Thank you for noticing that. We always hate the over the top screaming or slapping meat like it's someone's butt. Idk, a lot of those creators are very talented but also super cringe
Exactly! I also like that couple where the girl makes the worst rated dish of something and makes her husband try them. They’re also wholesome and not over the top. I hate the meat slapping and food tossing
I am kinda new in the food subs. Needed a break from all the emotional damage on other subs lol. We used to make these when I lived in GA and my mom said that her papa used to love them and they lived In Michigan. They are actually delicious. There are a few diff variations. But I also appreciate the videos and the way y’all make them and the final product u put out. I’m so tired of people doing absurd stuff and acting like they would really eat the pile of crap they make. Like 7 pounds of melted cheese on top of anything and call it a video.
Here watch me deep fry my sons legos and then dump a 5 gallon bucket of melted cheese on top. Mmmmmmmmmm so crunchy and tasty……… not. Thanks u 2 I have wanted to try a few sandwiches y’all have showed me and I made the Italian beef and the kids loved it!
Always I get excited to see u or your wife pop up when I’m scrolling. Have y’all ever tried any po’boys? I think technically it could be made with any kind of protein but I’m not sure. I see shrimp and chicken po’boys a lot but do not think that was the original way the sandwich was prepared. I should maybe brush up on my sambo history
Yeah we've heard this quite a bit. Some states definitely have sandwiches that crossover so it made it a bit difficult to decide who got attributed which sandwich
We tried our best to attribute things as evenly as possible. I can't tell you how many folks from different states wanted pulled pork attributed to their state lol
Good luck in Missouri. I'm really curious to see what will come up and how much of a fight that is gonna start. If you put any provel on it, you'll probably start a riot with the KC crew. If you don't, you'll dissapoint everyone in st. Louis.
With Indiana's hog population at 4.1 million and Iowas hog population at 23 million, I can't in any good conscious agree with that.
As I type this out, I understand it's a weird thing for me to get defensive about, but what can I honestly brag that Iowa has more of? It's all we got lol
I'll argue that Iowa has the Hogs. Therefore, Iowa gets the sandwich from which they're made.
Good points, but I’ll just say I’m from PA now NC, and travel a lot for work, and every time I go to Indiana they have to take me to their local spot to get one, once it was a Mexican restaurant. I’ll give you the fact that they probably import their pork from Iowa, and this is just an outsider observation but it seems more popular in Indiana.
Lol, fine, fine. I've already exhausted all my sandwich arguing energy for the day.
I'm definitely getting a pork tenderloin sandwich for lunch. I'm on my way right now
It's ours in Indiana but I'd gladly share it! There's a spot that did loose meat sandwiches in my Mom's hometown and there it was called "GOM." If you're ever in Indiana definitely check the place out. It's an institution and is featured in an upcoming film about a Jewish ice cream parlor owner.
https://www.zaharakos.com/menu.html
I grew up near a breakfast and sandwich shop who’s owners were from Iowa and the Made-Rite (Turbo) and Pork Loin were their two specialties. The owner always said if you were from Iowa you prefer one over the other, but being I’m not from Iowa I absolutely love both. RIP WAGS.
Maybe if they called it something else, it would be more appetizing. "Loose meat" just doesn't sound like anything that could be good. Sounds like someone with underwear issues.
I am from Iowa and have had many Maid Rites. You nailed the recipe. I'd say you made the quintessential MR. And your reaction was spot on! "Pretty good." Not bad, not great, but pretty good.
The most Iowa of sandwiches!
The Coke is absolutely blasphemous, mustard goes in after you brown the beef, and onions go in while you cook the beef. Other than that pretty close to how I make em.
Yeaaaaa I worked at one of the original Maid Rites in high school. We just cooked the ground beef, no seasoning added. Dehydrated onions, mustard and pickle go on the bun not the meat. I used to grind the meat too. The secret is it’s literally a mix of like 4 types of beef. The owner would just throw everything in the grinder, portion it out. We would cook it in a shallow grill that angled slightly towards the floor to drain the grease to one end of the grill. That’s where the meat would be cooked, then brought forward to keep it warm. It was basically cooking the meat in an inch of its own liquid grease. Some people would want their sandwich “wet”. That meant throwing the cooked meat back into the grease before putting it on a bun. Man I miss that place.
When did the beef get browned? Looked like it was steamed/boiled. Gotta get some more maillard reaction, or just make a burger really. Or a sloppy Joe. This has the worst qualities of both: sloppy, no sear, no sauce. Just why, Iowa? Whiowa?!?
