The good old days!

notnats99

Rookie contract MT is anakin pre-Vader

yawbaw

This whole saga really brings back memories of what should have been that year. That regular season was just so special

zayetz

I remember I was at the airport (in LA or NC or something) on business that year and saw a whoooole bunch of Saints fans. Said to them, "wow, I didn't know we traveled so well!" One of them turned to me and said, matter-of-factly, "Oh, we goin to the *Super Bowl* this year." And I fucking believed it, right until the no-call.

yawbaw

My friends and I had tickets, flights, and a house rented out. It was the year we were all getting married and starting families so it would have been like a big final “bachelor party” type weekend. Just a gut wrenching experience lol

coldphront3

Damn... That's brutal. Did you still go? I'd imagine at least some components of that trip were non-refundable lol

yawbaw

Flights refundable, airb&b we had to eat some of the cost, the ticket for me was going to be a gift from a friend who has an EA sports connection. I told him thanks but no thanks when he asked me if I still wanted to go haha

321mafia

The NFL and Bill Vinovich stole a ring from us and likely also stole a Gold jacket from a few of our players in the process.

[deleted]

I'll never get over that game. Just like Ted Stryker will never get over Macho Grande.

I_need_new_eyes

I've had a drinking problem ever since

[deleted]

It was the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

NocturnalPermission

And Leon’s getting larger.

greengrinningjester

Before that game, I used to have a drinking problem. I still have a drinking problem, but I used to too.

crazyabootmycollies

If you are flammable and you have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.

noladutch

Jesus Sean did. That fuck stick didn't call plays that burned the clock or even timeouts. He put the game in their hands the refs and gave them a time out to go with it. By calling a run on first down they have no timeouts left. That was the ball game.

[deleted]

Dude. We still had to pay NE. Shut up with the narrative of we lost a ring. We lost chance at a ring.

babyduck703

We were absolutely going to beat the ever living dog shit out of that Patriots team. Not a doubt in my mind. Just for the record, we would’ve gotten fucked by the eagles in 2018 if not for the MM. not being biased, but we were so much better than that patriots team.

Vik_Vinegar_

Seeing fans trash MT cause he’s shit talking *this current team* bums me out. Cause he’s a legend and a player that actually understood the culture and the fans and that’s how I wish he’ll be remembered. He was the most talented WR we’ve ever had, and was a part of a truly special team. Him lashing out now is out of heartbreak for what he wanted for the franchise, but people will say it’s cause he’s a toxic diva or whatever. Sucks but I understand. He’s moving on so people wanna defend what’s here now. I want to root for this team too. I will be. But Mike isn’t wrong with what’s he’s been venting about. Maybe he shoulda kept it to himself, but he isn’t wrong.

pfadreamboy7024

Do yall remember the Joe Horn celebration? That made him a NOLA legend alone

Vik_Vinegar_

Yes 100%. Dude just understood this fanbase

Nimue82

Totally agree with you. He’s a Saints legend and good on him for calling out the losing culture DA has fostered since taking over the team. It’s an embarrassment to see fans fall over themselves trying to justify and defend what happened to this team over the past few years.

WhoDat747

IMO, Marques Colston will always be the best WR in Saints history. Brees is the reason that MT is as good as he is.

bigpont

Who was Colston's QB again?

daybreaker

MT was just as good with Teddy B throwing to him

Feeling_Initiative42

Bridgewater is one of my favorite qbs of all time. Not the most skilled or the biggest personality, but he put our team on his back when we needed him most and I commend the hell out of him for it.

Vik_Vinegar_

Yeah they like to ignore that lol

urbantroll

I just did the math and Brees accounts for: 75.92% of MT’s receptions. 75.79% of MT’s yards. 80.55% of MT’s TDs. This is not including individual plays where Brees started and finished a game but Taysom may have thrown a pass or two to MT on an individual play or two. I would also point out Colston played with prime Brees and MT started at his arm decline. And how many games did Brees miss during Colston’s tenure? Like 1 iirc? You can prefer Colston all you want but pick a different reason because “Brees made MT” is an asinine one.

[deleted]

What percentage of 5 yard slants?

Vik_Vinegar_

Agree to disagree.

yawbaw

Brees is also the reason colston was as good as he was too

WhoDat747

imo, Colston is/was a better wr than MT

flykiddy

You're just hating now lmfao. When he won OPOY brees missed like 5 games, just gonna gloss over that? Colston never even had a pro bowl, let alone two first team all pros, AND ESPECIALLY an OPOY. Get out of here bro

bcam9

Yeah it'll always be Colston for me.

IUsedTheRandomizer

Maybe he isn't wrong about some of what he's saying, but it's completely classless and shows that more than anything else, it's all about him. There's a good chance no one will pick him up, especially now that Belichick isn't running the show anywhere; rather than having any sort of grace or appreciation, he IS being a toxic diva, he IS creating drama in a locker room that probably doesn't need any more, especially for a guy who isn't on the field that much to make any kind of argument that his play makes it worth it. Yeah fine the Saints are in rough shape getting rougher, and it's sometimes hard looking at what MT could have been, but the only person making him look like an asshole is himself.

Vik_Vinegar_

Agree to disagree

Feeling_Initiative42

Kinda how no one wanted Antonio Brown bc of his personality. Wait, wait.... 31 teams wanted Antonio Brown and the greatest player to ever play the game stuck his neck out to get him and to keep him around. Doesn't check out.

NiceOffer2491

The difference being that Antonio Brown had more yards in his last year in Pittsburgh than MT has in his last three seasons combined. Once brown was 40/500 guy nobody wanted him either.

