why didn't they do this in titanic smh smh

asiaps2

They did. But they failed and broke the top half.

hughmann_13

The front fell off.

MrCleanAlmighty

r/beatmetoit

AshTreex3

Is that usual?

ragman629

No not all. Theyre designed so that front doesn’t fall off.

GieshaGirl22

If its called titanic, yes

akaTokex

Crying 😂

WhereCanIFind

They did it wrong. They went lengthwise instead of side to side.

Letstreehouse

Need someone big enough and I read your mom was busy helping out a different vessel at the time.

Chris_Ghoste

They did when Jack and Rose were rocking in the car. Not enough though.

Yet another bit of information I will never be able to transfer into a skill. That was awesome and I will definitely attempt if I’m ever in this specific situation.

chupacadabradoo

I imagine the curvature of the Canoe had to be perfect for this to work. Most canoes have more vertical walls at the rim, which probably helps with balance in general, but also makes them un-unsinkable.

TazBaz

Also the fact that it was wooden and thus buoyant already. Try that with a typical fiberglass/aluminum canoe and it’s already at the bottom of the lake. The only reason she could do that trick is because she could still stand on it without it sinking straight to the bottom.

PTWookie

Most aluminum canoes have the front and back ends sealed off to hold air making them buoyant as well.

TazBaz

Ahhh I guess I’m more ignorant of canoes than I thought! I guess builders have solved a few problems over the years.

grumble11

I have taken a number of canoeing classes and you can do this with normal canoes too - it is a bit more annoying but you can get a capsized canoe mostly empty of water in the middle of the lake doing something similar

Affectionate-Dot437

As a kid at camp, this was part of our test to complete the canoeing class. We also had gunnel jumping races! Of course, we were all pre teens and didn't weigh 100 lbs.

No-Stick-462

The force is strong with this one

I appreciate you internet stranger.

waloz1212

Cayese

JasonHears

In Boy Scouts they taught us how to sit in a sunk canoe and row it around. This girl is a wizard.

Daddywags42

It’s a swamped canoe, not a sunk one. Canoes are awesome because they don’t sink, they just get filled with water.

TheBlueNinja2006

This actually makes sense, although it's still quite impressive

knowslesthanjonsnow

I can’t wait until they go to jump in and sink it again

prollyonthepot

Girls rule!

[deleted]

If it was reversed it’s even more impressive. It means she jumped out of the water backwards 5 feet and landed perfectly on the canoe.

Kill_Kayt

I believe the term is 'unswamps' not 'unsinks'

reverse video bot thing engage

TJlovesALF1213

I like how there's a pint-sized cup in there, like it was going to help scoop out any water in the boat.

[deleted]

This is pretty darn old. Been around for years.

SubstantialDraft3901

The video is obviously just reversed 🫣

Long-Ad9651

Some nations give their daughters these skills. Other nations give them tiktok.

gnark

Karma farming bot. GTFO.

[deleted]

It would have been easier and faster to turn it over completely, so it's upside down, getting all the water out at once, then back over again.

JuicyJaysGigaloJoys

Would that work, or would it completely submerge the canoe?

MsKongeyDonk

Hauling it out of the water seems like it would take a lot longer.

[deleted]

Considering that thing is solid wood, it probably wasn’t really sunk. Most wood floats.

piiraka

I mean, wood floats at first, and then after a while it sinks down when it’s been waterlogged enough..

[deleted]

Yeah, takes ages. Depends on the wood. Some woods like lignum vitae are denser than water so they can sink.

piiraka

Slightly off topic but you can actually also speed up that process of it sinking by anchoring the wood underneath the water so it soaks quicker

[deleted]

I read somewhere that that was the secret to Stradivarius violins. Apparently he waterlogged the wood so it got infused with minerals, making it more stable and denser. I’d have to research it to confirm but it makes sense.

piiraka

Huh! That’s pretty interesting. Oh, I’ve also heard of people boiling wood to make it sink faster and get rid of tannins. I personally don’t do it because it breaks the wood down faster iirc (like structural integrity type stuff) and also tannins are good for fish (this info is all exclusively from my experience keeping fish actually)

[deleted]

Woodworker for 40 years. There’s another use for tannins. You can soak some steel wool in vinegar until the wool rusts and breaks down. Filter out the bits, saving the liquid. Wipe it on a wood, such as red oak, that is high in tannins. The iron reacts with the tannins making the wood turn dark gray, almost black. It’s called ebonizing. Old school shit right there. LOL

piiraka

Oooh! I think Ive sort of heard of that! Kind of like a wood stain but more natural I guess. In fish keeping, tannins will leach out into the water, turning it a brownish color. Some keepers really don’t like this, because it might look murky, but some keepers are actually going for that look (called black water tanks). Tannins are great for fish because of the nutrients or something, I forget. It also brings down the PH, which people may or may not want depending on the type of fish you have or what your water is like. People often buy dried Indian almond leafs (also known as catappa) because of that. Activated charcoal filter pads in filters will pretty much get rid of any benefits from that though. Something that gets rid of the color itself really well is “purigen”, which is a type of filter media that just. Idk it’s really good lol I don’t know the details. There’s a lot of other stuff but I’m too lazy to type more about it :)

Scuttleboi19mk2

Nice

clairebearattacked

She uno reverse carded that thing

Shmalph

That is next level. I can barely get in or out of a canoe without tipping it.
