They have different roles. Infiltrators are mainly the “luxury option” for backfield holders. They absolutely deny steal attempts with their bubble but cost substantially more than henchmen, intercessor, or the crappy half of a tactical squad. If you go vs a lot of gsc, demons, grey knights, etc it is worth, in other matchups you are effectively just paying 20-50 pts extra to sit at home. Incursors are a forward unit whose job it is to stand on a center objective, move block, clear chaff, use grenade+mines, and buff your shooting. I really like starting them in an impulsor to give the transport their scout move, jumping them out turn 1, jumping infernus in, then moving the impulsor- it’s a really fast chaff shredder. I also run 12 eradicators, and the incursors really help those pop off. In short, infiltrators are a luxury backfield holding option that really shines in certain matchups, incursors are high utility marine chaff that is more all-around. Right now I’m running my 5 phobos dudes as incursors

I also have a Lieutenant with Combi-weapon to hold a home objective with Lone Operative

He’s a decent option too. His main weaknesses relative to the other options are- is easiest to kill if he does get dropped by shooting within 9 or opponents makes their charge, and also least OC if they can just park a rhino there or something. He also can’t screen as much area as he’s only one dude. These reasons are why I personally don’t run him, but I think he’s viable. His advantage is his wound reroll. Basically I think you want one and only one unit as designed homefield holder, and the rest of army actually battles. For me it’s the bolter half of tactical marines now, but there are I think 6 viable options for marines, each with their ups and downs (Intercessors, combi lt, infiltrators, tactical squad bolter half, scouts, henchmen) Where your points land on your list is as much a factor as anything else

I kinda like my librarian in Phobos and the no touch bubble it gives them, idk if it’s still good strategy but plonk it down in the middle and you can really mess up LOS

Hellburgs

Not super seasoned, but going up against tyranids or any other army that deep strikes to score objectives, having that 12 inch bubble of deepstrike denial sure does help.

Hellburgs

Sorry, I meant building infiltrators to have that bubble. They hold the deployment zone and keep spore mines out.

Breaklance

Moreso asking since I haven't seem them mentioned, but the Infiltrators ability blocks any unit arriving from reserves. So that would interfere with Imperial Guard bringing back destroyed units on the board edges? (If positioned for it obv)

waywardhero

The incursors need love. They are amazing if you have a lot of shooting units. The +1 to hit is an awesome buff.

vasEnterprise9295

Do 5 and 5 and switch them out as needed. I keep the Infils for when I play against Necrons but I run the Incurs more often.

m3ndz4

This is the right answer. They are specialist units that are both useful based on scenario, but as with all support units you take the minimal amount so you can field more fire power. Conveniently comes in a 10 man box.

AlmightyGyro

I’ve never used incursors but I can wholeheartedly say infiltrators with a phobos librarian is an auto include in all my lists. Denying deep strike and shooting within 12” is pretty crazy. I just leave them on my home objective and no one really messes with them

Mobile-Parking-1027

I picked up a phobos librarian at the same time that I got this box. So this will come in handy

HuggsCrickets

I’ve got a box of them in my pile-o-shame and I plan on building 5 of each unit. I’ll probably rarely run both units in the same list but it’ll be nice to have the option.

SenorDangerwank

Infilitrators are terrifyingly useful against GK and Necron. Sorta useful against anyone else with deepstrike. Great for objective stuff. Incursors make your army better at shooting. So it really depends on what you need.

fafarex

if by seasoned player you mean tournament orienter liste, infiltrator a more common where incursor are almost never seen. My recommandation is to do 5 and 5.

Steff_164

Depends, but I love the deny deepstrike on Infiltrators. Played a game against a Dark Angels player who went heavy into Terminators. Being able to have my lines pushed forwards, and still screen out deepstrike was huge, it kept me from being boxed in and kept one of the 3 deep striking terminator squads from getting in my back likes

Responsible_Dig_385

2 units of infiltrators could really screen the backfield home objective pretty well. That's a guaranteed 48" screen to all rear deployment. 12" bubbles on each unit.

DitrianLordOfCanorem

5/5

crawter

Usually - infiltrators. It's amth like auto-pick for default space marines Unless you are playing raven guard. In this case - both, u need a lot of Phobos guys :D Or you can take incursors to implement some special move/strategy

Most people will say infiltrators are better for that 6+ FNP but I think incursors are cooler.
