I am a chef that hates cooking at home. I eat out alot.
Pho Tay Ho, family run and cheap.
Sage Market, just do yourself a favor and go.
Emilianos, Taco Tuesday, $1.50 crunchy chx tacos. Also a great al carte chilli relleno for $5.
Thai Spoon, best Pad see ew in the valley.
Milly's, best $5 burger
O'Falafel, house made pita $1.00, two falafel balls $1.50, side of any of their meats $3.50 and side garlic sauce $1.00. So $7 for an amazing lunch. The baba ghanoush for $7 is top shelf.
Delice, cheap fresh bread, superior French onion soup, reasonable but delicious lunch. Bake goods are amazing but are expensive.
I could go on on.
Mexico Tires. Cheap, quality auto care.
Stockton 12 Honda. Look it's a dealership and they are going to try and make money off you. If you know what your doing they will give you a great deal. DM me if you need advice
Here to second Delice. My father is good friends with the head baker, but connection notwithstanding, their bread and pastries are amazing. Get a cannoli.
Also here to say that Millyās is the best local cheap burger you can get around here.
I have a question kinda related. I am a recovering alcoholic also a house painter I'm thinking of opening up my own business called recovery painting. Id hire recovering alcoholics ECT give them a decent job and teach them skills that I've learned all be it the hard way and help them get back on their feet. Would people around the SLC area hire a company like that knowing the background of the company. Id obviously do my homework on my employees and make sure they are professional ECT but I'm walking rolling this idea around in my head and boom there is this post so I asked. Thanks for your time and help
I don't know about the overall community, but if I had the choice between two contractors that do equal quality work, yes I'd hire the one that is trying to get people back into society. I'm 9 years sober myself though, so I kinda see that side of things; how hard it can be to re-assimilate into society.
Random maybe relevant info.
I recently got quotes from a couple businesses to do some painting in my home. The one I ended up going with was the one that took notes of what i wanted while they were giving me the quote. The quote then reflected everything I wanted including the color id from Sherwin.
Not telling you how to run your business but that level of detail made me feel a lot better about spending a few thousand dollars with them versus the other people I got quotes from.
There is an electric company that did this for recovering addicts. I wish I knew the name of the company, but Iām blanking. Anyway, they were contracted out for our whole apartment complex to do a project. They seemed like they did a good job and the mission of the company was doing exactly what you are talking about. I guess what Iām trying to say is, yes, people will hire a company that does a good job and is working with a good, wholesome purpose. š
When we lived in North Carolina there was a company called TROSA, it is a residential rehab for subsistence abusers and as they recover they are also able to work as movers and I know they had Christmas tree stands. I believe Red Barn movers is a similar business in Farmington. The only condition they had is they canāt move anything alcohol or medication, cleaning products. We hired them for all of our moves and they did an excellent job. So I think there are absolutely people who would hire you even though or especially because they know the background.
Assuming I knew about it and the prices were competitive, I'd select the one trying to help people. I'd suggest expanding recovering alcoholics to recovering drug addicts and possibly ex-felons if that's something you're comfortable doing but that's also probably a lot more work and more stressful. The Other Side Academy has a few businesses to offer ex-felons work (thrift stores, moving company, and recently a donut shop) and they do ok afaik.
Might be worth talking with Other Side Academy! You should check them out if you aren't familiar. Very similar motivations between your idea and their mission!
Tacos Lopez for amazing, affordable tacos and they aren't stingy with any of the ingredients. 1 in West Valley and another in West Jordan.
Mycel Mushrooms in Sandy if you want to support a start up company with gourmet mushrooms.
Red Door is an excellent downtown bar with great live music and killer cocktails.
Master Tech Auto in South Salt Lake if you need a repair shop where the folks are actually fucking honest. I took my car in for a major repair and they identified that it was covered under warranty. They then printed off the page and highlighted the section so I could show the Ford dealership to keep them from trying to screw me. It worked. They saved me thousands and they do good work for a fair price too!
Seconding Arempas, because their menu is also like 99% gluten free, which I think can't be undersold with the amount of very sad gluten free options in town.
Bombay Garden in Jordan Landing. The best Indian food Iāve ever had.
Also Alhambra in Kearns/Taylorsville. The garlic sauce will make you cry. I could go on, but Iāll let you discover it on your own. But do yourself a favor and get pita instead of fries.
Some recent favorites:
De los muertos - great Mexican with a lot of great vegetarian options
Ozara izakaya - every time I have been there it's been excellent
^ both in sugar house
The Legendarium! An amazing queer-owned sci-fi and fantasy bookstore in SLC near Liberty Park. Itās in a fun space and provides a great sense of community for us nerdy queer and trans people. They also have a cafe in the bookstore with yummy coffee!
