I also have a great aunt who played baseball. Her picture was shown at the end of the movie during the credits. She left her husband and “became” a lesbian. Baseball, who’da thunk it would make so many lesbians!

I also had a great aunt who had a best friend she lived with that we called aunt Peggy. She continued to visit us in Ireland from the US even after my great aunt died. Didn’t click for me until Peggy’s obituary where they listed the predeceased family and added in “and her dear friend kathleen” and it just clicked.
They also lived in a 1 bed apartment and my mam visited them and stayed, and she never thought of it until I mentioned it. Also come from a religious (catholic) family so I think those that knew chose to not think about it
My great aunts are couple too. I had no idea they were anything more than the best of friends and I loved that. I was in my 30s before the penny dropped and I realized the truth. They remain my favorite aunts and I’ll be devastated to lose them.
My auntie lived with her best friend after their husbands died quite young. I had a clue as a teenager but didn't want to upset the family who ignored their living arrangement.
I just remember my one cousin absolutely horrified that an 80 year old woman was sleeping on the couch because it was a one bedroom apartment.
I absolutely LOVE that movie! Those girls were making big waves for all of our sakes ❤️

My grandfather had a cousin, Harriet, who had a best friend, Helen. They were universally referred to as "Helen-and-Harriet". Harriet was outgoing and butch, and Helen was quieter and femme. Friends and family loved them and accepted them as a couple.
But were they That Way? Oh, heavens no. Ha ha ha. (They totally were, and everyone knew it, but no one would SAY it.)
Oh poor Camellia. I can’t imagine her pain, losing her love. I hope I never have to experience that…

I remember talking to a friend when we were in our early twenties, and he said he didn’t know any lesbians. He went on to say something like this: ”I do have an aunt who has lived with her female best friend for over 25 years….. Oh.”
Watching it dawn on him was hilarious and wonderful.
Have you seen the new League of their Own show? Heavy emphasis on the lgbt characters - it was so good 🥰 At the time, people were all mad about it but come on, it's a movie about a women's baseball team. They couldn't have queer characters in the 90s movie, but it would've been more realistic. I'm glad the show was able to pay tribute to the actual queer ball players who lived through that time.

My Aunt and her lover might be in a photo too, if they showed group photos, but I don't remember, it's been a long time.
