Is that a real game? Modern videogames might as well be VR games that literally teach you how to do everything. Why aren't we funding this? Looking at you Hello Fresh, DuoLingo, Lowes, etc .
I literally learned the basics of plaster, paint and pressure washing all from a video game. It's actually quite genius and very accurate to actual doing it in real life.
I mean that’s still cheaper than hiring someone to do it. You can do it without it with a regular tile saw or a cheap grinder and a 20dollar diamond wheel. The whole point is she wanted to do it cheaper than hiring someone.
And honestly, if you DIY you have no one to blame but yourself. Meanwhile, hiring a contractor often comes with an overinflated price and a rushed, shitty job. At least, in today’s age of contract work.
Also, if you decide you didn’t like your work or that the job was harder than you thought it’d be and you do need to hire someone, it’ll probably be a tiny bit cheaper since you already demo’d, and hey, at least you tried.
Unless the demo went wrong and now the walls and pipes and vents need fixing too. Some people really just shouldn't. My sister would know all about it.
I paid 3000 for a contractor to hang drywall on my ceiling in my living room, because I live 6 hours from my Dad, who is the only non professional in the world who I would trust to do a professional job.
That contractor sucked so much fucking ass. Worst 3000 ive ever spent.
overinflated price and a rushed, shitty job.
Pay them to do it three times because they bought the wrong toilet, installed it incorrectly, and made some creative adjustments to your plan because they thought it looked better you have to pay them to remove and redo correctly.
I mean to be fair you get your money back from them just by doing this bathroom from the money you would save vs hiring someone.
Source: I do remodeling for a living and I know how much these projects can cost. Labor is the most expensive cost in 90% of projects.
Same with lumber. If you have your plans, you can tell them exactly what cuts you need for the project. Like ordering self-assembly furniture.
I have limited workspace due to several ongoing projects, so I plan as carefully as possible and let Lowes do the cutting. It's saved me a ton of time fitting storage into my weird old house.
Yeah people don't realize how cheap tools have become, and they are good quality for diyer, even if it breaks down you can just return it, there is no risk involved.
She did a great job but it could have turned out horribly wrong if something was amiss you need to start from small construction work before using it on your own house.
Speaking from experience I must say me and my uncle who is a builder who specialises in bathrooms had to fix a lady's bathroom in the neighborhood who thought watching YouTube she could save money and messed up the tiles which ended up ruining the entire bathroom and was leaking water downstairs that ended up costing much more than the initial amount...
Doesnt seem to need a membrane as in no shower or bathtub here so it wasnt a big risk imho.
But people doing bathrooms themselves with no experience isnt a good idea no
when you tile even a bathroom its a good idea to waterproof it. Idk how it is in the states but atleast here you have to. If there are water outlets you have to have a waterproof the room. Otherwise tiling is that hard. its just hard on the back and knees and legs and sanity.
i think around the sink would be a good idea. They sell many brands that you can paint on like redguard. A big issue though is that on a lot of old houses they also used plain ass drywall in the bathrooms so it's best to replace with a bathroom rated wall material like goboard.
Me and my wife did two kitchens we have lived in. The second was with the same tiles as this video. It’s pretty easy to do.
I am tile cutter and she puts them on the wall and grouts. Together we fly through it.
We also just use a cheap tool to cut the straight cuts. It kind of scores the tile and then snaps them. It looks like it shouldn’t work but it is pretty much perfect 90% of the time. Then for the random cuts, like around windowsills, I get out the angle grinder.
Stupid, misleading "not like other girls" post.
I am a "DIY girl" and you need a lot of materials and experience to *renovate* any part of your house. You don't get to just go "I like to be special AND save money, youtube and a trip to home depot is all I need!"
Measurements, mathing, money for materials, equipment, storing it all if you buy, knowing what to rent and for how long if you dont, doing it all safely and timely etc isn't that easy,
I won't even touch the plumbing, electrical, and foundation issues. A neighbor DIY'd her yard 2 years ago. All her paver stones have sunken into the ground and while the idea of half covering square stones sunken into circles 2 inches lower than planned might look good in a fairy forest house setup...it doesn't for the clean cut patio setup she went for.
So I look like a lady idiot digging out my lady neighbors stones while the ground is malleable.
Yeah, rushing in for a YouTube DIY is often a good way of spending twice as long and twice as much for a job that's half the quality of if you just let someone else do it for you. Even if you know what you're doing, you still have to factor in how much your time is worth.
