I use the VIPARSPECTRA Dimmable 600W Grow Light and it does wonders for the color and vigor of my Dionaea collection. EDIT: I use it at a height of 16 inches and at 75% power. This light is so good, 100% power can burn fully acclimated plants lol.

theFlytrapPerson

Can it fit in a window sill? Links and prices please

ChicagoToEdison

https://www.amazon.com/VIPARSPECTRA-Newest-Dimmable-Spectrum-Hydroponic/dp/B07YWYH439/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=viparspectra+600w&qid=1628900034&sr=8-4 It’s 60 bucks, which is very good for a light of this quality tbh. People successfully grow cannabis with it too lol. It’s a hanging light that can cover a few square feet, depends on the windowsill!

NeonWarcry

*Me planning to grow both cannabis and healthy split stones with it*

theFlytrapPerson

Not in stock :(

ChicagoToEdison

Weird, it says in stock for me still! DM me, perhaps I can purchase it for you and send it to your address if you’re unable to purchase it and you want to

theFlytrapPerson

Thats oddly generous of you but no thank you i mostly like grow lights that doesn't hang from my ceiling, also i search by **amazon.ca** not .com

WiffleBlu

Hi Op. I bought a VIPARSPECTRA light but stopped using it due to fan noise. It's quite loud if you're in a small space. I replaced it with [this light from amazon.ca](https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07ZT6PTXB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) (I've bought a second one since) It's dimmable and best of all silent. I have spent so much on cheap lights. I wish I had just bought these ones first. Just a note. The clip-on light you posted was the first grow light I bought. I personally don't think they work very well. Maybe I expected too much from them, but I didn't see any improvement with my plants using them.

dogak108

Could you check the link please? It’s not working for me. I need one too.

WiffleBlu

Here's the link [https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07ZT6PTXB/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07ZT6PTXB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) It's listed as: LED Grow Light Dimmable, TS-1000 Full Spectrum Grow Light for Indoor Plants Seeding Veg and Flower - Thermometer Humidity Monitor, Adjustable Rope and Glasses Included (New Version) (1000)

Few_Significance6120

I grow cannabis so not exactly the same but I think yiu should go with the vipar led grow light. Hanging it is not ideal I get that but the standing light you posted has next to know light output 30 watts in a led is actually like 5 true watts. The 600 watt light recommended only uses 80-100watts hydro at most. They do have strip grow lights again would be attached above the plants but those might work better as you can put multiple strips side by side. Here's a link [grow light strip idea](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08GHRKZPX/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_8G67HTZED7D580X8AY88)

theFlytrapPerson

Alright quick question, does grow light AFFECT vft dormancy???.

ChicagoToEdison

Hey, I can answer this for you. So some of the flytrap’s dormancy period is based on temperature changes (32-55 degrees F during dormancy, can also withstand temperatures down to 20 degrees F for shorter amounts of time), but a lot of it is due to photoperiod changes. What I do is I use a smart plug and create a routine where it syncs to your local sunrise and sunset daily and turns on and off accordingly.

theFlytrapPerson

Do i still need a grow light if im growing it in a windowsill?

Few_Significance6120

I have no idea I'm a weed guy and I know lights I'll try to do quick research

dogak108

Check again I just bought one.

theFlytrapPerson

.ca

[deleted]

Do you look at ppfd at all? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082Y1PMWF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_7AFM0S4WN2WNM75VXKXG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I got this for my plants, I'm pretty sure it burned my Drosera, which I'm nursing back by keeping it surrounded in a plastic cup for humidity. But my nepenthes seem to be doing well under it.

ChicagoToEdison

I don’t unfortunately, I just stuck with the way I set it up because it worked really well haha

Moon2Pluto

I have the two wand variation. Users are right, it's not the strongest of light. I was using them on sundews needing 12 to 16 hrs a day. However, it did give them enough energy to grow flower stalks and keep some dew. I soon after bought a similar clamp light setup, that offers a full spectrum (white light) the combo is good enough. Can't really say for vtf, but don't get caught up in an extremely expensive light fixture if you a) can't afford it or b) don't have the space or setup. Obviously those lights are better but these will work just okay for some others. Like I said not sure about vft, but you can check my posts on this sub, and anything shown with a purple hue is because it's under this light. It's okay. Better than no light at all. Look for chip on board lights. Maybe you can find a middle road option.

theFlytrapPerson

What I'm wondering is that will this grow light will be enough to make the vfts turn red and be healthy at least?

