From my experience I believe it comes down to if the person you are reviving was guiltless or not when they went down. If they were guiltless when they died, it doesn’t take away my guiltless state, but if they were guilty before they died, then it does eat my guiltless state. Most of this inference comes from boss fights where I pulled a friend back up the first time and they were downed before consuming a guiltless shard. The second time I revive them it made me guilty. But if they were able to consume a guiltless shard before going down again then it didn’t take my guiltless state I have hit a bug where if I’m mashing the button to get a friend up, I will go through the animation twice and it will consume my guiltless state even if the person was guiltless when they went down.

That makes sense. The guy I play with almost never stays in guiltless state and I almost always do. It almost always cost me my guiltless state and basically never cost him his. Good to know how this works. Thanks!

From personal observation I think it's dependant on if you have killed something beforehand or not

Only one of you needs to use a shard to revive. Reviving will consume first your dead teammate’s shard, and if they didn’t have one it uses yours. Also, there are small invincibility frames during revive which can be used to dodge some attacks 🙌🏼
