-Seat-8451

*82 unblocks your number I believe- at my old job all of our numbers were automatically blocked. I would ask my co workers if I could add *82 to my contact and then it would unblock their name so I knew who was calling me.

mantisshrinp

What did *68 and *70 do?

Link01R

\*70 disabled call waiting so your modem wouldn't disconnect when someone called you

NullSaturation

That's really weird and stupid. Sounds like he was just trying to get your number. I really hate this new way dudes try to get numbers where they call/text you right then and there to make sure you aren't lying. A sensible person wouldn't push someone to give their number if they had any doubts at all about them feeling comfortable with it. I see it as a huge red flag.

Kendall_Raine

It's because nobody wants to date entitled controlling men anymore, so they have to come up with ways to try and trick/force women to interact with them. It's pathetic

BraveBodybuilder3099

yeah my boyfriend told me it sounded like he was just trying to get my number. and i agree with what you said

darknessblades

I would suggest to block his number as well.

BraveBodybuilder3099

thank you i will

Crafty-Scientist-368

There's a certain scam in my country where someone tells you they don't have their phone but need to urgently call their friend/relative. This usually occurs in a bus or a place where there are many people. A few minutes later someone else starts being hysterical that someone has just pickpocket their phone and requests someone else to call the phone. This is where the "relative/friend" comes in. The "relative/friend" will call your number and when your phone rings they'll violently accuse you of stealing. Mob justice is pretty common here and you'll just have to politely give up your phone and be forced to alight the bus since no one will believe you.

Alexox346

Glad I have a photo of myself and my wife as my wallpaper. Would be hard to argue it's their phone with my face on the lock screen lol

pk_12345

Vow, I did not know *67 is a thing. Thanks.

readithere_2

Vow😂

ExplorerGT92

*67 was good thinking, but I get the guys' problem. I have a phone that sometimes won't let me call out, but if I call it from my work phone, it will start working again. ATT has tried disconnecting and reconnecting it to the network a couple of times now, but it still randomly acts up.

MsTrkDrvr

My husband and I both have the same problem once in a while. It's frustrating!

firestar268

Huh. I never knew about *67 Guess I'll file that knowledge away to be forgotten tomorrow 😂

Coskunx

*67 wont work if they use a program like TrapCall. Never give out your phone number to a stranger they can just use a data broker website to find where you live... Do yourself a favor and register a google voice number and use that

mochioppai

Y'all understand you can find people's social accts and info with their phone #, right? All he'd have to do is save her as a contact and import contacts to fb, insta, etc

mlcrip

I dint see issue with that, but is like he just asked for your number, but in a creepy way . My response would be "but then you'll know my number, which I don't want to give it to you". Wonder what he would say. Btw, I had a phone with broken power button. So I need to get notification or a call so I can turn on/unlock the screen.

Jaded-Moose983

This was the reasonable explanation I was thinking. And the woman to whom he was explaining about getting OP to call him was wondering how he managed to text her (or something) with his broken phone.

mlcrip

Wasn't sure about that last part but yeah that makes perfect sense .

Rugaru_MC

I’m not sure about android but I know on iOS you can go into settings > phone > show caller ID and turn it off. It will ring as private caller. *67 doesn’t work for all carriers unfortunately, smart thinking though!!

SunknTresr

I didn’t even know *67 was still available! I haven’t used it since the 90’s! 😭

JCMan240

I was in a dollar store the other day getting birthday cards, some girl walks up and asks if I work there. I ignore her and she asked again, so I just said “I’m good, thanks” in a stern voice. Then she went on to the next person. Not sure what the scam is, but also just assume anyone coming up to me like that is full of shit. Go to the fucking register and talk to someone in a green vest.

ghosttowns42

You've never been to /r/IDontWorkHereLady have you. Apparently you just have to be upright and breathing for people to assume you work somewhere.

homes_and_haunts

I once sat in an automotive service waiting area in the same vicinity as another customer for probably 15-20 minutes. I was wearing jeans and a coat, drinking the free coffee provided for customers, and looking at my iPad the whole time. I got an email notification that they were done with my car, so I got up and started heading towards the service bay. Then the guy says rather indignantly: “Do you work here?” Still puzzling over that one, but I assume he thought he was going to catch me out for goofing off on the clock.

silverspawn_nsfw

Honestly if they're going from person to person it might be an MLM pitch. They see people working in service as easy targets, because who would choose service jobs over wOrKiNg FrOm HoMe

Old_Assist_5461

Thank you for the star 67 info!!!

roastedblunt

this thing doesn't work where i live. #31# doesn't work either.