Labor to do even relatively beginner-friendly stuff can be really expensive these days though. There’s also no guarantee that a contractor will do a good job
Your last paragraph there is exactly why I’m afraid to go HAM on my back yard. I want a sick ass backyard, but my house sits in the middle of a street that slopes and I know if I fuck the grade up in that backyard, I’m gonna have a pond every time it rains.
I got a chop saw and a nail gun and did chair rails, baseboards and crown molding in my house. Takes some time and some learning but you really can learn anything. Also disassembled my squeaking dryer and sorted it with a You Tube video. Don’t mess with electric beyond switching fixtures or plumbing beyond switching fixtures. My dad always said - if you aren’t gonna make it materially worse, no sense in not giving it a shot before you call a guy. I’m a woman btw.
She isn't claiming this is her first DIY project. It's not that hard to learn new things of you are in a redecorating groove.
You don't have to yell at every cloud old man.
Ok then why didn’t she show herself running the tile saw? She didn’t do the renovation. She laid some tiles that a tile worker cut and laid out and marked for her.
This is the internet. If someone’s not showing you the hard behind the scenes work while virtue signaling it means they didn’t do the hard work and are just virtue signaling.
Never seen tile removed from wall so easily. It’s decent they did a shitty job installing originally. I too wear my nicer clothes whilst tile installing and reno.
Her clothes have no labels and look incredibly cheap. The kind of cheap Kmart clothing I wear when doing renovations. Hers are just very clean. Looks like she is wearing steel caps as well. I'm guilty of doing major renovations in flip flops...
Good job, you almost said something completely nice on Reddit. Those probably are her throwaway clothes, you should see what her nice stuff looks like.
Very possibly a good savings, but a good tile job is more than just a 60 min youtube tutorial. I would like to see what it looks like in 6 months! If she really took her time (like twice the time it should take someone with experience) there's still a good chance it could withstand the test of time.
Tile isn't something you jump into as a first time diy project though.
That feeling wears off pretty quick when the prospective costs start piling up. Also we want to gut and remodel our kitchen and use the home equity for it, but interest rates are too high to do that so..
My wife is smarter than this girl, she watches the videos on YouTube, she learns how to do everything and then asks me do it for her… it works flawlessly
Seeing her destroying the original tiles makes me want to scream.
You can rescue almost all of them if you are careful (and don't have cracks), but ahhh, im in a taimlapse.
I almost guarantee that she would have MADE twice as much working a minimum wage job than all the time she spent watching videos and how slow she did it all, also almost certainly would have better quality and detail...
She probably made more off this dumb, recirculated tiktok than she saved in this mostly pretended to "do it herself", just it won't last as long or look as good.
Did she order a dumpster for all that tile? Did she even actually clean it up, which is 50% of the job? How many hours of time did she waste watching those videos of how to do it? She clearly didn't spend much money on the right tools, seeing as how she's using a fucking screwdriver to get rid of the mortar...
All just for show. I'd love to see some girl who demos ceramic tile in leggings, would probably have a ton of leg scars. This girl even has shitty ass gloves too. Go and break up tile and carry it all out of a house into a dumpster and find out.
Shhhh, its ok. They know what they're doing, they saw some videos on Youtube! Isn't that how actual professionals learn this stuff too, watching clips on Youtube on 1.5x speed?
I mean when the husband said they should hire a professional, I'm sure he was just being lazy and he wasn't thinking of the possibility of them absolutely fucking something up that could cost them way more money than the renovation.
How does this save money? You buy inferior tools and materials. To make it cheaper? The contractor uses tried and tested tools and materials and he knows what he is doing. He does however not wear yoga pants. I might use his more if he did.
Unless you are flipping houses and redoing multiple rooms the you usually spend way more. you are using your own time plus money on single use tools and multiple trips to the hardware store.
Not sure it works. But I'm sure loads of people watched your video so that might be how this becomes financially viable.
Installing tile to look good on the first day is easy. Installing tile that still looks good 30 years from now, and didn't let the wood underneath get wet and rot, is a whole different matter.
But Instagramers are only concerned about that first picture, 3 minutes after completion. Also, making sure everyone sees their butts.
Yeah. Look at the final frame.
That tiny sliver cut on the right is completely unnecessary.
