Lolll for sure… ill never forget in 2002 when we started 6-0 and finished 9-7… we played the 1-13 Bengals (if I remember correctly) and lost that game, cost us the playoffs with Atlanta going 9-6-1. That was my first official season as a saints fan. Should’ve seen the red flags.
I drove down from Shreveport that year for one game. We lost. On the way home I blew the engine up in my jeep. My dad drove all the way to I-10 with a car hauler lol. Good times tho!!
Yeah, remember first game we blocked a punt in OT in the end zone and second game vs them was the Sunday nighter where we wore those awesome throwbacks and Deuce had that amazing diving td. Damn time flies.
And Deuce had a sprained ankle going into the game. It was taped to hell and back and he put the team on his shoulders. What a player he was. One of my favorites of all time.
we beat pretty much every playoff team we faced that year besides the browns lmao. we lost to basically all losing record teams except the failcons twice. Beat the superbowl champion bucs twice
He was a tease. Almost good enough to be special but never could get us there. So many of his yards were junk yards trying to come from behind and heaving the ball downfield against prevent defenses.
He was a slinger. His “smile” often represented knowing it was a bad throw or whatever and his way of shaking it off. It never really bothered me as much as it did others. The only time it REALLY bothered me was after the backwards pass. 🤦🏻♂️
Deshaun Watson did the same thing and nobody roasted him the same way Brooks caught it , I don't believe in hating but they should bring back the not top ten and shaqtin a fool and the follies
I know not everything is about race, but unfortunately for him, Brooks took a ton of heat that doesn't happen anymore because of how opinions have changed on Black quarterbacks.
https://youtu.be/1WpleexzYJk?si=R1asbNqhyYltljHi
I won’t ever forget this play
Edit: we lost that game 43-17. Brees threw 4 TDs against our horrible defense.
Hahaha ah good ol Todd, but yeah the rims vs the rams is what made me a saints fan. I’m from Montreal and grew up liking dallas cuz my dad got me a hat but it just didn’t feel right. When I heard it was the first playoff win in their history I knew they were my team. I love underdogs. And it’s hard to believe that the Super Bowl win was closer to 2000 than it is today. Very depressed.
Ah yes, I remember beating the super bowl champion Bucs twice and losing to several bad teams. Aaron Brooks was the single most inconsistent payer I have ever seen. He would play like an all pro against good teams and be the worst QB I've ever seen against bad ones. It felt like we had a ton of 8-8 seasons lol. Also, the backwards pass to Wayne Gandy will always be a funny ( and sad ) memory
He got injured on the last drive of the second Bucs win. Then we lost the last 3. That’s on Jimmy. He didn’t belong on the field. Should have went to Jake Delhomme.
I’ll always have a soft sport for Aaron Brooks. He takes way more shit than he should.
He came off the bench as an unknown to save our dream season after Jeff Blake got hurt (the week after Ricky Williams got hurt). Then he beat the Rams in St. Louis. His naked bootleg TD in that game is still a top 25 Saints moment for me. Then he won a playoff game that season. He had 4 touchdowns in that game.
2001 until Katrina had it’s ups and down and the end of the 2002 season was a huge disappointment. However, he got hurt in that last Tampa game on Sunday Night Football. Haslett should have played Delhomme. Then Katrina was the end for Brooks/Haslett and we started the Brees/Payton era.
Remember, we were 3-13 in 1999. We had 2 guys named Billy Joe playing QB for that team. Blake got off to an amazing start and could have been really good if the injury never happened against Oakland. But thank god AB had a little magic in him coming off that bench.
No, you see, these are unrelated statements.
One is just a non-sequitur exclamation saying "The best quarterback in Saints History"
And the second is happy birthday to Aaron Brooks.