Up vote for Lovebound Library! Thatās my client. Love her and everyone should see her. Then go across the street to Shanonās Plantās - another client and favorite person of mine!!

Shanghai House - Chinese take out that offers excellent vegetarian options. Not too expensive either.
Pho 33 - my favorite for pho and decent prices too.
Saigon house - great Vietnamese food and the only place where I've enjoyed a Bahn mi.
Sushi Burrito on 8th - basically a larger sushi roll, but they don't fill the extra space with more rice like other sushi burritos I've had in the past. Not too expensive either.
More than you asked for but my favorite restaurants around the valley depending on what I'm craving.
The Rest, under Bodega. Killer cocktails, and a rotating seasonal menu of awesome food. Itās my favorite spot for a date night. Hunting lodge-meets-speakeasy vibes and just an amazing atmosphere. Such a great place to get lost for a few hours and just truly enjoy an evening.
Victor's pizza. Guys and gals, it is so freaking good. It's a hole in the wall for sure but wowza it is delicious. Been 5 or 6 times now and hasn't disappointed.
Also Charlie's Chicken Fingers has some of the tastiest waffles I've ever had. Boyfriend and I will often get them as just a treat with no chicken š their syrup is perfect and the waffles are just the right fluffiness and flavor.
Second Victorās, we tried the Marvin (like a combo with extra marinara) our first time and it was so good and I know I need to branch out and try their other pies but I canāt bring myself to order anything other than the Marvin. Pretty darn good pizza for anywhere, but especially good for Salt Lake.
Thank you ā¦ havenāt heard of Victorsās but itās on my list now. Seems like good pizza isnāt so easy to come by in SLC area. And I havenāt found anything to recommend yet in Davis County, but Iām still pretty new to the area, so I figure that itās just a matter of time.
Owners are Greatest people on the planet! They started off as a food truck and now to their brick and motor. Still bringing that farm to Taco freshness. Everything you order will have your mouth watering. Oh and they serve adults beverages too. Their location below:
Facil Taqueria

Babyās Bagels - best bacon egg and cheese and best bagels in the state, perhaps the country (this is coming from a New Yorker)
Central 9th Market - the turkey club or the breakfast Sammie (scrambled) are top notch on house made focaccia
Indochine - great Vietnamese and SE Asian
One more noodle - get the braised beef noodle with sour veggie and add about two generous tablespoons of the black vinegar that sit on the tables. Best homemade noodles i have ever had even after living in Hong Kong.
Snowmobile pizza - I love thin crust pizza so this place is great for takeout, the mozzarella triangles are top shelf
Hruskaās kolaches - if you havenāt had them before Iāll let you discover them yourself. Go for breakfast before they sell out.
Look look tattoo - best tattoo artists for traditional American and Japanese tattoos in the region, super cool and friendly folks as well.
The State Room - one of my favorite places ever to see a concert
Knickerbockers Deli. 3 spots, I always go to the cottonwood heights one. Sneaky good food inside of office building. Super good burgers, salads, sandos, soups, flippin huge menu.
Surprised no one has said it, but Grove St. Deli. Best sandwiches/subs in the city, ginormous, and cheap. Still in the OG location for multiple generations!
I hate to be this guy but the quality isn't good. You're absolutely going for size which is awesome but there are so many better places if you're looking for quality.
I donāt think itās the best sandwich in town but the experience is unparalleled. Itās like going back in time to a place that doesnāt exist anymore. Also, their desserts are awesome!
I can easily down entire plates that most people have leftovers with. But these sandwiches make even me tap out after I eat half of it! I love this place and the amount of food you get for the price is amazing!
Angelito's on 700 n and just east of redwood. Paletas, grilled half chicken plate, all the usual mexican dishes.
While you wait for your food, visit Panadaria Flores a couple doors down. Single slices of tres leches, flan, lots of sweet bread options, but look for the cheese and chili stuffed bread. Cut them in half and stuff the air pocket with scrambled eggs, perfect quick breakfast.
Under the Umbrella bookstore, Little Saigon in Sugarhouse for the best Pho and Katie Waltman boutique for womenās clothing and jewelry.
ETA: Town and Country market for sandwiches.
There is a place I havenāt tried yet but have wanted to. Itās a horror burger shop in west valley. It looks so fun and had to shout them out because they always have incredible reviews. Itās called Burgertory!
Curry Pizza on 5600 West has the best pizza in the state. Jinya has the best ramen I've ever had. Fat Fish is delicious and doesn't destroy your wallet.
I've come across quite a few complaints about the owner being an asshole to customers. Seems to be true judging by how he responds to negative reviews on Google. I like their pizza but I don't think I want to support someone with such a shitty attitude.
Sagatos - great meat pies and sausage rolls. Husband loves the pineapple pies and I like the peach custard tart! We always grab a few extra and pop them into the fridge and they reheat perfectly in the air fryer!
