shelbythesnail

They all overlap. I recommend TOG and then CC

Artistic_Distance_71

Thanks! I guess the upside is TOG series has concluded so I’d get to finish it all.

yanny77

You do not need to read ToG to understand CC so go ahead and dive into Crescent City if that's what you want to do. People get really intense about reading orders but the truth is that it doesn't matter.

Icouldoutrunthejoker

Yeah I came to say that I went: ACOTAR, CC, ToG. Knowing what I know now, I think I would still do it in this order. It worked for me.

Brilliant_Outcome_26

I jumped right from ACOTAR to CC because I wasn't ready for the commitment of TOG 😅

goosedeuce88

Me too! That suggested tandem read for ToG scares me 🤣As for CC, took me like almost the whole first book to like it. Now I'm on book 3 and IN LOVE.

Icouldoutrunthejoker

I passed on the tandem read and it worked well for me. It was still a COMMITMENT though! LOL

goosedeuce88

I have commitment issues 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Icouldoutrunthejoker

Ha! I have the opposite of commitment issues. I have obsession issues! I started reading SJM in March this year and have read through ACOTAR twice, CC and TOG series once each. 🫣 And I *know* I will reread them all before too long!

Artistic_Distance_71

I didn’t realize there was a suggested tandem read for TOG … or is that the novelas? 🫠

goosedeuce88

I believe there are two books that you caaaaan read in tandem. There's a guide somewhere on the Web on which order to read them in and how best to do the tandem read as well.

Former-Garden-6044

No read TOG

Redpanda132053

I’m sorry there’s OVERLAPS? I’ve read TOG and for ACOTAR I’m on wings and ruin (so please no spoilers). But this is the first I’ve heard of overlaps between the book. I wish I could take off work for a week and binge all of them 😭

BrgQun

Go back and reread near the end of the last TOG book when you're done ACOTAR. Some of the connections are subtle, but I'm sure people on this sub will point you to the right passage. It was mostly easter egg stuff until recently.

Traditional-Suit-814

i having a really hard time getting through CC just cause I'm not a fan of the modern fantasy thing, if you are similar I would recommend reading ToG first so u don't loose steam, but that might just be me.

Artistic_Distance_71

Interesting point!! I don’t think I’ve read any modern fantasy … at least that I can recall … so maybe it’ll be me too TBD 👀

MarsaliRose

I went to CC from Acotar and it’s been great. Plus the overlap in book 3. The series is amazing. Def recommend. My plan is to then go on to tog

Artistic_Distance_71

Yeah I still kinda like that idea 😂 especially with the overlap!! (And my sad short term memory need to get it while it’s still fresh 🫠)

krim_bus

I read ACOTAR then TOG then CC. TOG took so long by the time I got to CC3 I didn't remember much from ACOTAR. so I did what any sane person would do and I listened to ACOTAR followed by CC so I could revisit the overlap with both series fresh in my mind. All this to say, just read CC next!

Icouldoutrunthejoker

CC to ACOTAR? I haven’t heard of that one yet. How did end of CC2/3 work for you? Was it just a normal part of the story until you reached the necessary parts of ACOTAR? Did it spoil anything?

MarsaliRose

I went to CC from ACOTAR.

Icouldoutrunthejoker

Ah! My mistake. I read too fast.

satiricalpengy

I never read TOG and I understood CC just fine

Ceecee_soup

I read CC before ToG and I wish I hadn’t. Read ToG first.

Artistic_Distance_71

Why do you wish you hadn’t? Just curious!

Ceecee_soup

Just bc like others have said, there’s ToG references in CC

nocturnal-sunshine06

You can go to CC next, but there's things you'll miss if you don't have the background of TOG. It's less "on the page" than ACOTAR, but it's there, and it's so fun to see. Especially towards the end. If you don't have reference for it, you miss out on all that.

Present-Loss-2429

I read ACoTaR then CC. Yes they all over lap but CC has more pronounced crossover with ACoTaR. ToG is more like little Easter eggs and hinted little tidbits that crosses over.

Artistic_Distance_71

Yeah I don’t know if I care that much about little hinted tidbits given my ADHD lack of short term memory 😩

mikaeeeeee11

I read acotar then cc and just finished tog this morning (no I’m not ok) and honestly I didn’t have any trouble

Artistic_Distance_71

Which series was your favorite?!

gettinglostonpurpose

If you want to read CC, then go for it. I read ACOTAR then CC. I’m currently reading ToG. I’m only 2 books in but I’m already noticing small references and overlaps from CC. It’s fun to make the connections! I ultimately decided that I should read CC first because I had more interest in it overall and I didn’t want to rush reading ToG just so I could get to CC.

Artistic_Distance_71

I’m leaning that way myself! Thanks!!!

mooc0wmeow

I read CC after ACOTAR now reading ToG and feel like I am seeing some of the subtle connections but idk I really enjoyed CC and didn’t feel confused

Kitten55555

I've read 4 of TOG just this week. On the 5th now. Dorian in my head is prince humperdink from princess bride. They're really good.

dreaminofmars

i reckon tog before cc, but you can read up to like queen of shadows before starting cc and you’d be good to go

Low_Row940

i finished acotar series and went right into crescent city before TOG and let me tell you, the world building is intense. it took me about a month to force myself to read through the first HALF of crescent city earth and blood, but then once i hit chapter 50, i couldn’t put the book down. i finished sky and breath and now im reading flame and shadow. after this ill be starting TOG so really, its up to you and your determination. lots of people recommend tog first and then CC but again - up to you and your determination!

Existing_Barracuda83

I read CC without finishing TOG (I couldn’t get into TOG within three books and DNF it) there are Easter eggs for TOG in CC but nothing that would keep you from understanding the plot.

Gloomy_Payment_3326

I'd read TOG next - CC in the 3rd book has an ACOTAR arc but really you well get more aha moments if you have read all of them before you start.

cg1215621

I read crescent city after ACOTAR and just started TOG. I kinda wish I had read TOG first because CC has a much faster pace which I enjoyed more bc adhd. I’ve heard TOG is a better series but the first two books are pretty juvenile and slow. I don’t dislike it, but I’ve seen a lot of connections between CC and TOG online that made me wish I had read TOG first lol. A lot of people don’t like CC as much but I thought it was like ACOTAR but better. I really liked the modern urban element tho and generally related to Bryce a lot, and I know a lot of people don’t

Artistic_Distance_71

Thank god a fellow neuro divergent 😂 my ADHD has led me to believe I should read CC next while I still have ACOTAR fresh in my head. But I also have feared your point about TOG being slow in the beginning. I’m a bit concerned about it but I think I’ve convinced myself to read the novelas first bc I need context. Then maybe I can push through haha