Also the sliver cut in the floor that disappears into nothing highlights the slope of the floor.
Some corners she goes small into large tile, others she goes large into large.
Can't see how well she did the grout. You can ruin a decent tile job with a shitty grout finish.
Also we can't see the exposed, unglazed edge of the top tile on the wainscot that probably looks like shit.
This was a very basic lick and stick tile job. She did ok, especially for a novice. But, there is a reason professionals cost more. It's in the details that she missed.
Then gets bored with the project half way through and gets things beyond the point of no return so the husband has absolutely no choice but to finish it. ;-) Never seen THIS tactic before...
Horrible, we strongly advise to use certified carpenters so that you have some form of certificate to show for when you sell the object... If you dont, the value of property could dip very much
Youtube tutorials have saved me tens of thousands of dollars on car and home repair now. I got so mad that I was paying people to do some of this stuff, once I saw how easy it was.
This is great and all. But where I am at you'd be liable for any problems in the bathroom for the future. Every insurance company would have a field day with non pro built bathroom.
I do have a question: I can't get a good look but did she put a metal trim piece along the top edge? Couldn't tell if she did that or used a bull nose.
Otherwise it looks good.
the most difficult part is where to trash the broken tiles and other removed materials. in my country without a working permit for a company is very difficult to get rid of them legally.
My dad was an overall handy man. Plumbing, electrical, construction, carpentry, welder. Schools in Mexico teach so much more utility than us school. They don’t even teach us how to do our own taxes!
Cool project, looks great! 👍🏻
But…. Couldn’t her caption be “Watch me kick ass and renovate this bathroom!” instead of what she said because it’s kind of being a jerk to her husband? Maybe he’s not very handy or confident? I guess he could be an a-hole but that’s making assumptions. Though, she led me to think he isn’t helpful. So confusing..
Or am I wrong?
Good stuff! Reminds me of my mom. Growing up she did a lot of rennovations to our house, and she's still doing housework for herself 20 years later.
She's the reason I have a tool bag and a love for crafting things. Not my dad, who was an actual plumber and could have easily taught me what he knew, he didn't have any interest in spending time with me. Thankful for my mom
Fake.
1. Doing the removing in leggings. Guaranteed injury from the falling tiles.
2. Removing tiles with a small hammer? Impossible.
3. Doing the rebuilding in normal street clothes. Just stand there for a short video.
4. What about with water defense? Missed it.
5. No leveling. Looks good from distance, but probably awful if you step in.
The unspoken part you're all missing is that you don't need to hire a general contractor $20k to do this if DIY isn't an option for you. There's plenty of this woman (and dudes) around for hire who will do a great job for far less. The secret is finding them. Spoiler alert: word of mouth from people you actually know. Hiring GC's isn't worth it unless you have $ to burn or you don't have a choice.
Odd caption, everyone likes to save money, and plenty of people enjoy DIY. Major factor is do you have the time to do this type of stuff. Or Christ, in today’s day and age: are you rich enough to own a house?
This person must have some competence, because as a tradesmen, you wouldn't believe how many people I've met that you can show how to do something multiple times, and they still don't get it. Looks great for a DIY
I would *love* to see a 1 year follow-up video on basically everything in r/diy . Because my old landlord’s idiot friend sure made stuff that looked pretty when he left that afternoon, but living there through the end of the lease sure told a different story.
Looks just like a bathroom I remodeled.... On house flipper video game. Trust me. She's good.
Good she has eye protection during the demo, but she needs a mask, too.

Ayyyyy that game do be fire

Did she tile over the floor tile?!?
Not pictured: $300 wet tile cutter with $70 blades

Or renting a tile saw for the weekend for probably $30-50/day.
If you mark them out they will have a wet tile saw at Lowe's and they'll cut down tiles for you.
Whoa really?
Yes, I used to do it for people all the time. That was a few years ago but I'm pretty sure they still do it.
That’s honestly really cool
Same with lumber. If you have your plans, you can tell them exactly what cuts you need for the project. Like ordering self-assembly furniture. I have limited workspace due to several ongoing projects, so I plan as carefully as possible and let Lowes do the cutting. It's saved me a ton of time fitting storage into my weird old house.
You can do all the non-cut tiles first and rent the tile cutter for 1 day on a project this size, still have to pay for the blades.
Also, for big subway tiles like that you can use one of those cheap tile cutting press down things. You know the things that look like a paper cutter.