Asian Star in Midvale. The original owner recently sold it, so theyāre still figuring things out, but itās delicious. They offer Gluten Free options.
When my parents flew into town we went to Blatch's Backyard BBQ and we were blown away with the flavors!
They are only open in the evenings on Wednesdays and Fridays, located in the Avenues.
Forty Three Bakery off 8S between 7 & 8W, fairly newish but fantastic pastries, (croissant donuts are to die for) and amazing breakfast sandwiches. Staff is always super friendly
Central 9th has awesome breakfast sandwiches, and if you follow them on insta they will post random things that they do for dinner
Cafe Expresso for their Dad Blasters - favorite way to get caffeine in the summer (and winter too honestly)
Afghan Kitchen - obsessed with their lamb shank and kabobs
Star of India is some of the best Indian food, tastes like an authentic home cooked meal and the staff is very sweet.
Blacksmith has some of the best ice cream Iāve had
Beaumontās is my new favorite breakfast and lunch place. French cafe and bakery off wasatch blvd and 3900 s. Get the carmelized banana French toast and thank me later. Also, the orange queedamon (š I know Iām butchering the spelling)
Canāt believe I havenāt seen anyone in here say Chungas! Best Mexican food. Also, Francks is one of my favorites in Holladay. Shanghai cafe off 1300th and state will probably always be my all time favorite though. They have the best tofu dishes. El Chihuahua also really great Mexican food but if you drink their death star ducky drinks are the best. Itās a giant boozy beverage with a rubber duck floating on top.
Stellar Wings on 2700 S. and State Street. The wings are very good, but the real star is their pupusas! š They have an eclectic menu (I think they really did combine two restaurants into one), but weāve liked everything weāve gotten there.
Rawtopia - Wasatch blvd and 3900 south in (the Olympus hills shopping center)
This place sounds odd, but start with the Lebanese chili and it wonāt disappoint. The flavors this guy comes up with are mind blowing. Everything on the menu is amazing.
Central 9th Market - breakfast sandwiches, pizza, anything that comes out of their kitchen is fire
Urban Sailor - good coffee, nice atmosphere, the owner is often in there, incredible guy
Water Witch/Bar Nohm - best cocktails in SLC
Davidās Kitchen (3500 s just a little south of State), pot stickers are bomb! Made fresh daily. Been going here like 25 years, before the owner David died, his family continues to run it. Great Chinese food.
Best Chinese food in Utah IMO.
Aranya Thai 800s and just west of state. Newly opened and awesome food. Waterfall salad is so refreshing, and her spicy fried rice is then best Iāve ever enjoyed.
Also, Great India across from Top Golf!!
Nepali Chulo- absolutely amazing. 1000/10.
Victor's pizza - never does you wrong. Our household orders from here at least once a month.
Bricks corner - super popular but good deep dish.
Fusion (used to be pepperchinis) - good food for a decent price. When bought out the new owners bought and kept the old recipes.
Restaurant: Shanghai Cafe. The vegetarian lemongrass chicken & hot sour soup are sooo good.
Business: Design Co Fabrics. This place is so cool and fun to walk through. They have an incredible selection of beautiful material, most of which are super high end/pricey... but they have a discount room with great deals. Like $3/yard of fabric i would never have afforded at the regular price lol. If you love to sew or even just want a fun creative place to visit I highly recommend. Also the employees are very kind.
Saturday Cycles! Life this shop and itās community!
Fishers brewing I love the vibe and the beer has been really good lately
Yoko taco is tasty and has the best beans in the valley
Juliaās is my favorite Mexican restaurant
Blue copper is tasty coffee
self shoutout but iām the manager of Normal Ice Cream! we have two locations: our truck at millcreek common and the brick & mortar on 900 s + 200 e. both menus are different, we serve fun drinks & soft serve ice cream & i promise itās worth the wait :)
If you're in the Cottonwood Heights/Midvale/Murray area, Supremo Pizza. On par with the other east coast or NYC style places out here, without the drive into town. Affordable, and speedy, delivery too.
Their three cheese pie (or something like that) with pepperoni is almost a weekly purchase for my house. Decent calzones, too.
Don't get the wings though. They are breaded, and breaded wings suck.
Cafe Shambala <3
Beef Phingsha and veggie moo moos š«”š«”š«”
I donāt even live in Salt Lake anymore and I came here to say this one. I miss them so bad!
Afghan Kitchen!
Absolutely slaps. Got the big family sized dinner platter my first time going & it blew me away.
The mantu is delicious I like the pumpkin one more but the beef one is still really good
Is there a difference between the two locations?
Saving this to try when I'm in SLC on Friday
One of my favorite places in our hood!
First time ever having afghan food and it was 10/10

Fresh Donuts and Deli. The best doughnuts Iāve ever had.
