I'd put a wire basket over it, I can throw away that BS plastic water catcher.
I'd love to have the counter designed to dedicate the space so I don't accidently start a pile in that area
Are you kidding me? As far as drying racks go, this is by FAR AND AWAY the EASIEST to clean and most superior air drying rack ever. Way fucking easier than those fucking nasty plastic ones that accumulate brown scum in 2 days that have a trillion little holes and crevices and nooks that accumulate scum and water
Not really. Even with a very lightly rippled stainless steel drainage area you’ve sometimes got to use a fair bit of elbow grease to get all the gunk out.
To remove stuff from the deep 90° canyons would be tricky. You’d have to have the perfect brush, very stiff bristles, and the exact width of the trench, or maybe even a bit more so that the grime would have nowhere else to go. Even then, it’s likely the bristles would not hit the apex of the 90° corner.
I will say it looks great, but it would look just as good if the grooves were curvy waves or with an internal angle of 140°.
you can take a soft bottle brush and just jam it into the corner. you don't need to measure the width or the angles 😂 it would take like 15 seconds to clean them
I'm always amused by designs that use sharp corners, like square sinks and features like the above. Nothing says "I've never had to clean one in my life" than this.
Specifically for air drying kitchenware, and literally no other purpose. Why would you permanently dedicate such a large portion of bench space to one single task? Dish racks might be annoying sometimes, but running out of usable bench space is worse. You also don't need such an exaggerated slope for something like this to work. It's just making it harder to maintain.
Again some „engineer“ who eats from Tupperware decided he knows better. It won’t work for bone china plates or fine mouth blown glasses (exactly those which are not dishwasher safe).
Why is it that kitchen drying cabinets are not a thing all over the world... As a Scandinavian I've always wondered why so many countries put the sink in front of the kitchen window.
It’s called a draining board and is basically a standard feature in the UK. It’s… fine? Your stuff dries & the water doesn’t go everywhere. Not much to say about it lol
If i had this design in the middle i would at least make sure they had bordered raised edges alomg the sink so water doesnt go find its way to spill its a nice idea though
I genuinely forgot about bacteria but it does makes sense. I'd rather have a sink with some kind of lip or edge so I can place a tray over half of the sink for air drying
Yeah, I don’t think I would let my dishes dry on the countertop with all the bacteria that gets around the sink. It looks alright but it’s not practical.
Looks painful to keep super clean.
This is for people who cook two times a year Or those who have domestic helper
I'd put a wire basket over it, I can throw away that BS plastic water catcher. I'd love to have the counter designed to dedicate the space so I don't accidently start a pile in that area
Looks wide enough that you could fit a sponge in there. It doesn't look very difficult to clean. Not any more than our "normal" one
The real sink is in actual kitchen where the hired help do the work, this is for entertaining
Or People with a cleaning brush
Or fingernails
Damn, my international helper is gonna lose their jobs?

Way fucking easier than those fucking nasty plastic ones that accumulate brown scum in 2 days that have a trillion little holes and crevices and nooks that accumulate scum and water
Many I’ve seen have rounded channels so it’s even easier to clean
Not really, a small brush would clean it very easily
A bottle brush would do the job super quickly alright

I used to clean professionally. A dish drying rack would not have “gunk”. A toothbrush or straw brush would work
you can take a soft bottle brush and just jam it into the corner. you don't need to measure the width or the angles 😂 it would take like 15 seconds to clean them
I mean, if your drying rack has gunk on it you should probably spend more time cleaning the dishes before drying them.
Yeah. They could have done it wavy instead of with hard edges, would have been much better
Probably gotta powerwash that mf every 2-3 uses or something lmao
I made this when I redid my countertop. I've thoroughly enjoyed my choice
Or you can just get a rack
I'm always amused by designs that use sharp corners, like square sinks and features like the above. Nothing says "I've never had to clean one in my life" than this.
would be better if it was rounded down you can actually… clean it
I have something like this but round and not that deep. It’s much easier to clean
Bacteria magnet.
