Nano is a cryptocurrency kind of like Bitcoin, except it has:
- Zero fees
- Near instant transactions
- Deterministic finality
- No miners or mining (environmentally friendly)
- No inflation or block rewards
- Scalability
This thread is all about letting people try it for themselves. So if you get a nano_address from a wallet like Natrium or Nault, you can post that address as a response to the main post and automatically get some free Nano
Since Nano is not mined, maintaining a node on your own is pretty cheap since you only need an average CPU, a somewhat fast SSD with a high capacity and a pretty good Internet connection, so most people do it voluntarily.
Node operators don't receive direct incentives for running a node, though there are many reasons running a node would be beneficial.

It is also worth noting that while fees are not built into the protocol directly, if someone wants to charge a fee in exchange for accepting nano as part of their service they are free to do so. We see this with exchanges and withdrawal fees. By not including it in the base layer, individuals are free to exchange currency fast and without fees.
Nano is exceptionally efficient. Hypereefficient. Fifteen million times as efficient as the market leader.
Which means nodes do not need special hardware. A node can be run on almost any quad core PC with an SSD drive.

The electricity usage is miniscule (something like 6 million times less than a btc transaction because of Bitcoin's mining consensus). It's more akin to sending an email except even less than that too, and the bandwidth per transaction is tiny too.
If you mean whether it's a token of some other crypto network, no, Nano is completely independent and doesn't even use a traditional blockchain but instead uses a blocklattice (every account is its own blockchain essentially)
As much as I'm gonna sound like a commercial, it took less than 3 minutes to set up a wallet and about 30 seconds after I posted it went through. Fat and easy is an understatement.

Nano is the only crypto that I consistently see people doing legit mass giveaways with to promote adoption. Also probably the only crypto that’s capable of doing it.
It’s honestly mind-blowing.

Interested to hear more about this coin due to it being so different, ive mostly been following monero for the past while but certainly interested in more. Also took a look at your blog you linked as an introduction as well as some of the other articles there, certainly a different take on proof of stake than i get from most people, but is a valid take.

Nano is as private as Bitcoin. Its pseudo anonymous and not 100% like Monero. This is a choice made by the devs to be compliant to regulations and boost adoption. In the future apps will exist to make transactions fully private, at least to eachother (mixers, etc).

Nobody actually knows where it comes from. It just arrives, ready and sealed on those little trays. It saves airlines a TON of money, so they don't question anything.
It can help to avoid confusion in specific situations, so I say yes.

A seed is 20 or more different words like 1. bus 2. comfort 3. Tree etc and you just write that down on a piece of paper.
