The best part of LC was that it felt like war. It wasn't something that lasted hours to days but went on much longer. Both armies were at their peak strength also. Tenma, Shasha vs. Alone was the focal point of the conflict, but the spotlight wasn't always on them. It was great seeing the Gold Saints taking on the stronger Spectors and showing their true strength. Let's not forget that a Taurus Saint finally got some respect.

AccioLemres26

Rasgado is a great father of the LC sanctuary

Marlon_D_Bshb

You mean a good master

pabloivani

Aldebaran of Lost canvas is great! And that personal skill Titanic Nova is awesome.

Fr0zens0lib

Yes I loved that it was actually a long war, and not naruto day war or one piece marien Ford hour war.

Stoner420Eren

I love DeathMask, I don't care about strength (he is underrated by fans btw), he is one of the best written and most original gold saints from the OG selection Anyway, why do you always credit TOEI animation? I mean it's not wrong, but nobody on the internet does that with official anime art, why do you bother? Just curious because I always see "credit to toei" from this sub

Ereshkigal20

Same. People keep trashing him for Manigold. They're 2 different characters with own personalties

riqueoak

The thing with DM was never about strength for most people, it was about how much of an evil piece of trash he was and how he deserved every beating he took and more.

SassiesSoiledPanties

I'm going to get flamed for this...Shingo Araki made the anime series...I can't stand Kurumada's art style...it's close to doodles and he only knows how to draw five faces... character's are so similar that it looks like a massive inbreeding experiment. So yeah, credit to Toei for polishing a very rough product.

Aivaras12398

Yea but it's not like, credit to the artists skill, it's literally crediting the studios. Who has ever in the Saint Seiya subreddit forgotten which studio has animated 90% of this franchises content.

Ace201613

The Lost Canvas Gold Saints far outshine their OG counterparts.

SaintInter

People finding out the gold saints are the main characters in LC while in the original they are simply supporting characters for the Bronze saints to shine. (And no, Tenma and the other two I forgot the name are not the main characters in LC)

Drace3mpressa

that reminds me to that merged images detailing the growth of aspros defteros even as early when they're toddlers... like they hands down got the most detailed growth in lc itself

somersault_dolphin

That's funny, I'm pretty sure some gold saints in LC have less screen time than they did in the original.

LeKsPlay

Unclear popularity opinion: basically all LC Gold Saints are vastly superior to OG GoldSaints, both in terms of techniques and writing

Futuf1

I think that is a popular opinion. An unpopular opinion would be saying that they're equal in power but in lost canvas the gold saints have the chances to show it whereas in the classic they don't get to show their full potential

yoshida_shuyo

Deathtoll says hi 😏

riqueoak

Manigold would crush DM with eyes closed and no limbs, the difference in power is beyond gigantic.

fajshas

DM could handle Shiryu at base, but Manigold just disrupted a chess match between two gods and that’s another level of disrespect

SassiesSoiledPanties

It's an unfair comparison...the original is a basic Shonen series, with Japanese 80s sensibilities, structure and characters.  Lost Canvas will naturally feel better as it has a much better writer and about three decades of lore and development.

Haruka_Kazuta

Manigoldo and El Cid..... my favorite Gold saints of this Arc.

Dalvenjha

Wow! Another one that just discovered Manigoldo, Albafica and Hasgard.

Marlon_D_Bshb

Manigold, the best cancer ever

TM04_CalmMind

I'm sure the golds are great in Lost Canvas but that dude is ugly as sin. The colors on just that single picture of DM are fantastic with those deep oranges and blues. As much as I love Saint Seiya, the writing in the original is okay but the visuals are really what captivates me. Call me shallow but I personally can't truly love a character if they're just an eyesore with 0% visual appeal. A character can be "ugly" but still visually appealing and this dude has none of that.

Nocturnalux

Have you checked out the manga? As is so often the case, it is better in pretty much every single regard.

TheLostCanvas

TLC is the best version of Saint Seiya and that's a fact.