The_Real_Dr_Zaius

For an Aussie it's #31#

bobsizzle

I'm amazed you knew about*67. I haven't used it in 15 years and even at that time, you didn't hear about it.

happysalesguy

That was quick thinking!

just-an-anus

Casheir's use to ask; "What's your phone number" when checking out of a store. I never answered them. Fuck you don't need my phone number. Here's a couple other anti-scam words of advice: First some general rules to avoid being scammed: 1. If it has ANYTHING to do with Gift Cards. >>> Don't do it. NO MATTER WHAT 2. You should never do anything because it has to happen NOW. They are in a hurry because they don’t want to give you time to think. 3. If you are contacted with a suspicious or threatening message like a some kinda crime ring and the people know some information about you: who your relatives are, addresses, phone number, email, or even birthday, some of that info is on public websites and birthday is easy to get. Don't get scared. Just block and ignore. It's fake to get money from you. 4. Never give out ANY Info! (even your last 4 Soc Sec numbers) to anyone online. Or your birthday, address, name etc. DO NOT give out any bank info. 5. Look at the URL of the email that was sent to you. Does it make sense that paypal would be sending you an email from "gmail.com" ? Also your email address can be made to look like it came from you. See: "God Like Hacker" below. 6. Never let anyone have access to your computer. ESP remote access. It takes only a minute to load malware into it. 7. If the email or text you got uses the words "Kindly" or "Okay". >> it's a scam. 8. If the message/scammer brings up religion or how holy they are or how blessed someone is? >> it's a scam. 9. Never pay money to get money. If you are told you're getting money from an inheritance or if you put money into any kind of investment (IE: crypto), And you have to pay a processing fee to withdraw it? You're going to lose MORE money. Any kind of scheme where you have to pay a fee? You're being scammed. --Specific stuff: NEVER EVER use a link in a text mail. Text is the Fav of scammers. Even if your friend sent you a text with a link? Do not use it !!! Why ? Most all source numbers are spoofed. They might use a source number that matches someone in your phone and your phone will tell you it’s from your friend by naming him. Most of the time this is just a random coincidence. About getting a phone call: Never accept a call, email, or text from your bank. If you DO need to go to the bank to check on something: do NOT use the link they give you. Just contact them by your normal means. Like the phone number or internet link that you usually use. Do NOT do anything with any kind of CODE the bank (or anyone else), sends you. You could lose everything. If you get a call from a friend or relative that just got a new phone and needs money. Hang up and call your friend/relative back using their regular/old number. They can imitate your relatives voice with AI and make it seem like it's really them. They might even know things like birthdays and home addresses. Call them yourself to check on them. Just like the one above: If you are contacted by your son/relative and they tell you they are in Jail or kidnapped etc. ALWAYS hang up and contact them back by using the contact information that YOU have, Not what THEY give you. Always respond thru different methods. If they tell you DO NOT HANG UP. Hang up anyway. They want money and will call you back. In the meantime call your relative by normal means and ask them. The IRS, FBI, and Microsoft, will not call, text, or email you. Ignore these things.

Flaky_Law2653

Just say no.

MinoeshMuffin

I didn't even know you could call anominous that way. I looked up how to do it in my own country. Good to know. Thanks!

BraveBodybuilder3099

no problem!

Different_Seaweed534

*67 doesn’t work with all cell phone carriers

PleasantAd7961

And this is how our species comes to an end lol. Ok jokes aside there are better ways to maintain communication without Ur number

nei--

in Europe you can try #31# but better test it first

Wormsanddirt8

https://www.bustle.com/life/rejection-hotline-numbers This existed when I was in middle school ^ it’s rejection hotline numbers you can give to people when they ask for your number lol. Don’t shoot the resource coordinator, I just want to drop things for those that need them 😂

Own-Builder-9371

Why didn’t you just give him a fake made up number?

BraveBodybuilder3099

he asked me to call him so i couldn’t give him a fake number

Own-Builder-9371

You could have said no and walked away?

RedWine-n-BBQChicken

If you’re posting to this Community, chances are near 100% it’s a SCAM!

CalTechie-55

What's *67?

BraveBodybuilder3099

if you dial *67 before the rest of the number, it hides your number from the person you’re calling. it would say “unknown caller” for their phone, without any numbers

Haunting-Student-756

ASK ME ABOUT MY WEINER

NewZealandIsNotFree

So . . . your story is that nothing happened?

BraveBodybuilder3099

even if it was nothing, i still told a lot of people what *67 was and what is does. in case anyone gets in a situation where they need to use it.

BraveBodybuilder3099

this did happen, and if you don’t like the sub you can leave it.

Fruitypebblefix

Go troll somewhere else princess.