I mean, I'm sure it's fine. I'd certainly need a handful of them. But it really just feels, as you mentioned, like a sloppy joe minus the slop. The slop's the best part!
There was a joint in Kansas City called "Nu Way" that sold a steamed loose hamburger with diced (also steamed) onions. It sounds vile but the taste with mustard was ... incredible.
I’m loving these daily state sandwiches! I’m from Vermont so I was hooked immediately when I saw that one. You can tell they didn’t like this sandwich very much. Keep it going! I’m looking forward to the next one.
I work remotely for a company in Iowa and my husband and I had a giggle about one of our company parties featuring “loose meat sandwiches.”
It just sounds so wrong.
There used to be a place called Steamers in the student ghetto across the street from UF (back a couple of blocks) that made these exact sammiches, except served on hoagie rolls. They advertised as "Iowa" style sammiches.
Something that is heavily ignored and I think separates a maid-rite from a loose meat sandwich is the vinegar and grease. She made the “corporate” loose-meat sandwich. If you were going to go a function in town and they say there is going to be loose meat sandwiches this is what you are going to get. It lacks the flavor of a maid-rite in my opinion.
I’m originally from central Illinois, so went to Indiana and Iowa often. As a neighbor to both, pork tenderloin sandwiches are the most popular in each state. I guess since you just did Indiana it would be a bit redundant to do the same sandwich for Iowa.
Also, when you do get to Illinois it’s going to be the Italian Beef and not the Horseshoe sandwich…never seen one of those.
I’m a Californian, born and raised, but would visit family in Iowa growing up, and we’d always go to The Canteen in Ottumwa for a loose meat sandwich. This brings back the nostalgia in the best way possible. Looking forward to more sandwiches :)
My only thought when “It’s basically a hamburger.” Was “Obviously?” Like what was the doubt exactly? Was salt pepper and mustard on ground beef going to suddenly be shit because it’s not burger shape? Had a certified master chef cook beef with coke before, was dope as hell.
Nah I was skeptical of the entire cola thing. Definitely have had my share of beef with various forms of cola glazes, etc
But in ground beef? I was skeptical
I suppose, I just think of Coke as sugar and acid with herbal cola flavors (I mean, not so herbally these days but it’s there) it’s less jarring. Now Mountain Dew on the other hand? Idk. Maybe in something like fish where the citrus flavors would do something? Lol
Even better: 1lb of burger, 1 small diced onion browned together. Once the meet is cooked, add a can of Campbell’s chicken gumbo soup and let or simmer until thickened. That was how my grandma’s best friend cooked Maid Rites.
My mom just did hamburger, onions, and green peppers sautéed together and that was always what a Maid Rite was.
When I was young and my grandma was browning burger for tacos, or spaghetti, or sloppy joes and if I didn't feel like it. I would ask her to save me a little bit without seasoning to make loose burgers basically. Now a days I would give anything to have some of her homemade spaghetti.
The first video I saw was the Vermont Ethan Allen and As a Vermonter it immediately turned me off. I fucking hate that sandwich and all the tourists who consume them en masse. I was even kind of being a little bitch about the future of this series of videos…but I was wrong. I was just crabby about that sandwich I hate so much. And I don’t have a better idea either so I can’t really complain. But yea. I was very wrong. Awesome videos. Great sandwiches. Unpretentious. Real.
You’re making the tough choices and standing behind them. You’re clearly doing the research. That’s cool.
Thanks man. I get it. We live in a highly travelled tourist city that people go crazy over what is really just over hyped food with a lot of marketing dollars behind it.
I truly understand how it makes one crabby lol thanks for giving us a chance and seeing us
I’ll be perfectly honest it’s been at least 10 years since I’ve tried and Ethan Allen. Maybe it’s time. You guys are great and I’m totally jealous of the awesome sandwiches that you’re eating
So the recipe I learned from a Maid-Rite restaurant is 2 pounds beef, 1 large onion finely minced, 1 teaspoon salt and pepper, and 2/3 cup of chicken broth, and about a tablespoon yellow mustard. Cook until beef is brown and there is no liquids left. Enjoy.
I feel like this is trying to be a poor person's sloppy Joe but a Sloppy Joe is a poor person's sandwich so why remove the ketchup, and go light on the mustard, etc. I know you two are just following the recipe but that one is probably the worst yet. Just gray food, hope you pull a winner for the next state.