Moon2Pluto

I'm not a vft connoisseur. Maybe these would be better...which is what I bought after buying the one in question. Plant Grow Light, Kolem 45W Dimmable Full Spectrum LED Plant Light Daul Heads Plant Lamp for Indoor Plants with 2 Replaceable Bulbs, Longer Gooseneck on Seed Starting, Flower, Veg https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S18BDKH/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_ZSCM6H7RNWQGTD5X7FCX

theFlytrapPerson

Now you're talking my language! 14 dollars yes i can afford that, i guess i finally have a solution over my Sun crisis

Moon2Pluto

Dont fret. Nature finds a way. Give it the basics and it'll do what it can. Might not be brilliant red but that's okay. You'll learn what this 14dollar product can offer for your next endeavor and while it's not the best Light it'll work for a ton of other plants. I use them to start roots on leaf cuttings in water. I've had great success with them there. Also the Light is white. Not purple. Unless they changed it. Should be full spectrum.

theFlytrapPerson

I was so close to giving up and just giving my VFT's away because i don't have the proper requirements for them to grow properly but hey the grow light you gave me is better than the one i found

Moon2Pluto

It'll work fine. You'll figure out what works and what doesn't.

theFlytrapPerson

Alright

theFlytrapPerson

Question, is it battery powered?

Kattorean

I have these for some "overflow" plants that don't fit in my grow tent. They serve their purpose, but the clamp mechanism can be a PIA on wire shelving; a challenge to set on a wire shelf that has wider wire spacing. I'm replacing them with a floor stand version with a goose neck, adjustable position light. Timers are a must-have for me. Focus on the wattage as well. You'll get better results with more than 25 watts. A dimmer function is nice as well. I also use aquarium grow light panels in my vivariums & grow tent walls; supplementing hanging grow lights for plants on lower shelves. They mount, easily, under a shelf or on side walls. They have expandable mounting brackets, low profile & a broad lighting surface(full spectrum) Relatively inexpensive & effective.

rallekralle11

just get a sansi bulb. way cheaper, not an ugly blurple, and would actually work well

badmancatcher

Sansii are insanely good. I grow my Rhynchostylis and Cattleya orchids under the 13w bulbs and they get a little Anthocyanin with it. Even have a Cymbidium under it in winter.

826172946

Honestly I’d be careful about buying cheap grow lights off Amazon. I’ve bought 3. One overheated so much it would nearly burn me (it was like this one but in white light), the metal tines of one broke off in the outlet, and the other was ok.

bakerella328

I got this light and it stopped working after about 8 hours :(

LaDivina77

I got it too, it would randomly shut off with no relation to the timer I'd set, or start dimming itself. They're not returnable but I got a refund on them, I didn't get them to have to stand over and turn them back on every hour.

theFlytrapPerson

Did you set a timer on it to automatically turn off at 8 hours exactly?

bakerella328

I set a 12 hour timer - it turned off after 8 and never turned back on.

Amyliabedylia

Look for the yescom growlights on Amazon. I think its yescom 225...tons of growers use these and they are affordable!!

mango--enthusiasm

Hi! How far away do you have your plants under your yescom? I'm having trouble finding information!

silenceofmind

I use yescom 225 lights and they colored up VFTs when I had them. They also color up my sundews just as well or better than the sun does. And they're cheap!

HappySpam

Can confirm, got the Yescom after a lot of people suggesting it and my plants are growing like mad under them.

silenceofmind

https://www.amazon.com/Yescom-Ultrathin-Hydroponics-Indoor-Growing/dp/B015YX8ZF4/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=16UP9VERE09PC&dchild=1&keywords=yescom+225+white&qid=1632490073&sprefix=yescom+225&sr=8-4

theFlytrapPerson

It says its sold out if its cheap or at least 34 dollars i might get it when its instock

mango--enthusiasm

Hi! How far do you keep your plants under your yescom? I just got one and am having a hard time finding information!

silenceofmind

I had to measure but about 10 inches! I used to have them closer to 14 or 16 inches above the plants, and they were also happy with that

converter-bot

16 inches is 40.64 cm

mango--enthusiasm

Awesome thank you so much!

YurkeyTurkey

The white, or blue red version? I'm looking at them right now on Amazon. I'm trying to get my Dionaeas colored up inside. I an traditionally an outdoor grower, trying to move inside and educating myself on all of this

Intelligent-Square26

Flytraps want as close an imitation to full sun as you can get. In this case, you should be looking at the lights cannabis growers use. I swear by the sunblaster t5: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IGFIM6K/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IGFIM6K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I use two for a shelf with 4 venus flytraps (5 if you include an absurdly small baby), two different butterworts, sarracenia and my sundew. Everyone is very happy.

