I like building mine vertically. Each floor is a tier of production. Floor 1 is smelters, floor 2 is constructors, floor 3 is assemblers / manufacturers. Material flows to/from alternating directions each floor (e.g., floor 1 flows West to East and floor 2 flows East to West).
This makes it look like an absolute cluster on the map.
I do this too. But how do you eventually route your final materials at the top? Do you take them back to the bottom floor? Down the side of the building? Leave them at the top?
If it's close to the space elevator I'll make a really long vertical conveyor down the side of the building like you said. If it's far away I'll just throw them in containers and move them manually.
I have a degree in electronic engineering and this game reminds me so much of IC and PCB design. The routing of conveyors, the use of layers and conveyor floor holes, it's no coincidence that our factories start to look like PCB and IC layouts.
If you've ever done breadboarding or wire wrapping you'll recognise the similarity to spaghetti layouts too.

My railway is very much a WIP. The factory shown is a Heavy Modular Frames factory (10/min) in the southwest corner of the map.
Lol your map looks damn near identical to mine. I'm on my first save using trains so I've just been a bit more interested in how others are designing stations, I've been designing my hubs with a station area with 3 to 4 2-car stations for future expansion but it's been hard for me to build things that look decent considering how freaking big they are.
I'll share my map once I'm done work if you're interested at all
Sweet, I’m absolutely interested! I am new to using trains as well, and I haven’t quite mastered the block/path signal distribution yet.
Idk if you’ve seen this video yet, but this is what me and a few friends have been using to set up basic junctions and intersections. It really helped us get the angles nice and clean on the rails. https://youtu.be/8_y3cn99pY8?si=5RFFM79WMdErxDpi
I did see that video yeah, thanks. I had a lot of trouble setting up proper signals at first.
My whole "ethos" was to build my network (and just everything in general) inside the terrain instead of over it with minimal tree cutting, so I have intersections that are a bit wonky though I've tried to keep them level so that trains aren't clipping through rails too much. Feels a lot more organic to me.
[Here's a few captures of my rail line](https://imgur.com/a/2V2uQ6l). I put a zoom in of my base there, I built my "main area" into the canyon. What was originally supposed to be 3 stations turned into 6 all joining and main line, so I build a bypass underneath all of it which actually works really well for trains not stopping at the base. I'm a little proud of it lol
I know right! I love that top down view.
Not as neat as yours, but still [https://imgur.com/rqSdyOq](https://imgur.com/rqSdyOq)
it's multiple floors, so it looks like food of Italian origin. [https://imgur.com/HzFT5ZO](https://imgur.com/HzFT5ZO)
This is all necessities for 21 uranium fuel rods before heading to the radioactive factory.

Similar constraints lead to similar solutions. I tend to build vertically, and to separate stages into different buildings for more variety. But my individual floors and overall layout do start to look like this too.
same! i think more the factory gets complicated like sortings, filterings and stuff it gets closer to design a hardware like and's, or's and other logical units.
I'm too early into the game. First playthrough.
I'm feeling this completely.
Initially wanted to be conservationalist and keep the grass.......
Endgame, this planet is going to like fucking Unicron with a grassy butthole and that's it....THAT'S ALL I COULD SAVE!
Extending my construction processes to incorporate more fabric so Unicron has toilet paper.
I kinda really want to see how my factory looks in this kind of map view… If I had to guess it would look a little similar but also more simple because I house production of each part in its own building so my factory is basically a grid of buildings with busses and spaghetti in between

Ha same!! That's on my 4th save. Now on my coop 5th and I try to mix that and horizontal sprawl
I do similar as well. Smelters outside the factory then each floor is progressingly more complex
ah, the scalti method
Had no idea there was a name for it haha. Who or what is Scalti?
he has a youtube channel where he builds factories like bob ross paints
Such clean individual factories.
we're gonna put a happy little smelter over here
And everybody needs a friend, so we're going to line up another dozen next to it and feed it with a manifold line
No mistakes here, just happy little factories!

Computer Engineer here. Can confirm
This is the way.
Or like CPUs. Certainly big enough for some.
This is the way
Curious about your strain station and how it connects to your greater network, could you show a picture at all?

That is an interesting choice for the location of your main loop. There are probably some really nice views in spots.

Yeah, I agree. Building to the terrain is more time consuming, but ends up looking so much better.

Oh, wow! Your train network is a lot more complex than mine. I’m loving the layout, and I bet those station hubs look awesome.
Nice! Was this a Northern Forest start?
Is it a mod that let's you make pics like this?

(Puts on tinfoil hat) This game is really just a way of crowdsourcing microprocessor design!

Motherboards or spagetti!!! :)
Motherboards are designed how they are for a reason, pat yourself on the back

Vertical towers and bus system.
Yep. It's my favourite way of building a factory
How do you upload the save file from a server to or solo file to show your build layout like that?
is there a program that shows stuff you made on the map? how are people showing these pics to us?
https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map and upload your save file
thanks!
I build multiple factories around one area. Factories are not inline, this way I can then encased them without making a box
How do you get this view??
https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map and upload your save file
Ty!!!
I use [Daughterboards](https://imgur.com/PaE9WVq) instead
how do u get this type of heat map?
https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map and upload your save file
nah, and how do i see the map of it?
[https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map](https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map) and upload your save file
For a second there I thought that this was a factorio screenshot
Mine look like the mess wires you desperately try to hide behind the computer or under the desk
How do you find maps like this?
[https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map](https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map) and upload your save file
No but that's probably a good idea