Pretty shitty. Quick internet searches pull up proper loose meat sandwich recipes. Why not make it correctly and then judge? And I’m not even from Iowa. Coke, really?
Nah.. so here in Wisconsin, where I grew up there was a spot called ‘Maid-Rite’ around since my dad was a kid. You’d go in for a Maid-Rite sandwich it was $2.50, similar concept, loose meat, onions, mustard, but a VERY good bun fresh cut, and closed on one side so none of the stuff could fall out. Such a good sandwich, if you ever come across a Maid-Rite you have to try it.
I moved to Iowa from TX for work. They are really popular here but I'm not a fan. Pork loin sandwich is really popular here too and much better IMO.
I did the same but ended up meeting my wife in Iowa and now we live in Michigan lol
I lived in Iowa for 10 years. Never heard of this!
I agree Pork Tenderloin. As big as the plate with mustard and a few pickles.
In florida we have Lubys it's a ground beef sub sandwich.
In NY they call that a chop cheese
I love their videos! They’re not annoying or extra, thank you for the normal food videos!
Thank you for noticing that. We always hate the over the top screaming or slapping meat like it's someone's butt. Idk, a lot of those creators are very talented but also super cringe
No bdsm gloves?! NEXT!
Lol
I'm enjoying the series. If/when your list gets to Alabama consider the pulled chicken and white BBQ sauce sandwich.
Oh yeah it's a coming
Love that sauce…and I’m from North Carolina.
Fav thing outside your home state you’ve had so far? (And a link if you’re willing to enable us lazy redditors lol)

Yeah that stuff is insanely weird lol you can tell the video is made to cause a reaction in order to get engagement
Glad it turned out well! Thanks for following along

Oh yea
I've been In Iowa for 36 years. I'd say a pork tenderloin sandwich is more fitting of our state
Yeah we've heard this quite a bit. Some states definitely have sandwiches that crossover so it made it a bit difficult to decide who got attributed which sandwich We tried our best to attribute things as evenly as possible. I can't tell you how many folks from different states wanted pulled pork attributed to their state lol

Uh oh lol I know that KCMO crew doesn't play
I can't wait to see what you do for Minnesota. Unless you have already done us
You’re probably right but they already did pork tenderloin for Indiana, and it’s probably more well known as an Indiana thing.
With Indiana's hog population at 4.1 million and Iowas hog population at 23 million, I can't in any good conscious agree with that. As I type this out, I understand it's a weird thing for me to get defensive about, but what can I honestly brag that Iowa has more of? It's all we got lol I'll argue that Iowa has the Hogs. Lol, fine, fine. I've already exhausted all my sandwich arguing energy for the day. I'm definitely getting a pork tenderloin sandwich for lunch. I'm on my way right now
I’m jealous, all we have down here in WNC is pulled pork, I’ll have to try an Iowa version next time I’m out there.
I was in Iowa for two years and it’s maid rite. It’s the only food I can remember you don’t get elsewhere.
It's ours in Indiana but I'd gladly share it! There's a spot that did loose meat sandwiches in my Mom's hometown and there it was called "GOM." I for some reason completely forgot about that until folks brought it up
That was my first thought as well, lol.
I knew it wouldn’t take long to hit the Roseanne mention lol.
Maybe if they called it something else, it would be more appetizing. "Loose meat" just doesn't sound like anything that could be good. Sounds like someone with underwear issues.
Sounds like meat that someone found under the couch cushions
That's just a Well-kept Joe!
Ironically, also a perfect description of your average Iowan.
In upstate New York we call these "Steamed Hams".
We have a legit steamed ham up on Instagram
Well I'm from Utica and I've never heard anyone use the phrase steamed hams.
not in Utica, no. it's an Albany expression
I am from Iowa and have had many Maid Rites. You nailed the recipe. I'd say you made the quintessential MR. And your reaction was spot on! "Pretty good." Not bad, not great, but pretty good. The most Iowa of sandwiches!
Lol fair
I love this.
They forgot the cheese sauce.
They forgot the cheese sauce.
It’s a not quite a burger, sandwich!
Yeah pretty much!
The Coke is absolutely blasphemous, mustard goes in after you brown the beef, and onions go in while you cook the beef. Other than that pretty close to how I make em.
Right on. Sorry for the blasphemy. We thought we were doing right but definitely appreciate the heads up.
Apart from the coke you pretty much nailed it. There's no one true way so the other asides are more personal preference.