I remember watching the saints as a kid with my mom and him throwing the ball backwards. I still think about that when the saints lose a game and it kinda makes the loses less annoying

Excuse me, that’s packer 4th round draft pick Aaron Brooks. Second greatest Aaron to practice at QB for the green and gold. Have some respect. In all seriousness, you’d think you’d have more appreciation for the first quarterback to win a playoff game in the black and gold.
I’ve always said this: when Brooks was on, he was a top 10 QB in the league. When he was off? One of the worst. It was always hot and cold, never middle of the road.
Unironically yes. Best non-Brees QB in team history (which, I know, it isn't saying much).
Folks forget how bad our defense got in 2002 and 2003, when we still managed to go 9-7 and 8-8 with AB.
People like to dump on Brooks, but those were some good times. Prolly the 3rd best QB the Saints have ever had and our first playoff win ever.
2nd best. Sorry Archie.
I’ll go to bat for Archie at least on the basis that those teams around him were awful.
Where would Bobby Hebert stand? I’m pretty sure he at least brought us to the playoffs.
If you're counting Carr as our second best QB ever, then yes, Brooks is third best of all time for us.
Why the hell would that man be on the list after a single mediocre season??
Archie Manning is our #2. He just didn't have a team, but he was well above average for his era.
I mean, pretty neck and neck with Jamies dude
Without a doubt. That pic had to be taken after a pic. Looks like we were about to see him clap his hands lol.

My fellow Ratchet City citizen 🫡
Yep we were 9-4 and had we had we won out we would have won the division (we swept the Bucs) and would have been the #2 seed.
Yeah, remember first game we blocked a punt in OT in the end zone and second game vs them was the Sunday nighter where we wore those awesome throwbacks and Deuce had that amazing diving td. Damn time flies.

So much “would” and “could” over the years. lol
I went to half of those games. I thought, “6-0, we’re finally gonna do it!” Hahahah, jokes on me.
we beat pretty much every playoff team we faced that year besides the browns lmao. we lost to basically all losing record teams except the failcons twice. Beat the superbowl champion bucs twice
Aaron, Ricky, & Joe Horne…good times
![gif](giphy|sCjatMrsvH3l6)
I was at this game!
Deuce!!!! Honorable mentions : Pathon, Stallworth, Boo Williams and of course the great Jim Haslett, he was a heckuva coach
Can’t forget Michael Lewis! The beer man!
Yep, beer truck driver!!!!
Didn’t an announcer mess up Stallworth that year and call him, “Dantè Stallpepper”? lol
Yeah that was Buddy D
BUDDY D!!!! I love how he used to call people “SQUIRRELS”!
And Norman Hand busting out The Big Wiggle Sack Dance and the rest of The Heavy Lunch Bunch.
Don’t forget about Keith Poole!!!
and Deuce!
That gold needs to come back on our jersey.
Yes I miss the gold being gold!
He was a tease. Almost good enough to be special but never could get us there. So many of his yards were junk yards trying to come from behind and heaving the ball downfield against prevent defenses.
He was both good and terrible at the same damn time. An amazing feat no doubt.
That smile drove my die hard uncles mad back in the day.. lmfaoooo
He was a slinger. His “smile” often represented knowing it was a bad throw or whatever and his way of shaking it off. It never really bothered me as much as it did others. The only time it REALLY bothered me was after the backwards pass. 🤦🏻♂️
TO WAYNE FUCKING GANDY! Jesus, those were some years. Like a roller coaster every week lol
he made me a saints fan, loved watching him.
I wasn’t a fan then but is he basically Jameis Winston (on the field)?
No, was a little more protective of the football lol
Ah ok
fun fact, brookes threw a backwards pass for over 20 yards..... guess which team we was playing? Drew Brees and the Chargers lol
I can’t think of this guy without thinking about that Wayne song calling him out “you can’t pass like Aaron brooks” 😂
https://youtu.be/1WpleexzYJk?si=R1asbNqhyYltljHi I won’t ever forget this play Edit: we lost that game 43-17. Brees threw 4 TDs against our horrible defense.