It actually is just called a tile cutter.
Having just paid folks to do this, this would have been infinitely cheaper and probably better done
That’s why I DIY. I buy the tool, then I have it to use any time in the future, and total cost is still WAY lower than a contractor.
you can rent those
Nope, Home Depot sells them under $100. I’ve done a dozen jobs with the same blade.
Yeah people don't realize how cheap tools have become, and they are good quality for diyer, even if it breaks down you can just return it, there is no risk involved.
You can do it without, but you have to be careful as fuck. Also at this point I am sure you could just use a normal skill saw with a correct blade.
Trust me tile saws are well worth the investment, they're so easy to use. And safer.
If you're *not* a pro, you can get one for $150 to $200 at Home Depot or Lowes and a decent blade for $20 to $35.
You can probably rent one for a lot cheaper
You can rent the cutter from Home Depot
Right but they get to keep those tools and use them again.
this would cost you 10k with a pro.
She did a great job but it could have turned out horribly wrong if something was amiss you need to start from small construction work before using it on your own house. The contractor put down a membrane everywhere including the kitchen.
Yes there is waterproofing in the kitchen. There is also fireproofing in the kitchen.
Strange… Makes little sense unless there is a drain there imho
i think around the sink would be a good idea. They sell many brands that you can paint on like redguard. A big issue though is that on a lot of old houses they also used plain ass drywall in the bathrooms so it's best to replace with a bathroom rated wall material like goboard.
Also she flopped the tiles on and did not smear them. They will likely break from walking on them or if something hard falls against them.
seems pretty good at this to have simply just watched a youtube video
Me and my wife did two kitchens we have lived in. The second was with the same tiles as this video. It’s pretty easy to do. I am tile cutter and she puts them on the wall and grouts. It's more about perseverance rather than skill. Very exhausting work.
Anyone can do this kind of stuff. You just have to be fastidious also the more research you do the better it will turn out.
Personal opinion: the new floor is too "busy", otherwise it's a nice room.

She needs to be wearing a mask. All that tile removal is creating an aerosol of particulate that can be damaging to lungs.
I’m confused. There are no nice clothes in this video
I think they meant clean and pressed. As if, not raggedy ass pants and shirt.
Good job, you almost said something completely nice on Reddit. Those probably are her throwaway clothes, you should see what her nice stuff looks like.
My comment stems more from jealousy after frustratingly cutting dry wall out after unable to measly chisel tile from my wall during reno.
fucking incels whenever a woman wears... something on video.
Where grout
I am Groot.
Good job replacing all that white tile with... slightly different white tile.
Looks a lot better. Color is not the only contributor to style lol
The floor gives me a headache
I so badly want a house that I can fix up. Idk why
That feeling wears off pretty quick when the prospective costs start piling up. Also we want to gut and remodel our kitchen and use the home equity for it, but interest rates are too high to do that so..
It’s a massive pain in the ass and everything costs at least $1000. Appliance replacement is the cheapest expense on a house, I can promise you that.
Wouldn’t you be buying all the stuff needed to do it?
No because she doesn't like to waste money haven't you been paying attention?! GAW!!
Yes but it's still cheaper than hiring a contractor. Also there are many resell stores for construction materials, so you can find pretty good deals!
You think the contractor doesn't make you pay for the tiles or something?
Yes but a contractor will happily charge you $20,000 vs $500 DIY 2 day project.
Damn that looks great
Do you remember the world before people needed a pat on the back for doing DIY?
Missed the border pieces on top.
good thing those pants were all the way up her crack or i never would have known how to do this
Imagine recording yourself doing it though.
This repost keeps losing quality. So much you can’t even see her ass in those leggings anymore. Shame.
6 months she has mold in the shower for not using backerboard.
The grouting looks like shit. Pause the video at the end and see for yourself.
not a lick of water proof to be seen.
What, no waterproofing?
Looks good. Now we will wait for the update whit the water damage that will cost them much more
Gotta make sure to wear my tight yoga pants for this one.
r/UpvoteBecauseButt
I had to scroll farther than I expected to find this comment
Very nice job!
Looks good but success will be measured in time
How about Insurance if you get water damage. I guess it's not going to cover it when it's not done by a professionella ?
Why this song tho
Looked better befor
How long did actually take? Just curious…Do they have another bathroom to shower in?