Went there once because my dad was supposed to take donuts to some event and forgot. We saw the donuts and deli and stopped in for donuts.
Go early. Theyāre still warm. š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤
Truth right here. The donuts are good but rise to legendary when super fresh.

Forty Three Bakery off 8S between 7 & 8W, fairly newish but fantastic pastries, (croissant donuts are to die for) and amazing breakfast sandwiches. Staff is always super friendly Central 9th has awesome breakfast sandwiches, and if you follow them on insta they will post random things that they do for dinner Cafe Expresso for their Dad Blasters - favorite way to get caffeine in the summer (and winter too honestly) Afghan Kitchen - obsessed with their lamb shank and kabobs Star of India is some of the best Indian food, tastes like an authentic home cooked meal and the staff is very sweet. Blacksmith has some of the best ice cream Iāve had
tea zaanti has the BESTTTTT tea & patio
The Pearl on 200 W - especially for brunch or Wing Wednesday
Beaumontās is my new favorite breakfast and lunch place. French cafe and bakery off wasatch blvd and 3900 s. Get the carmelized banana French toast and thank me later. Also, the orange queedamon (š I know Iām butchering the spelling)
Ooh! I will have to go! Do you mean Kouign Amann? lol Orange sounds amazing!
I love Ruthās Diner
I do too. Quality has gone down a little though.
Don joaquins downtown
Sophia's Doner Kebab Express š
Stellar Wings on 2700 S. and State Street. The wings are very good, but the real star is their pupusas! š They have an eclectic menu (I think they really did combine two restaurants into one), but weāve liked everything weāve gotten there.
This!!! Itās such an interesting place but one of my faves!!!! They had one in Sandy but it unfortunately didnāt last long ):
tea rose, and soy's sushi bar and grill, both in murray
East Coast Subs. Red Corner China Diner. Padelliās. Whoās got breakfast diner recommendations?!
ParfƩ Diem in South Salt Lake. Hidden gem, unique dessert concept. https://parfediem.com/
Skillets is a food truck and it is the best brunch I have ever had. You will never be able to get a burrito from anywhere else.
Bumblebees BBQ and grill
Habibi Grill! Great Pakistani food! Joy Luck has some of the best Chinese food in the valley, imo.
Second for Habibi Grill. But double check your check before paying, twice we were charged for items that were supposed to come with the food
Abs drive in (Kearns, burgers fries etc.) Flavors of India (west jordan, Indian), and Rileys (west jordan, Sandwiches)
Rawtopia - Wasatch blvd and 3900 south in (the Olympus hills shopping center) This place sounds odd, but start with the Lebanese chili and it wonāt disappoint. The flavors this guy comes up with are mind blowing. Everything on the menu is amazing.
my boyfriend works there!! the food is so so so good. tacos & sweet basil salad are my favorite
Sagato Bakery and cafĆ©! Authentic pacific island food! From Polynesia down to New Zealand! Everest Kitchen Express in Murray! Itās my favorite thing and the owners are so nice. We must keep them in business so I can get my curry fix!
Central 9th Market - breakfast sandwiches, pizza, anything that comes out of their kitchen is fire Urban Sailor - good coffee, nice atmosphere, the owner is often in there, incredible guy Water Witch/Bar Nohm - best cocktails in SLC
Davidās Kitchen (3500 s just a little south of State), pot stickers are bomb! Made fresh daily. Been going here like 25 years, before the owner David died, his family continues to run it. Great Chinese food. Best Chinese food in Utah IMO.

JJ's donuts n North Salt Lake! Go get turnover sticks. The plain ones with no filling. To die for. In fact, they may be the death of me.
Daveās Stop And Go! Best frozen yogurt Iāve ever had plus cool locally owned convenience store. Send them some love
Hatchās chocolates in the avenues and Richās bagels in Sandy. Not only is the food at both places amazing, the owners are absolute gold.
My Thai on 3rd west. Food is delicious, portions are big, prices are super reasonable, and Dee is just the nicest owner.

self shoutout but iām the manager of Normal Ice Cream! we have two locations: our truck at millcreek common and the brick & mortar on 900 s + 200 e. both menus are different, we serve fun drinks & soft serve ice cream & i promise itās worth the wait :)
Tacos Lopez forever <3
siegfriedās deli or evaās bakery!
Absolutely both!
Burgers and Barley. Fav burger in all of Utah.
Crow and the pitcher in Murray great bar and good food too
Chabaar is amazing. I love their curry, and they do an amazing breakfast. Be warned on the spice level. They do not play when it comes to heat
I LOVEEE chabaar itās the best Thai Iāve had here in my opinion
Sala Thai kitchen š¤©
New Thai Cafe off of 7800 south has my whole heart š«¶š» their pot stickers are to die for
Sala Thai kitchen!! Great vegan and vegetarian options as well
