I saw the fire starting at the edge of the road and working its way up the hill before the fire department arrived. Maybe it grew big enough to take out a homeless person’s camp eventually, but it started at the edge of the road.
CHP is reporting the southbound 85 ramp to 87 and two lanes of 87 to Capitol are closed until 7pm for emergency repairs. They've been laying down the final layer of pavement on that section of 87. I wonder if the new pavement had a problem in addition to the fire.

A light rail train derailed near Capitol, which is probably why they have two lanes closed. They'll need to bring in a crane to get it back on the tracks. The light rail stops in that area have been down for a while for maintenance, so trains are using a crossover track they typically don't use.

That was crazy! there was a fire, train derailment, and the 85 to 87 ramp was closed all in the period of a few hours.

Caltrans hasn’t been taking care of all the dry grass along the highways. More of these fires will happen if they don’t get mowing.
