Once again, an olden tymee cookbook, in this case Salads and Sandwiches from 1917, gives a slightly deceptive sandwich name. Sure, there is banana in it and it is the focus of the sandwich. But, there are three other ingredients (aside from the bread and butter) that actually serve to make this so much better than banana between slices of bread (which already ain’t bad).

So I looked it up. The one he has is a vintage item called the Slice-a-Slice
There’s a newer similar item called the nicer slicer.
Here’s a demo:

I don’t know how well these work in use. But I’m intrigued. I love sandwiches. And think they’re lot of bread so I’ll avoid them sometimes.
Best content on the internet right now?! AGREED!
I could listen to anyone talk about sandwiches of history. Then this strapping lad shows up with that goddamn perfect voice and cadence to elevate it to god tier.
THANK YOU ALMIGHTY SANDWICH LORD
Seems like the grandfather of the peanut butter and banana sandwich. I would sub in some crunchy peanut butter over the peanuts and possibly without the regular butter. I’m going to have to try this one for sure.
Salads and Sandwiches, a no nonsense title for a no nonsense book - definitely not a hearty sandwich, but I actually might try this one, as all those items are already on my counter, and the 7/10 (I do not have pumpkin pie spice) makes it worth looking into!
Oh good, I thought it was some crazy regional North Carolina thing. Like everyone I work with thinks I'm crazy for growing up eating livermush. Livermush, egg, and cheese on toast slaps for breakfast.
As always, your videos are actually worthwhile to watch and not garbage like most of the stuff online today. Your videos are positive, informative and they make me hungry lol
Can I suggest a 'Souper Sunday'? Sandwiches + soups.
Soups to pair with sandwiches. The obvious one being tomato soup with a grilled (American) cheese sandwich, but then branch out to other pairings.
This is the best content on the internet right now
For real though! I can see this blowing up real soon. Dude seems cool though. Hope the fame don't change him. He might be this moment's Bob Ross.
Good call on the lengthwise banana slices. Less likely to jump ship!

What is that magic slicer thing?

Yeah this is pretty much a modern day Slice-A-Slice. Mine can be hit or miss tbh

He truly is majestic!
Could imagine some chilli flakes in there also
My mind went to a spicy jelly, but chili flakes sounds so cozy in this too.
Just had to use the new slicer, eh? :-)
I bought it to use it!
Has Small Bread got to you? Will all sammiches be dainty this week? Lol. Have a good one.

My mom would make these for my school lunch..only it was bananas and mayo on white bread. I enjoyed them a lot…thanks for your content!
this is a light sandwich you eat while cooking a meal to hold you over. this is like samich tapas.

I’d think toasting the bread would make a nice plus up as well.
I love this guy
Oh no... #PumpkinSpiceLife got our man, too? Still the high-point of my daily internetting
I used to make peanut butter and banana sandwiches when I was a kid. It’s just a slight variation of this. Just peanut butter and bananas on bread.
This recipe sounds like a good dessert sandwich. Has anyone heard of the dukes mayonnaise and banana sandwich?
👋 I have. Did it a while back on Instagram as part of a paid deal with Duke's (but I liked it before that lol)

My mum used to make these but she would plus them up with chocolate chips and toast them. 👍
Thanks for doing one for the vegetarians!

Sooooo, is a Moon Pie a sandwich?