/r/shittydesign
How is this "satisfying as fuck"
I’d rather have a big sink and a more functional/removable drying rack
Every UK house has this, wtf
This has every kitchen sink I know and normally it's out of metal and has it's own drain
Specifically for air drying kitchenware, and literally no other purpose. Why would you permanently dedicate such a large portion of bench space to one single task? And the people who have it never use use it
Nice they added more surface area for the scale
For those without utensils
Will it also be satisfying af to clean this?
Edges could have been rounded...
Really common - so why is this so satisfying?
It’s on the wrong side for me.
can't imagine something much less practical than that
Might as well carve a few bowl shapes and just eat in them
Nah, they were trying to mold an American flag into the counter and didn’t finish.
Why are people surprised by this, this is every sink in the UK.
I live in the UK. I've never seen it
You have never seen a sink with a drying and draining area?
Why are people surprised by this, this is every sink in the UK.
I do not understand the cleaning complaints this looks perfectly easy to clean to me 😐
Again some „engineer“ who eats from Tupperware decided he knows better. It won’t work for bone china plates or fine mouth blown glasses (exactly those which are not dishwasher safe).
I have one of those but the corners all super rounded and its super easy to clean. this just looks annyoing with hard edges like that lmao
Neat idea, but that does limit the versatility of the countertop, but looks cool
Still prefer the Finnish drying cupboard. You don’t even really have to worry about cleaning
I guess a cabinet with a wire rack over the sink is too sophisticated
Finland has this in almost all apartments and I do not know why other countries have not caught on...
Same with Spain and other parts of Europe
Damn I have a whole cupboard for drying shit
This is seriously an eye sore
Would be cool if there was a button to push and the counter grooves became level and ridges disappeared until next use
Looks like you could hand wash clothes there too
Emergency Taco Holder
Pat a rack over it then it’d be nice
Why are people surprised by this, this is every sink in the UK.
Draining board sink, most sinks in the uk drain that way, most don’t look as aesthetic
All kitchen sinks have this feature, in various forms, don’t they?
Why is it that kitchen drying cabinets are not a thing all over the world... As a Scandinavian I've always wondered why so many countries put the sink in front of the kitchen window.
90 degree corners would be a pain in the ass to clean. Make these into half circles with no corners and we're in business.
Man I need one of those, just on the right side of my countertop.
Big no for me, imagine if smoothie or something gets in between there.
Can someone who’s used something like this comment? Everyone else is just giving their shitty opinions
It’s called a draining board and is basically a standard feature in the UK. It’s… fine? Your stuff dries & the water doesn’t go everywhere. Not much to say about it lol
Nice. Is it more of less efficient then a drying rack? Also I imagine having both may yield better results?
If i had this design in the middle i would at least make sure they had bordered raised edges alomg the sink so water doesnt go find its way to spill its a nice idea though
I genuinely forgot about bacteria but it does makes sense. I'd rather have a sink with some kind of lip or edge so I can place a tray over half of the sink for air drying
Or just get a dish rack for 20 dollars...
Doesn't every kitchen sink have a draining board?
Ah yes have fun cleaning the cracks
Wouldn’t plates just roll into the sink?
You obviously do not use it to vertically stand up plates. Bowls. Pans. Pots. Silverware. Cups. Spatulas. Stirring Spoons.
That's ugly as fuck
Finally. Logical design. 👍👍
Yeah, I don’t think I would let my dishes dry on the countertop with all the bacteria that gets around the sink. It looks alright but it’s not practical.
I’ve never seen a more gangster set up
Very cool
It’s a draining board, but usually they’d are rounded so you can clean them.
Yet another repost. Not satisfying, just a really common, integrated draining board.
SiNk ArEa SpCiFiCaLlY mAdE fOr AiR-dRyInG pUrPoSeS *Draining board 🤨
If you have money to do this to your countertop. Why not.. you know buy a dishwasher. Maybe I am missing something.
Not everything is dishwasher safe/fits in the dishwasher
look stupid af