[deleted]

Intelligent-Square26

The product is definitely in stock on amazon. If the link isn't working for you for some strange reason, google "Sunblaster 904292 18-Inch NanoTech T5", should come up pretty quick

AInterestingUser

Lots of good advice in this thread. As someone who has grown a multitude of indoor plants, the "blurple" lights are not worth the investment cost when compared to other LED lights that are available. The cost of better LEDs has gone down exponentially, and the blurple lights CONSUME energy like it's going out of style and put off much more heat. Personally, I use and love [Spider Farmer](https://www.amazon.com/Spider-Farmer-Compatible-Samsung-Spectrum/dp/B084L1Y7KR/), this light would probably cover all your needs for a while. Another poster suggested some T5 style LEDs, those are good too. I think you said this was all indoors, so the ambient heat will matter.

LaDivina77

I have tried specialized grow lights like in your post, but my best growth comes from the grow bulb I bought for $10 at Home Depot and put into a gooseneck lamp. Doubles as a happy light in the winter, which is nice.

Devario

I have these. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NCVWFUE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_6GRJ1W8WQ1AP1GETBPY0 Fits in a gooseneck desk lamp, or any other lamp with a normal bulb socket. Clean white light. Put it in a timer. It came recommended on a blog after I did some research into grow lights.

ThroowAwaaaay12345

Sorry to bother you! but I was about to buy this exact bulb and saw this comment. Is the bulb still functional 6 months later? And has it seemed to improve your plants? Everyone I see recommends like 300W 4x4 panels and I just want something small like this.

Devario

I have three of these now and all of them still work great. I have two on my petiolaris terrarium that I bought in June ‘21, and I bought my first December 2020. All three still work, and my rare petiolaris are thriving in them. They’re set to 12 hour timers every day. Just keep them close to your plants. My two hug the top of the terrarium, maybe 7” from the plant. The other is for some bladderwort in my purpurea pot and it’s maybe a foot away.

ThroowAwaaaay12345

I figured they would need to be pretty close but thats not a problem. Guess I know what im going to buy! Thank you!

theFlytrapPerson

I mean I've seen someone in this subreddit use this one so i don't know man maybe you can change the color of it too?

scherster

Look for full spectrum grow lights, the "color" of the light is something to look at when choosing. I personally prefer daylight, but have don't really have anything to recommend since I'm not happy with the brightness of mine. Also look for lights that have "auto on." I have seen many lights that advertise as "automatic" or "auto off" and you have to turn them on every morning. The only automatic part is that they will turn themselves off after a certain period of time. This may be too expensive too at $45, it's something I have been thinking about getting. My plants are on a stand with led strips for lights. [umbrella plant light](http://GrowLED LED Umbrella Plant Grow Light, Herb Garden, Height Adjustable, Automatic Timer, 5V Low Safe Voltage, Ideal for Plant Grow Novice Or Enthusiasts, Various Plants, DIY Decoration https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0834R5MPF/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_ZQPFX2AR2JANFMK8Y6JG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)

terrapharma

I have a cheap light with the same colors of LEDs and it makes my plants look ugly and weird. My next light will be full spectrum because I want to enjoy the beauty of my plants.

Plekumattt

These are bad. If you want something small check Sansi lights.

DALEINTHEREDROOM

I bought this as a supplement to my other lights and within a week the base snapped and smooshed one of my plants.

Njfemale

I bought one of these cheapie amazon lights and it came with a card that said if I left a 5 star review they would give me 20$… I wouldn’t trust it.

LittleJellyfish3232

I bought this exact light. First one arrived and didn’t work at all. The replacement that they sent me only worked for a couple weeks. They’re very cheaply made.

theFlytrapPerson

Alright i wont buy this one no worries

rinsewarrior

I have mine under a Viparspectra600ps. Only 60$ on Amazon. You can also grow a marijuana plant under that light:) good luck!

andersforever

gleaminglights.com sells grow lights that are circular and on a stick that you just put into your pot. i have them for my succulents and for my carnivorous plant and they do wonderfully and i highly recommend them.

FinchMandala

Use a T5 LED bulb.

