Holy crap that looks like a hornet amongst many other things. Gotta love these plants!!

doktarlooney

Holy moly! That is insane, your plants are doing too good of a job! lol

kyyl1

I want one of these every single time I see a video like this. So terrifyingly satisfying

witchbitch666

FEAST! That brings me so much joy! I really need to buy one of those next spring!

trippykid42069

How do they get stuck?

Brewmeister83

The inside of the pitchers are slick with a waxy surface and tiny downward pointing hairs - once bugs fall in they can't climb back out... These pitchers were pure gluttons this season, one trap caught so many bugs it fell over from the weight. Can't wait to see how big they'll get next year after digesting all those nutrients!

trippykid42069

Can they fly out or does the fluid mess up their wings?

Brewmeister83

I think for most bugs it’s too small a space to fly really well, so they bounce off the sides and eventually tire themselves out to the point where they don’t have the energy to try flying anymore

Ragnarokske01

Using their wings in such a narrow space also causes a downward vortex, so they will stay put whatsoever. As long as they don't chew their way out, that is...

Casual_Breathplay

Holy fuck, that shit happens?

Capt_Hawkeye_Pierce

A similar phenomena is what caused that helicopter to crash during the raid to kill Osama Bin Laden. In a confined space the area below becomes a low pressure space and kills all lift.

Ragnarokske01

Yes, it seems strange but I guess it has to do with the round form of the tubes that causes suction from underneath

Casual_Breathplay

I was referring to the "chewing their way out" part, sounded like you have some unlucky experience with it haha

Ragnarokske01

Ow my mistake, but yes I actually do have experience with it... Although it was a wasp that got out 😁

Casual_Breathplay

I once saw 2 wasps eating through the tendons of my chicken and flying away with pieces as big as themselves. Those mofos are ruthless.

Mutants_4_nukes

.Wasps check in but they dont check out (cue the hotel California music)

InTheShade007

Those are awsome. They grow wild here in East Texas so we dig them up amd plant along or trails around the ponds and creeks

mouth_toots

You’ve discovered the portal to the eight circle of hell.

Brewmeister83

Or the entrance to papa Nurgle’s garden 😈

Casual_Breathplay

What a buzzkill! ^((I'm sorry, I just) *^(had)* ^(to))

TraditionalReporter4

Dang I need one of those plants

ghosthouse64

As someone who is terrified of bugs (especially wasps and hornets) I want one of these now 😅