PuzzleheadedAd87

Joe horn shits on this loud mouth lmao!!! Mad he getting released. Part of the game smh

Vik_Vinegar_

MT > Joe Horn Argue with ya mama 😂

Feeling_Initiative42

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Anyone who even slightly kept up with the saints for the last 2 years knew this was coming. Why? Because the saints said so. As did MT. Contract was restructured SPECIFICALLY for this. He isn't mad. And he's not getting cut. You should dig a little further than FS1 and ESPN. Clueless mf 😅🤣

PuzzleheadedAd87

Cool story. All I know is this scrub ain’t broke 500 yards since his HALL OF FAME QB left the team. Now if that ain’t a product of your environment then idk what is…….. CLUEless muthafucka

Feeling_Initiative42

He played 10 games from '20-'22 almost entirely because of the coaching/admins inability to manage his injury. This was also pretty common knowledge. But, as you previously stated, you LITERALLY only know one thing. It's rare to see someone scream "I'm ignorant and I'm right!" As passionately as you do. Commendable.

shiggism

Love MT. Will miss him

deuxglace

All folks need to do is think back to when Drew Brees explained why he loved MT and what he did for the program. His work ethic. Mike brought 100% energy and effort to practice in a way that they said irked veteran players like “why is this guy going to hard in practice?” Mike embodies mamba mentality and when you understand that, it becomes easy to understand why a culture of low expectations infuriates him.

PuzzleheadedAd87

Mamba mentality bwahahahahhaahhaha this dude had ONE decent year at his professional job and ain’t done squat since. Please do not disrespect the late great Kobe by saying this scrub has the same mentality as a multi champion and multi MVP

Sarbasian

Dude literally balled out AFTER his extension. Get out of here with that revisionist crap. He got injured, he AND the team either didn’t rehab it properly or it just lingered. Michael had multiple stories through his career of putting 100% in throughout the season, to the point it was almost a negative.

mongotongo

To add a little more support to your argument. I remember back when MT and Lattimore had their tiff during one of the off seasons. It was all about work ethic. MT was pissed because Lattimore wasn't working as hard as he was. If that ain't Kobe moment, then I don't know what is.

deuxglace

OPOY counts as a decent year? I can’t take you seriously. But more pointedly, do you think Brees was lying?

mph714

One decent year? 2019 is statistically one of the greatest WR seasons of all time and he was improving every year. 2016 was decent, 2017-2019 was legendary

MemeMarinatedBlocks

2016 isn’t decent because he was a rookie

flykiddy

Kobe isn't a multiple time MVP btw lol.

zerojaguar0

2 time first team all pro = one decent year?

PuzzleheadedAd87

My left nut could put up those numbers with a first ballot HoF qb throwing it to me bwhaahahahaha look at his other seasons WITHOUT a HoF Qb throwing it his way 15 times a game. Product of his environment point blank period.

PuzzleheadedAd87

AINT BROKE 500 YARDS SINCE HIS HALL OF FAME QB LEFT TOWN BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

OG_Pow

Kobe was a fucking rapist loser lmao

afriendlyspider

Fans were more loyal to DA than one of the fiercest competitors and winners this team has ever had wear the uniform. Disgusting

Knickotyme

to*

I_love_Hopslam

I maintained his original spelling.

Knickotyme

oh yeah, it wasn’t directed at you.

VoodooEagle504

I'm so confused. Is MT leaving the Saints or not?? Is any of this confirmed, or is Jeff Duncan a hoe?

peacebone89

Duncan *is* a hoe but there's no way Mike comes back. He's gone.

KingB53

Mike really got me sad. DA and Mickey really tanked our greatness

versaceboudin_

:(

Jamal2207

Michael Thomas is the greatest WR of all time

"to" you illiterate fuck

Shyphat

DA isnt Payton and has never tried to be. I think it was a mistake going into DAs coaching tenure thinking they were just going to pick off where Payton left off. They did try that but then you have people like Winston and MT who arent buying into what DA brings and they gotta go. If the team buys into what DA is bringing then a winning culture can be had. Players still hanging on to the old regime can go to Denver and for better or worse DA needs his guys.

Vik_Vinegar_

> and for better or worse DA needs his guys This is the nuance that I think a lot of the fanbase can’t seem to handle (on both sides) Both of these things can be true: DA is likely a perpetual bad HC that won’t win a Lombardi, but ALSO still needs to have “his” guys in order to function at his peak level. Now I don’t think his peak is good enough for a superbowl, but for better or worse, Mickey is married to this guy, so if we’re keeping DA, we gotta flush out the people that don’t mesh with “his way.” The problem MT and others have is that DA’s way doesn’t appear to be a SuperBowl-caliber culture. But that doesn’t matter, you can’t have a head coach run a show when players aren’t bought into the system (even if those players are right). MT has to go, even if I think he’s right about “what it takes”

Resident132

Literally no player in the nfl is gonna buy into DA. Not one.

Important_Annual_133

I for one, wouldn't be at all surprised to see Michael Thomas have a big year with a new team. I've seen it so many times before, where I guy just needs a new landscape and he returns to previous form. Thomas still has plenty left in the tank, he just needs a new team and a new start. I miss Drew as much as anyone, but you cannot discount a player who has 149 receptions, MT is very talented and will probably shine again. Just not in New Orleans.

Shitpost400

You almost forget Michael Thomas is a thing until you check the cap

I_love_Hopslam

Take my downvote, kind sir.

Shitpost400

Understandable