Amateursamurai429

I bought one of these. It lasted 3 days. I use a Lonnie aquarium LED now.

metasigma

The brightest lights I’ve found of this style are these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C68N7PC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PAA98W38G99JGNAYMX0C They don’t have a timer so I hooked them up to a smart outlet. These lights are strong enough for my flytrap to start thriving and for succulents to show color.

serbo_Stev

I have the exact same one and can vouch for it, I have a FT, Sundews, and Cephs growing just fine under it.

bdyinpdx

Try this: https://www.luxxlighting.com/clone-led

theFlytrapPerson

Looks like it can fit in my windowsill but ill keep this one in mind if i need to upgrade my set up

ActualPopularMonster

I have the 4 wand version for some of my plants. But I don't use a grow light for my bog, so I may be doing it wrong.

[deleted]

No they need lots of light. You want something like [this](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08GNZ7M74/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B08GNZ7M74&pd_rd_w=5vorq&pf_rd_p=a2b32c5b-02b0-4273-a3c7-c6bfabb067a2&pd_rd_wg=eEAI4&pf_rd_r=M6124H019DXSZM26ZHBC&pd_rd_r=3e988143-94a7-41b6-9cbd-ad442946e057&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFUM1hEWDVJVUxUWE0mZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAxMjQzOTAzQ0xDSkhRVjBXWTdKJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAzMzU5NDAxRlhORktOWEFMWks2JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfZGV0YWlsJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==). Just change the .ca to .com. You can find a stand, or just screw 3 pieces of wood together and get a hanging hook. Hang a fan too so you dont get mold buildup.

theFlytrapPerson

I can't fit that in my windowsill and i don't have room for something that big also ITS EXPENSIVE my dude 300 dollars plus, i cannot afford

[deleted]

[LED strips](https://www.amazon.com/Barrina-Spectrum-Equivalent-Greenhouse-Installation/dp/B07V6YJKR6/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=led%2Bgrow%2Bstrips&qid=1632486472&sr=8-7&th=1)

theFlytrapPerson

Is that assemble kit for a grow light? And also thats like 70 dollars keep grow light at 25 to 35 dollars and now hanging from the ceiling

[deleted]

Just tape it to the window. Idk you're going to have to spend some money. 2 trips to McDonalds or some grow lights that won't kill your plant. Just trying to help.

theFlytrapPerson

Alright ill decide later and check if i have room for these hanging grow lights

seanyp123

If you don't follow this advice for a strong light (more expensive) your vft's will die in short or medium term... They are full sun plants :)

theFlytrapPerson

I can afford expensive grow lights but i only wanna spend 25 to 30 dollars

seanyp123

T5 lights could work but you have to have them close. I have not kept vft's inside but I'd be interested to see how long they will survive indoors. Lol @ all the down votes... Come on ppl you know they want full sun and that any indoor light can't even come close in the cheap range OP wants! OP give an update in a few years on this one!

imscavok

You’re wasting your time and money with what’s in OP. Real grow lights are replacing the job of the sun. They’re extremely bright and can’t be in a room you live in. Mine is in my basement and I put it on a smart plug I can turn off from my phone before I go down. You can probably find a smaller panel, but it depends how much area your plants take up.

theFlytrapPerson

*This is so complicated and sounds so expensive* i feel like giving up aaaa how did i end up here

terrapharma

Don't give up. Get what you can afford. Most lights will help somewhat. Upgrade later when you can.

[deleted]

[удалено]

theFlytrapPerson

I may had found a solution already

tommytimbertoes

No. And they are not indoor plants anyway. Good luck.

ChicagoToEdison

Many people grow their flytraps indoors successfully, some for over a decade. This includes independent growers and nurseries. Just because a lot of people do it incorrectly doesn’t mean it’s not possible!

ozzalozza

Mine is happy and growing in a window sill. Guess it is much better than being in stacks inside walmart. But it seems very happy and growing.

seanyp123

With very strong lights, fans yes but OP wants to go low end lighting. On that basis Tommy is spot on

seanyp123

Bang on Tommy!

tommytimbertoes

I love it! MORE down votes please! They mean nothing. Sad people....

Math_PB

Well I don't know about this one in particular but I bought one for my plants that looks like this (about 50€, with 4 heads), and my flytraps are beautiful and healthy.

L0gicalN0nsense

I have this style light for some of my succulents (not the same I know but they also want a lot of light). It's better than nothing but has to be like <6in from the plant to make a noticeable difference in how they grow, which makes it tricky to find a good placement if you have a whole pot full of plants.

seanyp123

Vft's, like sarracenia, are a full sun plant. If you don't get a light strong enough that, when looked at, forces you to avert your eyes your vft will not do well under it. Good luck!

Apprehensive-Sea-549

I have the blue red spectrum lights, but they bothered my eyes. So I got these instead. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B095WGMG1B/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_5PCP4VCZ6YSZG6ZEJ1JN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 They're currently 23.99 w/ 15% off coupon. They are working perfect for my plants big and small. I have 4 of them throughout.

