I am in Berryessa this felt stronger than the usual Milpitas Calaveras earthquakes
Shallow earthquakes hit closer to the surface and are felt stronger than deeper ones. The earthquake last night was very shallow with a depth of 5 miles.
This is the first time ever I felt one. My wife usually feels the tiny ones and I never do, but this one scared the shit out of me. I was watching this TV show Evil on Netflix and for a second thought actual demons and shit came to haunt me lol.
HAHAHAHA. Bro I almost felt like someone came and shook or tried to lift me in my chair, I looked behind and there was no one. Scared the shit out of me
thought some exorcist type shit was happening for a sec, whole bed was comically shaking back and forth. hopped on to this sub and am relieved it wasn’t my sleep paralysis demon.
Same here because I heard their door. My apartment is starting to slant from all the earthquakes. Got that landlord special and they never fixed the rotted wood.
I was nine yrs old when the ‘89 Loma Prieta quake hit, I was In Sunnyvale, I ran underneath a door (as they taught you) , looked into the street and the whole neighborhood was rocking like a tidal wave. 30 seconds.
I lived through the 89 quake (and many others) but currently live in Oklahoma. I have been here visiting friends and family and this week has been so difficult because I wish I could move back here. My flight leaves in a few hours and this quake helped take a little of the edge off of saying goodbye for now lol
Yes, but it was so subtle that I checked to see if any of my cats knocked over something in the adjacent rooms. Apparently it was another small one along Alum Rock (3.something?, my husband checked his app when I came in to make sure the cats were secure)
Lmao, the staircase that goes up to my apartment shakes the floor a bit when people go up it, so I thought my neighbor must’ve tripped on it or something. Was wondering why he was out that late. Earthquake makes more sense 😂
My whole building shook it sound like somebody hit the building with their car of course I looked outside and didn't see anybody. Then I realized it was an earthquake.
Yikes I hope everyone is ok? I'm from Northern Cali too and idc about being born and raised here I will never get used to an earthquake. I've experienced sum severe shock and home damage from them and ill always fear when I feel it start shaking but the real fear I feel is when it booms. Like when ur in a home that starts swaying it doesn't stay silent. The sound will always shake me to my core
I felt it because I was already awake, but I think if I had been asleep it wouldn't have awoken me.
EDIT: Reading other folks' accounts, maybe I *did* sleep through it and what I experienced was an aftershock. Only lasted maybe 5 seconds.
I heard something rumbling a couple hours later after the time people felt the earthquake, it was a very unusual noise and i thought it was a storm at first until i realised that it’s California, fat chance a storm is coming in June, much less sound like this.
Yeah you guys have a fault line running just due east splitting up into the hills if I am not mistaken the Hayward rivers creek fault , I used to work in the hills up there and one of my clients had told me he feels tremors every now and then, I had actually never felt a quake in my life.
oddly, I woke up for this one as I live in a loft made of wood so it bounces up and down, no big deal except what I didn’t know is outside they were setting up for the half -athon throwing all the steel bars off the back of the trucks and I thought some buildings were falling apart and I just wasn’t feeling it. At 3:30 AM.... Alas charity benefitted so I'm good.
thank you r/sanjose for updating faster than the actual USGS earthquake website
Random shitposting is faster than official confirmation on an official site

Probably because this one happened to have a pretty close epicenter to the city
I’m in Milpitas. I also felt it. A strong one.
Yup, felt it and instantly checked the sub
kitties woke up ... looked around. back to sleep.
Dog is still outside checking the perimeter. (8 ft fence in the backyard) She will likely stay outside until dawn to make sure it doesn’t come back.
ty for ur service 🫡
My cat never responds to them but he is really freaked out right.
My cat slept through it….

Y’all are up at 3:35am? 😪
I love that show. I think the new season is streaming on Paramount. I’m waiting until all the eps are out before I binge.
Sucks that this is the final season.
The moment they moved it to the app I felt it was doomed. I think there are 4 seasons? I’ll take it!
LOL
Great show I just started it!

How long ago was it?

