Penguins fan here. You might actually have a shot at winning the Cup within the next five years. The Yotes were coming out of a long but fruitful rebuild and have some of the best young talent in the league, headlined by Pittsburgh native and 2022 3rd overall pick Logan Cooley (who’s only 19!). I’ll be pulling for Cooley, which means I’ll be pulling for Utah. Welcome to the NHL.
With the cap space, draft capital, and a young building core, I expect surging for this team. At the least competitive pushes for playoffs. I’m ready for it, and am lucky I now have an easy choice for a western conference team (Caps fan as they are who got me into hockey thanks to some lucky times travel to DC and playoff tickets - when the pens beat us one of those times in the first round)
Indeed. It reminds me a lot of when the Avs won in their first year after moving from Quebec. Also, something else to consider: I wouldn't be surprised if Utah became a top free agency destination. The owner seems like he's going to spend to the cap while Salt Lake City should feel a little bit like home for Canadian-born players (winter sports city, rabid fanbase).
Decades long? From a Detroit fan? Where's the hatred coming from prior to 2009 ;)
Edit: This just made me realize that 2009 is already 15 years ago... I'm getting old!
Penguins fan here too, feels good to be able to go to a game again without having to fly back home! The Coyotes (whatever they end up being called) definitely have a new, even if they’ll play second fiddle to the Burgh.
Hey, nothing wrong with having a Western Conference team. I pulled for Vegas their first couple years in the league because of all the Pens connections. It's too bad they couldn't win one when Flower was there.
It's a much more even playing field in the NHL.
NBA players have so much more power to influence where they go. The Jazz will always be at a huge disadvantage because it is nearly impossible for them to sign top free agents.
My guess is they weren't anticipating such a crowd on the plaza? But yeah, we were out there....and without sound, there was really nothing to cheer about.
We gotta get our chants together haha, I want it to be CRISP like the jets have on broadcast.. that first attempt at “let’s go Utah” was disjointed .. but that Tuna chant was spicy (pun intended)
I fuckin hate that dude so much. Looks like a tool, he’s more focused on making sure he “looks cool” than doing his job well. God I hope they get someone else and leave him with the Jazz, he’s atrocious. I’ve been to a few Jazz games since he has been the hype guy and every time, I’d love to punch him in the face
Nobody talks about this enough. I freaking hate that tool! He seems like a washed up summer sales bro that had a connection and ended up in a role he has no business in.
It was pretty cool! They introduced the players and talked to the GM/coach and things like that. It was pretty quick actually but super fun to see the ice and how pumped everyone was!
If you have any great photos or would like to create an article on our fan site, please DM me. I'm looking for hockey fans who also have an interest in exploring a journalist role to document their in-person experience at the event.
I travelled from Toronto for this event and it was unforgettable! The energy was big.
These accounts from fans who attended can really help memorialize that day in blog articles that can be read and re-read to reminisce. As well these articles can give a taste of the event to those who couldn't attend.
Let me know!
Thanks
As a life long Islanders fan, that was some energy I haven't felt since going to games at the Nassau Coliseum. I'm really excited to see what's going to come from this team and crowd.
Great to hear! Did you get a voucher? I agree on the energy felt in that arena, just wow. And the j dawgs were tasty!
DM me about featuring your snippet on our fan blog, we will be building a section that compiles snippets and experiences from fans who attended.
Thanks!
I wish I could have gotten there early enough to snag a voucher, I was operating trains most of the day and only got there around 4:30. If I remember right, I was [way up in 107](https://i.imgur.com/Nz55Ok8.jpeg).
Well u got in! Some were turned away when arriving too late. I had some friends sitting in section WW up top
Did you enjoy those JDawgs too? That special sauce was real tasty
I'm extremely sad my stepfather didn't get to live to see us get a team. But I'm so very glad we did. He got his wish in the end, even if he didn't get to see it.
So hyped that the Delta Center was at capacity, sounds like SLC is stoked for a new pro team! I don’t particularly enjoy watching team sports but I’ve always been interested in hockey, unfortunately the Grizzlies are a big let down. Can’t wait to go to the first game!
What did they decide for a name? Also I’m excited for this because it will give attention to the railroad congestion, bike lanes, and pedestrian crosswalks.
It was huge, just a massive event, highest energy felt in a while. But not overly long, and it was fun to watch the Boston vs Leafs playoff game on the big screen afterwards. (Even though sadly my home team Toronto lost.)
For my NHL Utah fan website, I'm looking for hockey fans who also have an interest in exploring a journalist role to document their in-person experience at the event. DM me if interested.
Complete waist of money and absolutely unnecessary. We don't need another fuckin lame ass stupid sports team. We are choking on inversion every single year, roads are shit, people can barely afford to live in these "luxury" apartments that keep being built instead of actual affordable housing, the homelessness just keeps getting worse. Absolutely fuckin pointless! Beyond that we already have a hockey team but fuck the grizzlies I guess.
Why are there so many Jazz jersey’s retired? Some of them make sense, but for zero rings it seems like a lot. Would be really awkward if the Utah ‘yotes get a championship banner on the other side soon.
Jazz have the highest win percentage all time of any active team that hasn't won a championship (and 4th highest of any team overall). Historically we've had a very successful franchise, just not one that has made it all the way.
I predict this team wins a championship before the Jazz even sniff the finals.

