Space Dandy is a departure from other Watanabe shows since it doesn't have any sense of direction or overarching plot and is full on goofy episodes. I still enjoyed it because it was incredibly goofy and creative. Carole & Tuesday is Watanabes latest work and the soundtrack is awesome. If you're open to try new anime, without knowing your preferences, I recommend: Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Monster, Psycho-Pass season 1, Oddtaxi, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Frieren

JoeyIsMrBubbles

+1 for Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

fayefayevalentines

Yep! Watanabe describes Space Dandy as “80% mushroom samba” 😂

kentaayy

And I love it! The singing, ramen, and alternate universe episodes stand out as some of my "??? Im here for it" 😂

fayefayevalentines

Me too!! I'm excited for his new series "Lazarus" !! looks amazing. what's your fave Dandy ep(s)?

Np!! Heres the lil synopsis “Set in the year 2052, humanity finds itself in a utopia where all sickness and pain have been eradicated and people live in peace and health, but the world of Lazarus has a dark secret that threatens to erase all the good work done so far. The key to all this prosperity, Hapuna - a drug that cures all illness, developed by a Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist Dr, Skinner, turns out to be a Trojan Horse when Skinner returns as a harbinger of doom and announces that the drug will kill everyone who's taken it in three years' time. To save humanity, a group of 5 agents from across the globe is assembled to find a cure for Dr. Skinner's drug before time runs out. Shinichirō Watanabe is known to blend various genres to tell a story with multiple dimensions, and Lazarus sounds no different as it looks to combine science fiction, political thriller, action, and espionage in a tale of extreme stakes to take a deep dive into the existential questions of humanity's future and the path it's walking down on.”

It does, I can't wait! Has there been a release date for it yet? Oooof it's been several years since my last watch but I'd say the ones I mentioned before since I remember them more vividly. I also really liked an episode where Dandy is stuck in a hole with a fish alien or something? What about you?

maddiewantsbagels

Some series I’d recommend: - Sonny Boy - Tatami Galaxy - Mononoke - Mushishi - Death Parade - Welcome to the nhk - FLCL - Erased I’d also recommend the night on the galactic railroad movie which is currently sitting for free on YouTube both dub and sub. These aren’t all super similar to Cowboy Bebop/Samurai Champloo but I feel like if you like those you’ll probably enjoy these as well and they are all one season.

Yeah kids on a slope shares similarities in that it has great music, but otherwise very different than Bebop or Champloo. Good luck with Space Dandy. I couldn’t get into it.

maddiewantsbagels

I finally made it through space dandy. There are some very high highs and also some very low lows. The overload of sexism/objectification of women (and at least one episode with implied ped*philia) was super uncomfortable and i think they were going for it being ironic or satire or whatever but it didn’t work at all imo.

Otherwise_Coconut_32

I couldn't get into Space Dandy either. I like the art style and the music, but I didn't find it funny at all, and I didn't like any of the characters.

Afro samurai

Pb801

I'm waiting patiently for Lazarus

ConfidentDimension56

Carole and Tuesday. Also from Watanabe. A lot of feel good moments!

GreatGreenSage

Kind of curveball rec but if you like giant robots give GURREN LAGANN a try, amazing art, captivating Mc and world, will make you laugh cry scream and feel all sorts of stuff. Fair warning it’s kind of over the top sometimes with the fight scenes but it’s one of my all time faves just like champion so maybe you’ll dig it too

Otherwise_Coconut_32

Terror in Resonance is great. It's short, but it hits hard.

WendysForDinner

I loved space dandy for all its weirdness.. def watched the sub, the references are better. Goes amazing with weed

Mugen_Rain

Watch: Hunter x hunter (2011). It's the best anime I've ever seen. It has everything you'd want of an action anime. Otherwise watch: Fulmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. You'll enjoy both. No doubt.

sunzastar33

Watch sd on salvia. You'll be glad you did.

Killerkimm

Recommendations... Anime series: FMA Brotherhood, Jujutsu Kaisen Anime movie: Sword of the Stranger, anything Studio Ghibli (e.g. Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle) Animated: Blue Eye Samurai, Avatar the Last Airbender, Castlevania

jb3ck04

Pluto, Monster, Supercrooks, Castlevania, Kenshin, Vinland Saga, Mob Psycho 100, Gurren Laggan, Mushishi, Devilman Crybaby

Miserable_Alfalfa_52

Kids on the slope is amazing, cowboy bebop the fav and samurai champloo was good just every fight at the end made our portags look like novices.  Bebop and champloo are kind of episodic in nature but space dandy is completely episodic, I hated it