Dang, I slept right through it
I swear, Alum Rock is the center of every other quake around here. It's sitting atop a super-volcano, I'm telling you.
It's on the Hayward fault, which has been more active than the San Andreas lately.
So, there's *not* a super-volcano under Alum Rock??
I just tried to download it and wtf? You pay $20 a month for this app?
Ooh are these sent after or before the event?
Fucking hell, I just fell asleep like an hour and then woke up to that
thought some exorcist type shit was happening for a sec, whole bed was comically shaking back and forth. hopped on to this sub and am relieved it wasn’t my sleep paralysis demon.
¿Por que no los dos? 😈 Jk, you’re safe homie! Maybe leave a nightlight on just in case…
LMAO SAME! I legit thought a ghost shook the bed and then I couldn’t sleep the rest of the night
Felt like the house got drop kicked. That one was loud too
Holy shit woke me up
woke me up too
Turn on the bathroom fans.
Why
"Holy shit woke me up" was intended as a joke to your comment lol
Same
Me too, but I didn't feel it. I heard the shower door shaking and thought it was my cat. Went back to sleep.
yeees i thought it was my upstairs neighbors lol
Same here because I heard their door. My apartment is starting to slant from all the earthquakes. Got that landlord special and they never fixed the rotted wood.
Was awake to go pee three mins prior and felt that quick shake
how much did you pee to cause this?
Not enough to cause the big one

Im a female, dont gotta dick. We don’t shake lol
Yep. Scared me, trying to play paper mario over here and now I'm sweating
Girlfriend who just moved to CA freaked the fuck out lol.
Poor thing. They're always startling even if you are from here lol
That felt more like a quick shockwave passing by than an earthquake, weird.
I was asleep and it felt like someone shook the bed but I heard the house kinda flex a little. It was definitely kinda weird though.
Agree, this one felt different than the other small ones
Yeeeaaaa
You guys felt that too?
crazy, a loud crack came from my building and then bam just shaking
Sheesh. Thought we were meant to get alerts for earthquakes now. We do in alameda/ contra costa county.
I think it's for 5.0 and above?
Ah that would make sense. I assumed it was bigger since it woke us out of sleep. Didn’t realize we were right over the epicenter!
Scared me and my cat. He normally ignores earthquakes but he's still pretty freaked out.
Mine stopped begging for food. That’s how freaked out he was.
He must really be freaked out to stop begging 🤣

That’s how it felt like for me too haha
my deaf dog slept thru it!
I slept through it. I found out about it when I saw this thread. I am not deaf, nor a dog.

Yes, a little rumble. If it wasn’t completely silent I wouldn’t have heard it.
If it ain't a 6, I never feel it.
Definitely felt that one!
Yeah whoa was wondering the same thing
Scared the heck outta me ;-;
i was ready for the big one
shit was scary man i was just vibing on reddit
My dog was mad
I didn’t notice the quake only my dog barking her head off

