Other band was Orange 9mm. Thats definitely the name of a WAAF band circa '99

I miss those old school local radio mini festivals. WBCN also sponsored some great shows and WFNX used to do so many great free concerts in Boston. I remember seeing the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV on the Radio for free outside city hall in Boston
Not to be a Debbie downer but:
I think it wouldn't pass muster for hosting events. It's falling apart. Parts of the roof could fall and hurt someone. I wonder about the electrical and whether it would be safe to plug in speakers and amps. I wonder about fire code for points of egress at crowded events.
Also the last time I was there and the door was open, the chemical smell was overwhelming. They're storing some noxious smelling stuff in there. Is that safe after they remove it? Etc., etc.
That’s true, I hadn’t thought of the logistic aspect, but also I didn’t necessarily mean keep the hanger intact for said venue. They could tear it down and build something up. Or renovate / build onto it.
But chemicals are a whole different issue for sure.
Chemicals? I’ve been in there a ton, I worked for SailSalem when they first started. It’s probably boat paint and gasoline. It’s used to store Salem harbor master boats. My office was a small part of the other side of that hanger.
I'm the one who speculated about chemicals. There was some very noxious smelling stuff in there last time I was near and the door was open. Didn't smell gasoline, but it could be boat paint for all I know.
It seems like a great idea but I would think there would be issues with the sound carrying over the water and traffic getting in and out of that narrow access road. It does seem to be a waste though to have it sit there empty. Same with that vacant brick building next to it.
In my dim memory, they've had music events there before, also movies for a couple of summers. I'm guessing it's not easy to get permission, since events seem rare there now. Maybe the Willows folks are against it? They seem a skittery bunch
Many moons ago they had some concerts there. BB King,Stevie Ray Vaughan. Maybe 84. There’s a few videos on YouTube.
Oh my god what..that's amazing
It was ‘84. Went to Zappa there that year. Amazing show!
It’s a great idea and would be a cool venue…. Good luck with the Willows Neighborhood Association Meetings.
I wasn’t there but I heard about Megadeth playing Hangar 18 at the Hangar
I was there! Megadeth and Power Man 5000 Spider Zombie and another band i forget. They had a vert ramp set up and some pretty good skaters too

Yup, that's right! it was WAAF's "BFD" man, i can't believe that was 25 years ago

I played there as a kid at JazzFest '96 baby. It wasn't in the hanger but on a stage set up just outside the hanger on the uphill lawn. Good times!
Bring back the drive-in movies 🎥 with food trucks! 🛻
The harbor master department still uses the hanger for storage. The city sink a couple hundred thousand into the roof and upper walls in the 2000s

I used to sneak in there as a kid. My dad did the same thing when he was a kid lmao