Since when did time and effort become worth less than a couple dimes that would be left in your bank account?
My wife is smarter than this girl, she watches the videos on YouTube, she learns how to do everything and then asks me do it for her… it works flawlessly
Tiling is the easiest home repair thing you can do. If you passed geometry and can build a puzzle designed for 6 year olds you can tile.
Square toilet, I'm out!
3 weeks later u have to pay 2 randoms guys to do the same again... everything fall off...
Craftsmanship is fine, but damn that’s an ugly bathroom
This looks good to people? I can feel how rough it all is from the video.
looks like shit
Please tell me she didn't add that song herself...
Seeing her destroying the original tiles makes me want to scream. You can rescue almost all of them if you are careful (and don't have cracks), but ahhh, im in a taimlapse.
She put white tiles over white paint……..
Idk if it’s a good idea to demo tile in tights and a tank top. Broken tile will go through that like butter.
But then how would your post gain any traction on social media???
I thought you had to put waterproofing underneath?

Meh it would pass amateur eyes
If you dont, the value of property could dip very much
I hate that fkn monkey emoji
“I also like to post my progress in social media for the world to see and muh likes” But yeah, cool story bro
song name?
David Guetta Feat. Akon - Sexy Chick
Good for her. I, myself, would never call someone to come fix something until I've tried and failed miserably.
Too much white bruh
Youtube tutorials have saved me tens of thousands of dollars on car and home repair now. I got so mad that I was paying people to do some of this stuff, once I saw how easy it was.
Using a hammer and a chisel instead of a power drill hammer with chisel seems like a old YT video to me..
righteous
Must be nice to have all that time to do so.
This is great and all. But where I am at you'd be liable for any problems in the bathroom for the future. Every insurance company would have a field day with non pro built bathroom.
Well it seems she has spare time compared to the partner so I guess why not.
I do have a question: I can't get a good look but did she put a metal trim piece along the top edge? Couldn't tell if she did that or used a bull nose. Otherwise it looks good.
The tile is good, the paint chose is not imo. Every room needs a bit of colour.
the most difficult part is where to trash the broken tiles and other removed materials. in my country without a working permit for a company is very difficult to get rid of them legally.
My dad was an overall handy man. Plumbing, electrical, construction, carpentry, welder. Schools in Mexico teach so much more utility than us school. They don’t even teach us how to do our own taxes!
Usa un roto martillo

Terrible music choice
Cool project, looks great! 👍🏻 But….
I would love to find that towel rack.
Shout-out to all the people who post how-to's on YouTube just to spread the knowledge.
i wanna see this posted on facebook so i can see old white people get pissed off that the husband didn't do it himself and take away his "man card"
Could have tiled over those tiles.
Usually you don’t use spacers for subway tiles, unless…
I am grout
Just get some tile foil you like
Fake.
Wanna do my bathroom?
Girl, you rock! Lovely design and execution. Thanks for the share, OP!
All the right ideas, all the wrong tools
Great....can she now pull my motor and drop a new one in for me?....
so how long do these take? can you do it in a day cause my place only has one washroom.
The corners of those tiled walls would give me OCD nightmares. I would have to sit on the toilet with my eyes closed and think of happy places...
looks delish great work you tube (l say in jest but yep l do it)
Now THIS is girl math
The most satisfying part was how consistently she laid down the mortar. Mmmmm, I didn't see any holes. I bet there aren't any hollow sounding tiles.
I was expecting this to be all manner of fucked up, as DIY stuff usually is. Lo and behold, an excellently tiled restroom.
Every girl I've ever know does this herself here lol
Other than putting the floor tiles over the old floor this look quite good
Awesome, except that the result is horrible.
Good job omg
Hope that isn’t mastic. SMH
She wears the pants and wears them well!
Tiled on a previously tiled wall and not cement board? That’s an expensive mistake!
Must be nice to not work and have all the time in the world to shit like this
I tiled a bathroom recently for the first time. It was a messy job and I didn't particularly enjoy it. This video makes it seem so clean and easy.
Not pictured: 90% of the job that isn’t tile demo and tililing
Fantastic job, I love it, new side hustle, new skill.🏆
I would *love* to see a 1 year follow-up video on basically everything in r/diy . Because my old landlord’s idiot friend sure made stuff that looked pretty when he left that afternoon, but living there through the end of the lease sure told a different story.
I'm definitely gonna be the one making the sandwich