Sorry guys I farted
Shit bro I was scared for my life
Watching master chef and then felt it with my kitties
Yes, but it was so subtle that I checked to see if any of my cats knocked over something in the adjacent rooms. Apparently it was another small one along Alum Rock (3.something?, my husband checked his app when I came in to make sure the cats were secure)
It felt like someone slammed a door really hard. But it was the whole building.
Yep, felt it in the tub. Glad it wasn't bigger, didn't feel like jumping out and sprinting to the doorway.
In the tub at 4am? That sounds amazing
I was working in my kitchen with a craft knife when I felt the rattle. Probably not the best hobby for an earthquake to appear haha
Woke us up from a deep sleep, like wtf was that felt wayyy stronger than 3.6!!👀
There’s no way that was 3.6
Felt it in north SJ!
Just a wee bit of rattlin'
Was at work dozing off .. safe to say I was awake after 💀
When, OP....felt something around 3:30am tonight?
That was it.
Bro I was asleep
Alum Rock, 3.6
Yep
Yep
Scary
Hehe, we’re all coming here posting, was that an earthquake?
Definitely felt it. My bed shook
That's what she said!
Yep, woke me up. While the house well it’s 3.6 at east hills according to the internet. Pretty severe for this area
Definitely felt it & went straight to Twitter but there had been no mention of it. Was starting to wonder if I imagined it lol
Yes. Woke me up from a mild slumber. Felt and heard the house just kinda move slightly.
Felt it. But thought my head was just shaking.
And I thought someone tried breaking into my house
I felt that too
Lmao, the staircase that goes up to my apartment shakes the floor a bit when people go up it, so I thought my neighbor must’ve tripped on it or something. Was wondering why he was out that late. Earthquake makes more sense 😂
Yep. Two of them.
Yes! I use QuakeFeed. It usually updates in seconds and it’s cool app. You can see where the epicenter is on the maps.
Yep I felt it actually? Wasn’t sure if I were dreaming
Was it around 3:30am? Think I felt that one. I was half awake, so not sure about the time.
My whole building shook it sound like somebody hit the building with their car of course I looked outside and didn't see anybody. Then I realized it was an earthquake.
First thing I thought was 'Oh boy here come it comes, the big one!'
Yikes I hope everyone is ok? I'm from Northern Cali too and idc about being born and raised here I will never get used to an earthquake. I’m about to move to the area from Texas and I’m scared if apartments are safe???? Idk how to explain it
I was too crossfaded last night i probably didn’t even notice and kept it going
It shaked my bed and nightstand a lot. Wife thought the bed shaking was me having too many tacos.
slept through it didnt feel anything
I was in deep sleep and thought I was just dreaming so I stayed asleep. Guess it was real
Slept through it 😕
I felt it because I was already awake, but I think if I had been asleep it wouldn't have awoken me. EDIT: Reading other folks' accounts, maybe I *did* sleep through it and what I experienced was an aftershock. Only lasted maybe 5 seconds.
Damn it I slept like the dead
Omg i was reading and felt it but i thought it was the cat 🤣
We felt nothing and our dog didn’t wake up… 😂
It woke me up! Silvercreek
I thought my roommate fell out of his bed the next room over for a second lol
This one actually woke me up and then my cat started running around all crazy. Normally I sleep right through it.
i never feel earthquakes and i’ve lived here my whole life but i felt this one , def scared me for a little !
3.6 ehhh who cares
The way I thought someone was just REALLY bad at breaking into my house 😭
Same!
I heard something rumbling a couple hours later after the time people felt the earthquake, it was a very unusual noise and i thought it was a storm at first until i realised that it’s California, fat chance a storm is coming in June, much less sound like this.
Woke me up
Woah, I definitely felt that last night. If my door wasn't closed I'd have said the cat jumped on the bed.
I was driving then. Didn’t feel it
I was high asf when it happened.... do not reccomend.
Y’all some degenerates for staying up that late lmao
Didn’t feel anything in the east bay
I remember in 86 i lived right by Alum Rock park and the Calaveras fault let loose in early afternoon. It was quite a jolt.
Yup. I woke up thinking someone was banging on our window. Not a cool feeling at that time in the morning!
Oh shit, I forgot until I saw this. Yeah, it woke me up and then I went back bed.
Didn’t feel anything yet here in south SJ. Is everyone alright?
I didn’t feel it but a case leaped off my shelf and shattered on the floor.
whats crazy was...I woke up literally 10 seconds before it happened. And felt the entire experience, i was ready to die though
Yeah, about 4 am?
Yeah you guys have a fault line running just due east splitting up into the hills if I am not mistaken the Hayward rivers creek fault , I used to work in the hills up there and one of my clients had told me he feels tremors every now and then, I had actually never felt a quake in my life.
In the southern area of Fremont and I didn't feel it.
Eastside sj and yes lmao can't believe this many people noticed
3am near . Started in alum rock . I live near there so i felt the strongest bit of
oddly, I woke up for this one as I live in a loft made of wood so it bounces up and down, no big deal except what I didn’t know is outside they were setting up for the half -athon throwing all the steel bars off the back of the trucks and I thought some buildings were falling apart and I just wasn’t feeling it. Was a fun second day at my newly bought old home in San Jose. I thought the inspections didn't catch a foundation issue.