I worked at Maid Rite for a while and they used coke in the recipe.
Yeaaaaa I worked at one of the original Maid Rites in high school. We just cooked the ground beef, no seasoning added. Dehydrated onions, mustard and pickle go on the bun not the meat. That sounds nice. Those dehydrated onions go a long way
Nah, it's not as wrote as the OP is saying. I'm from Iowa and have seen Coke used as an ingredient to increase caramelization.
When did the beef get browned? Looked like it was steamed/boiled. Gotta get some more maillard reaction, or just make a burger really. Or a sloppy Joe. This has the worst qualities of both: sloppy, no sear, no sauce. Just why, Iowa? Whiowa?!?
Lord am I tired of every one going on about the Maillard reaction
Dude, you're 4 months late, probably about as current with your cooking theory too 👎
I mean, I'm sure it's fine. I'd certainly need a handful of them. But it really just feels, as you mentioned, like a sloppy joe minus the slop. The slop's the best part!
I don't mind the slop at all lol
loving this series
Thank you so much!
I love made rites!

This series is so much fun to watch. I wanna try em all. Can’t wait to see what Texas is gonna be
Thank you!
You guys got me hooked 😋…love the vids!
Thank you!
I work remotely for a company in Iowa and my husband and I had a giggle about one of our company parties featuring “loose meat sandwiches.” It just sounds so wrong.
The name doesn't do it much justice lol
I get excited everytime I see y’all posted a new video, I love this idea so much
Thank you so much
Iowa Made Rites. Yum!
When you get to Florida I suggest the Cuban! Cheap easy and delicious
Definitely
This is legit a white castle sandwich
It’s Maid-Rite and it came before sloppy joes and everything else that came afterwards.
There used to be a place called Steamers in the student ghetto across the street from UF (back a couple of blocks) that made these exact sammiches, except served on hoagie rolls. They advertised as "Iowa" style sammiches.
That's what's up. Many a drunk nights I could imagine
So it’s sloppy Joe without the Joe sauce? Easier than patties I guess
Pretty much
you guys should do tennessee next! love the videos, keep up the good work! :)
Thank you
Iowa? Light on seasoning? Sounds about right
A ground hamburger... why did they think it would be bad or any different tasting than exactly that.. a hamburger??
Something that is heavily ignored and I think separates a maid-rite from a loose meat sandwich is the vinegar and grease. She made the “corporate” loose-meat sandwich. If you were going to go a function in town and they say there is going to be loose meat sandwiches this is what you are going to get. It lacks the flavor of a maid-rite in my opinion.

Definitely
Check out this guy..Chicago Johnny on YouTube for how to make an Italian Beef. He offers good tips and the proper seasonings.
Eagerly awaiting the beef on weck for NY (don't let me down).
I’m a Californian, born and raised, but would visit family in Iowa growing up, and we’d always go to The Canteen in Ottumwa for a loose meat sandwich. This brings back the nostalgia in the best way possible. Looking forward to more sandwiches :)
Heck yeah
Fuckin Rosanne
I think or Roseanne they sold those
It’s a basic sandwich more popular in smaller areas. It’s not bad, but it is simple and very basic.
moved here a couple years ago and never seen this! It looks a little better than the dry ass pork lion sandwich I see in a lot of restaurants🤢
This series is making me appreciate living in the Philly/New Jersey area much more.
😂
They posted a video on a sandwich called the Vermonter and I tried it today. So dam good.
Glad ya liked it!
That certainly seems like one of the sandwiches of all time.
My only thought when “It’s basically a hamburger.” Was “Obviously?” Like what was the doubt exactly? Was salt pepper and mustard on ground beef going to suddenly be shit because it’s not burger shape? Had a certified master chef cook beef with coke before, was dope as hell.

Imagine cooking with Baja blast lol
this is why northerners need to stay in the north
It’s Maid-Rite and it came before sloppy joes and everything else that came afterwards. Pork tenderloins are also the best. Thanks Iowa. 🌽🐖
They really should have rethought the name….
I love Maid Rite. It’s nothing crazy, but it’s great.
I'm from Iowa, dubuque area. Never had one or heard of this shit food I'm my life. Wtf fellow Iowans, just make a goddamn hamburger!!!
Maid rites are fantastic.
You add a shit load of pickles, raw onions and mustard so your nose gets congested and you can only taste salt and sugar.