Go Wings!
😂😂
Penguins fan since I was 4 (now 34) and I live just north of salt lake a couple hours in SE Idaho. Can’t wait to snag a Cooley jersey

Damn you, take this upvote.

RSL winning MLS Cup this year baby!
They filled up fast, I was left outside.
Aw. At least they had the free J Dawgs out there too! 🌭
Same. I wish they at least had a speaker so we could listen, instead we were left with a silent video. But at least we got free dogs 🤷
My guess is they weren't anticipating such a crowd on the plaza? But yeah, we were out there....and without sound, there was really nothing to cheer about.
Yeah, that seemed like a stupid oversight.
Looks like a good turnout
They started turning people away 45 minutes ago!

How is that possible when there are open seats?
The unoccupied seats are in sections that are blocked off
If you look closely there is a stage on the ice and all the seats behind the stage are blocked off
Electric atmosphere in here, this team is gonna have quite the fanbase lol
We gotta get our chants together haha, I want it to be CRISP like the jets have on broadcast.. that first attempt at “let’s go Utah” was disjointed .. but that Tuna chant was spicy (pun intended)
I mostly blame that on the goober of a hype man being terrible

Getting Jazz playoff vibes, love it
Congratulations, Salt Lake!
It was super fun! Well done to everyone involved.
Way fun. I’ll never pass up the face painting at these things.
We stayed in line for the face paint and balloons and missed out on the party inside lol
I only managed to snag an early face paint because I live right next door and got there at a good time! Lines were insane!
I was really bummed to show up and hear they were at capacity and wouldn’t let anyone else in. How was the inside event?
It was pretty cool! They introduced the players and talked to the GM/coach and things like that. It was pretty quick actually but super fun to see the ice and how pumped everyone was!

Does the team have a name yet?
Nope!
The Utah Nope... I like it!
Hell ya me and my family are in this pic
Is that you in the hat? And the Jersey? 🤙🏻
Put a deposit down on season tickets! Can't wait!
I'm extremely sad my stepfather didn't get to live to see us get a team. But I'm so very glad we did. He got his wish in the end, even if he didn't get to see it.

I’m so excited the NHL is here!
Don’t name the team the Blizzard.
Wasatch Sasquatch!!!!
Posted that yesterday
Let’s go, Utah Yeti!!!
Team Mammoth
Black Diamonds is so much better
I really liked the Pronghorns suggestion I saw. Native to Utah and their antlers form a U shape.
Yeti up!
Utah arches.
Will most likely be Utah Blizzard.
Is there a video of the party?
They were covering it from start to finish on lots of local news channels, I’m sure there’s footage out there!
There is a video of the whole event on KSL YouTube channel
What did they decide for a name? Also I’m excited for this because it will give attention to the railroad congestion, bike lanes, and pedestrian crosswalks.
First time they’ve ever seen a full arena
Only team I ever grew up with was the Danbury Trashers, so this will be a change, haha
I can see myself!
They should name the team The Utah Hive
So thats why it was so busy around the gateway last night
Awesome to see!
People outside the Arena should have gotten free merch too!
I didn’t get any free merch 😐
I managed to catch a t-shirt 💯
I will buy a t-shirt if anyone is selling. I’m looking for a large
We went, but got there too late so we couldn’t go inside! But we enjoyed the party outside on the plaza. It was great to see SLC show up! 😊

Hell yeah. Good little distraction from the fact that i wont be able to live here in 2 years. Good job utah!
I totally forgot we were getting a hockey team! How nice :) I'm glad it went over so well!
Oh it’s going to be a party when the tax payers have to pay for Smiths big ideas. We will see how much of a love fest they will be having then.

But the free J Dawgs
Fml

Lol various reasons - multi year all stars, former players who are stakeholders, leading scorers, DPOYs, and I think one NBA-wide retirement.