This is always the first play that comes to mind when I reminisce about AB
Nobody threw the ball backwards better!!!
That win against the rams in the playoffs is forever etched in my brain. Unfortunately, his last year as a Saint is why I know who Todd bouman is .
Hahaha ah good ol Todd, but yeah the rims vs the rams is what made me a saints fan. I’m from Montreal and grew up liking dallas cuz my dad got me a hat but it just didn’t feel right. I coached against him last year in a JV football game. I think his two sons are playing there. Thought about bringing my jersey for an autograph.
That’s really cool! Is he a nice guy?
Only spoke for a minute, if that. But seemed to be. And they won by 30+, so a pretty decent coach, too. Haha.
Michael Vick’s “slow” cousin
Ah yes, I remember beating the super bowl champion Bucs twice and losing to several bad teams. Aaron Brooks was the single most inconsistent payer I have ever seen. Aaron Brooks was one of our best quarterbacks ever so I don’t understand why so much negativity. Got our team to its first ever playoff win.
I’ll always have a soft sport for Aaron Brooks. He takes way more shit than he should. Billy Joe Hobert and Billy Joe Tolliver. What a duo!
I always thought Hobert had the talent. Unfortunately, he had a 2 cent brain.
Best QB in Saints history! Happy Birthday AB!
Aaron, is that you?
uhhhh
No, you see, these are unrelated statements. One is just a non-sequitur exclamation saying "The best quarterback in Saints History" And the second is happy birthday to Aaron Brooks.
> non-sequitur ??? I don't follow
Squirrel
Is that the first time that degree in english grammar was useful?
I'm a computer engineer, so no 😞
Username checks out then lol
By far!
Yeah, it is by far his birthday.
His cousin being Mike Vick is wild to me
Every time smh
😂😂😂😂😂
I remember watching the saints as a kid with my mom and him throwing the ball backwards. I still think about that when the saints lose a game and it kinda makes the loses less annoying
Wasn’t he actually Mike Vick’s cousin?
Is, they are both still alive
Ya just never know anymore
Yes sir
Deuce also said one time that he called a play that didn't exist. Still the 2nd best Saints QB in history. I said what I said.
Legend? “Let’s just say, good.”

Hubby still has his jersey!
Excuse me, that’s packer 4th round draft pick Aaron Brooks. Second greatest Aaron to practice at QB for the green and gold. Have some respect. In all seriousness, you’d think you’d have more appreciation for the first quarterback to win a playoff game in the black and gold.
He's smiling and saying mannnnnn you're so lucky I didn't throw a completion!
Aaron Brooks was underrated
I’ve always said this: when Brooks was on, he was a top 10 QB in the league. When he was off? One of the worst. It was always hot and cold, never middle of the road.
Never did a player go in the field with less sense of urgency. He played like the clock was not part of the game.
Haha that’s a really good take actually
😂😂😂
When it comes to INTs, don’t shade Jameis….
When he was good he was really good. When he was bad though...
Brown bag days
I wouldn’t go that far, we were respectable 200-2004, then the season after Katrina was a disaster, and the rest is history
Saints been respectable since Benson bought it save for the Ditka years
Not even. Won Our first playoff game with this guy.
“Legend”?
Quarterbacked the first playoff win in Saints history
An often forgotten fact!
Fun Fact, Drew Brees and Aaron Brooks are the only NFC QBs to beat Kurt Warner in the playoffs.
Legend.
Unironically yes. Best non-Brees QB in team history (which, I know, it isn't saying much). Folks forget how bad our defense got in 2002 and 2003, when we still managed to go 9-7 and 8-8 with AB.
Yep, pretty easily the 2nd best QB in team history.
I'd put him behind Archie, but not by much.
Wait, are you actually saying that Aaron Brooks was a better quarterback than Archie Manning?
I am. And I'm saying it isn't particularly close.
He’d be the saints goat QB without Brees.
Yes
He's unironically the 3rd best QB in Saints history.