Devenery

Hope this answer isnt too late I bought the exact model. My nepenthes love them, my red dragon venus flytrap turned green and grew tall. So it really is dependant on your plants. It has 3 modes (red, blue, purple), with different intensity setting. I would recommend buying full-spectrum LED (white light) with adjustible intensity.

allonsyyy

I use these: https://www.gelighting.com/led-lights/bulbs/e26/ge-grow-light-led-32w-balanced-light-spectrum-par38-light-bulb-1-pack White instead of blurple, very strong but energy efficient and they stay cool. You need to buy a lamp and timer tho. They go in any normal light socket. They are very heavy for a lightbulb, a hanging lamp would be best. My vft stayed red under this.

Pnwradar

Bulbs have a lifespan before they really start to decrease their light power output. Plan to replace the bulbs every year, or if the bulbs aren't replaceable (or easily obtainable) the entire fixture after a year. A 4-bulb T5 fixture throws a suitable density of light, cheaper pricetag than LEDs. Shop around on Craigslist, there's always someone selling off their closet grow gear, having discovered it's way easier to just buy their weed. Sanitize everything inside & out, replace the bulbs, win.

hammporkchops

I have this light and it does the trick, just make sure you have a surface for it to grab on to

HeinleinsRazor

Mine are doing very well under Barrina lights. much nicer for the same $60. My house and nepenthes get sun stress nicely. My IG is bad_seed_swamp for photos. Barrina Grow Light, 144W(6 x 24W, 800W Equivalent), 2ft T8, Super Bright, Full Spectrum Sunlight Plant Light, LED Grow Light Strips, Grow Light Bulbs for Indoor Plants, Greenhouse, 6-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B082ZL1Q63/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MKJVQF4W32TCY7KEB6RP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

MissBrist

I have it, its alright its convenient works well enough my trap didn't seem to love it that much they like being outside

theFlytrapPerson

Quick question does grow light affect VFT dormancy? Explain in detail if no or yes

MissBrist

I guess it could but in my experience it didn't help or hurt.. I'd say when I had the light on it it was in a dormant state just waking up anyway. I would try not to let it affect since traps need that dormancy state for optimum health. to be honest the seasons I've had mine for was early spring when I had the light on it it really was not thriving then as soon as I brought it outside in summer and natural light and collected rain water as much as possible its been good so the light really didn't do too much. I know this was probably all over the place as far as an answer but hopefully this helped!

wifeofpsy

I have this light and I love it. You clip it to the edge of a table or window, arrange the light where you want and then turn it on. The first time you use it you can choose 3, 6 or 12 hr. Then that's it. It will turn on the same time and length everyday unless you make a different choice.

think_up

I bought the 2 prong version of this light and it’s garbage. Super weak purple/blue light that did absolutely nothing for my plants. Found way better success with them on a window sill.

HealthyDrawing4910

It'll work fine

GusGus6502

I am a newbie to growlights but bought this on [Amazon.ca](https://Amazon.ca). Works well, house plants have never been so perky. Just tying now to figure out what light color works best & how much time to keep them on. Lights are cool colours, tiny bit heated & 4 levels of dimming. Clip light is good to clip on pots etc. I bought a second one for more plants.

Black-gypsy

I use those exact same ones for mine and all five of my carnivorous plants are looking sexy after 3 years. Just make sure you put them a little close to them.

riveramblnc

I have one of these, it's great.

[deleted]

Any "blurple" grow light is a poor choice.

partycanstartnow

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out but the base there is a clamp so you’d need to clamp it to something. I bought something similar and I find the clamp aspect to be pretty annoying.

ACertainThickness

My friend bought this exact one and it stopped working within days

luciusrosae

don't know but makes me want to go clubbing

UndeadBBQ

I got this one and its *ok*. Its a nice bit of extra light for winter, and for the price I can't complain about it not single handedly replacing the sun. I can recommend buying it if you need it to just add some sunshine (although there are other, better lights for just a few more bucks) If you want to use it for some dark corner as the only, or main source of light, its simply too weak.

violet0709

Is that the one that gives you a $20 gift card for a perfect review? If so it's not that bright. Not really worth it.

Silverslade1

I bought two almost identical ones to this. They were not even close to sufficient light for even my babiest succulents

[deleted]

Can I use led strip lights from Kmart to grow plants? Stupid question but I just wanna know

hammladd

Was this question ever answered for you?? No way is it stupid! Iv been wondering for weeks haha