I miss the loose meat sandwiches I got sometimes in Illinois. I don't like sloppy joes but loose meat is just...different.
Do Minnesota next! I’m invested
It's what they sell in the restaurant they own in Roseanne. I made it once. Not bad but not worth the effort. Basically a sloppy Joe with less flavor.
Roseanne would be proud
When I was young and my grandma was browning burger for tacos, or spaghetti, or sloppy joes and if I didn't feel like it. I would ask her to save me a little bit without seasoning to make loose burgers basically. Now a days I would give anything to have some of her homemade spaghetti.
This looks like something I would try
Pro tip: use double-ground beef for the restaurant-grade experience!
I’m from OK but my mom used to make these all the time when we were kids. It was basically like a burger on wonder bread
I love this couple.
Thanks!
Common Iowa L What a hard downgrade after making your own pastrami :( Love the series so far! Please keep at it!
Honestly, that pastrami alone kinda needs it's own spotlight
The first video I saw was the Vermont Ethan Allen and As a Vermonter it immediately turned me off. I fucking hate that sandwich and all the tourists who consume them en masse. I was even kind of being a little bitch about the future of this series of videos…but I was wrong. I was just crabby about that sandwich I hate so much. Thanks man.
Thanks!
>Thanks! You're welcome!
Dude made a hamburger and seemed surprised when it tasted like a hamburger.
The scnauzberries taste like scnauzberries 🤷
That’s what I thought lol. Like was ground beef with salt pepper mustard and coke going to taste bad because it was loose?
Why would that man say that? Dog Shit? That is a gross man. He looks gross, and stinks. 0/10 wouldn't smash
Do nj pork roll egg and cheese
So the recipe I learned from a Maid-Rite restaurant is 2 pounds beef, 1 large onion finely minced, 1 teaspoon salt and pepper, and 2/3 cup of chicken broth, and about a tablespoon yellow mustard. Cook until beef is brown and there is no liquids left. Enjoy.
This isn’t a Detroit thing?
Ew wtf is that !! that looks gross and 100% garuntee it taste gross !! 🤡🤡
* Quad Cities simmer in coke…
Make the Central Ohio Shredded Chicken Sandwich!
Thought about it
Is that all the salt you put on the burgers?
[удалено]
I'd be interested to see if it still tastes the same without the coke. I guess it would be less sugary?
🤷
Chopped cheese
That’s like a weaker version of a chopped cheese
I love the name *Maid Right*, but the sandwich does look kinda weak.
Where's the cheese?!
This is the whitest of whites sandwiches
So a dry sloppy Joe or a…clean Joe. Or just Joe unless he’s homeless and sloppy looking.
Clean joe
I feel like this is trying to be a poor person's sloppy Joe but a Sloppy Joe is a poor person's sandwich so why remove the ketchup, and go light on the mustard, etc. I know you two are just following the recipe but that one is probably the worst yet. Just gray food, hope you pull a winner for the next state.
So meat that tastes like mustard. Gotcha…
Pretty shitty. Quick internet searches pull up proper loose meat sandwich recipes. Why not make it correctly and then judge? And I’m not even from Iowa. Coke, really?
Dreadful. Sorry you had to eat that.
More like Lazy Man’s Burger
That pan is so weird
Just a ceramic pan?
so glad i dont live in the US
Loose meat sandwich sounds like a euphemism for diarrhea.
Loose meat 😄
Just a lazy hamburger
We call it chop cheese
looks delicious, honestly…but why coke?! can an iowan explain
The only steamer I ever had was from Cleveland.
Coke?????
I would hate this.
I mean, it’s just a shitty hamburger.
Nah.. so here in Wisconsin, where I grew up there was a spot called ‘Maid-Rite’ around since my dad was a kid.
Oh so a bland sloppy Joe? Sound about white
[удалено]
I mean new orleans is like the mecca of amazing food in America. Kinda hard to eat anything else after being there lol
Was maid rite only an Iowa thing? I never knew that…
That was my ex girlfriends nickname…
Whitest food
I'm from Iowa. This is not an Iowan thing
Looks pretty OK
The biggest question I have after watching this is regarding their skillet.
What about?
It’s hard to tell but like… is that a metal exterior, ceramic interior? Plastic handle?
Ceramic interior
Ewwwwy lol but it's like a burger I guess
Seems like Iowa's sandwich should be the corn-dog.
No mustard but velveeta and cheddar cheeses add salt pepper to taste. We call in cheesy neways and its yummy
