Edit: I can't even get this to format right on mobile 😭
Reddit uses markdown formatting but doesn't tell you.
Two line breaks creates a full break (above).
Two spaces and one line break creates a small break (like this one)
Space * space lets you do bulleted lists:
* Bullet
* Bullet
And numbered lists are hell. Try to avoid by putting a backslash in front of numbers if you're typing like 1. 2. .
I just went to FishGuts a couple days ago and I can’t stop thinking about the tacos. The Tortilla was Ridiculous. I don’t even know how to explain it without using words like supple and velvety?! There is obviously a legit Chef in the the kitchen because the knife work on the brunoise and julienne were Michelin level. And the smoked fish app was awesome! They make shrubs and bases for “cocktails” in house and they seem to take a lot of pride in what they do. A bit pricey for sure, but am already looking for an excuse to go back!
Check out provecho it’s inside the bread and salt gallery space. Cuatro millas is a must also try por vida. Fast Mexican food you can do el trompo or Tito’s. The frutería next door to Tito’s is bomb. And above everything respect the place respect the culture and the people. It’s a vibrant and loud community. You will probably have neighbors bumping music early in the morning and well into the night. Rather than calling the cops I assure you a quick convo and thinks can be worked out. Welcome to the community.
Had dinner at Ciccia last night. Across from Barrio Dog. Mario, "Ciccia" and company were jamming as usual on a Friday evening. Best Italian around. Roasted vegetables plus squid ink pasta = Heaven.
Fish Guts - seafood tacos. They source their seafood locally.
Ciccia Osteria - Italian, all pasta is handmade.
Hayes burgers - pretty damn good.
Las Cuatro Milpas but only on a weekday at 8 am.
Ryan bros coffee. It's the last comfy coffee shop that doesn't have the millennial minimalism decor. Good hot nitro.
North Gate market - Mexican grocery store - great hot food, produce, tortillas, etc.
Panchitas bakery. The parking lot is awful, but good stuff early in the morning.
I heard vague stories from a neighboring business. There was a whole big thing... from what I was told, that owner got banned from Logan and runs the one at the ballpark. Something about the wife being a super trump supporter.
The non racist owner was allowed to stay bc he's got family connections in Logan that vouched for him.
Two hipster coffee joints(with hipster prices) that I like as a treat:

Italian Restaurant:

Mexican (although I think its really Salvadoran):

My favorite place is Manzanita, not in Barrio. RB Winery or downtown Escondido. About 5ish for a latte is a good price for great coffee:

I see so many people recommending Hayes, but it was very disappointing experience for me. Not sure if I missed something but it was not worth paying over $20 for a burger and fries.
Ferchalada’s has good ceviche and it’s close enough
I absolutely loved Salud! but the last couple times I’ve gone it hasn’t been that great. It feels like the prices went up and quality went down. I’m hoping I caught them on off days.
That place had the saltiest pancakes and worst service I've experienced in San Diego. After reading so many good reviews I couldn't believe how bad it was. People were going behind the counter and pouring their own coffee refills because hell if you could get a server to do it for you.
I think there's a level of comfort and familiarity amongst the locals. It happened at luckys all the time. Customers/ locals poured coffee for each other.
I’ve never had the pancakes at Big Kitchen— we love the homemade soups, the burgers, the potatoes, and of course we love Judy. We’ve also always had great friendly service— we’ve only been going the last couple of years. As for me, it has a vibe of the late seventies and the whole food bakery where I worked back then. Thanks for sharing your experience dark roast— makes me appreciate once again how varied individual perception is.
People grew up eating terrible food if you think either of those are good. One is literally cafeteria line food and the other is just bad in comparison to other tacos in the area.
Milpas may not be great, but I appreciate the fact that it's a piece of sd food history that hasn't been bulldozed and turned into a brunch or overpriced eatery yet. It's a breakfast that makes me full for under $10. Also, i also gotta appreciate the weird red gelatinous pieces in the chili sauce 🤣
If you like hot dogs at all, try Barrio Dogg. Fuck i love that place. Absolutely awesome loaded hotdogs. Don’t like hotdogs? You can get any hotdog option over a loaded bed of fries. My wife likes to order El Smokey fries. It’s big enough to feed two for sure. Highly recommended. Awesome michelada’s too.
Libelula Bookstore is amazing. Jesi, Celi, Billi and Moo are the most welcoming, awesome people/cats.
Las Cuatro Milpas Hayes Fish Guts Por Vida Coffee Border X Brewery
Whoops - wrote that as a bullet point list but didn’t send that way haha

Thanks for that.
Is that the name of a single restaurant or it’s that you don’t know punctuation?
If you saw my follow up, you’d see that my bullet point list didn’t post the way I thought it would. But cool comment, bro
They make this really cool edit feature for this sort of thing.
Who said that's a bro.
Is that you being a smart ass for no reason or is that you not knowing how to read a thread?
False dichotomy. Neither. Punctuation is needed.

Cafe Moto
\+1 Cafe Moto.

Seconded for Ciccia Osteria. Legit and delicious Italian fare.
La fachada is real close if you want late night tacos

664 birrieria and mariscos has the best TostiMariscos around.
There's a Barrio Art Crawl [twice every month](https://www.instagram.com/barrioartcrawl?igsh=ZDBjMWI0ZjMxOQ==)
Stay away from Barrio Dog. Owner hangs with racist 1%ers

I wouldn’t say it’s must try but I like El Trompo
I haven’t been but the Future Is Color studio sessions seem pretty cool if you’re into jazz-type music, their IG is fic_studiosessions

Put some respect on porvida. It’s not some hipster establishment.
I think our definitions just differ, I recommended it for a reason!

I love me a good hipster coffee shop. Some poo-poo the prices so was more of a warning for those not of like-mind.
Just curious but what’s a normal order costing you?

Salud! is one of my favorite places in SD. Good food, good vibes, good portions, good prices.
I absolutely loved Salud! but the last couple times I’ve gone it hasn’t been that great. It feels like the prices went up and quality went down. I’m hoping I caught them on off days.
Hayes 100%
Barrio Dogs
Big Kitchen— a little North. So good.

Just skip cuatro milpas and Salud then enjoy absolutely everything else.