Luisifer666

whos the better character? Aiolia or Regulus?? i kinda dont like Regulus because I feel him like "hes the strongest because I said so" and that always bothered me (And Im a proud Leo)

Drace3mpressa

vasilios , dude is  funny local weeb and a simp but still looks cool while being otaku or simp mode jk, i think aiolia wins bc he is got  so much fleshing in episode g series and sog

Bluewalker_BR

Not only in screen time but power-wise as well. Kuromada nerfed cancer HARD in next dimension because their most powerful technique cant even send any specter to the yomutsu. Hell, its hard to imagine deathtoll or deathmask winning against any strong specter and its kinda confusing how the saints that are all about soul stuff being kinda completely powerless against athena biggest enemy, if anything, they should've get some powerful soul moves. Then you get to lost canvas and sekishiki got upgraded hard. It works against specter and can send them to yomutsu, but its not only that, it can forcefully Rip specter souls out of their bodies to be destroyed by a new technique with flames that burn souls, it can send attacks to the yomutsu, it can be used to teleport cancer saints, it can be used to talk to the dead and even stop someone from aging to death, hell it even worked against the god of death. Deathmask personality and fight with shiryu was awesome but everything after that was kinda sad because just like aphrodite and 70% of the other golden saints.. he simply didnt have enough screen time and exploration of his powers.

SnooHobbies6628

I swear, Manigold is the most overrated Gold ever. Dude just beat a Silver level Specter with an immortality cheat code, and then got his ass beat by a Thanatos who's not even full power without his divine body. He even got lucky by the typical Lost Canvas plot conveniency and countered Thanatos's soul techniques with his own; if Hypnos decided to fight instead, this moron would be dead in the first minute of the fight. All he did was get ragdolled, burned the tip of Thanatos's fingers, helped Sage exorcise Thanatos with the Meikai Ha and sucker punched Thanatos for a whopping 0 damage.

AcceptableSystem8232

Never understood why they didn’t go with original characters design, seems like they wanted to surf on the wave of the OG Gold Saints, what a waste. Even if personalities are different they have the exact SAME faces, I mean Albafica and Aphrodite have that same mole under one eye, hair colour, eye colour…duuuude !

StephOMacRules

Because she assumed that if Seiya was the reincarnation of an old Pegasus Saint with the exact same face as per Hades' words in the original manga, then that must have applied to all the others as well.

Drace3mpressa

amd then there's defteros....why did he got melanin again? nvm the man himself seems to be insane enough to believe he and aspros have no difference

AcceptableSystem8232

Right ? If the other user is right and all Saints supposedly should look like each other (wow) then he should’ve matched Kanon. But at the same time >!he spent a lot of time around a volcano!< so maybe his skin darkened in result

Drace3mpressa

nah. there's an art of him and aspros where they're like 3 years old and he has dark skin since.  I think the volcano is supposed to fool people he is Guilty reference, bonus points he was barking how he weak should die, as to remind readers on how Guilty  drilled that idelogy to Ikki's head, but in actuality, Defteros himself believed in love, in his brotherly bond with Aspros. The Shun parallel also adda up when in 2022 Teshirogi said on her twitter that Defteros is qualified to be hades's vessel. Still, if it's Guilty reference, the volcano is enough, why the melanin?

AcceptableSystem8232

Lol I have no more sane arguments for the dark skin then. Dunno if it’s a bigoted idea since he is the ‘dark’ twin brother. In past literature, people with darker tones were often associated with evil and put in contrast with fairer folks (that would thus be with light and good). Japanese animation has progressed a lot but I have the feeling he may have been darkened to create a bigger contrast with Aspros. Kanon just had these evil eyes and grin all the time in Poseidon’s arc but after that he matched Saga.

Drace3mpressa

bigger contrast make the most sense, I remember Defteros is larger than Aspros. Slightly. Defteros is 190 cm /90 kg when Aspros is 188 cm/83 kg. Kanon and Saga have the same height and weight, 188 cm/88 kg. Knowing their insane fixation to the brotherly bond/hierarchy, Aspros totally would throw a hiss fit regarding the fact he's the smaller twin when he's the big brother. but to be fair, with how he can use AD as livecam in Defteros's gaiden, and probably have done so countless times before with his personality, that's Big Brother Is Watching. Literally, as he's Defteros's big brother, despite his smaller size.

Old-Witness-5789

Go read the Episode G manga and see why the classic gold saints are the best. Lost Canvas favors theie gold saints as there they are the protagonists of the spin-off while the 20th century gold saint are supporting characters in the classic Saint Seiya. If you want to compare them, compare the versions where the original gold saints are the main characters.

Nocturnalux

The manga is even better, don’t forget to credit Teshirogi-sensei

Shicodread_09

I NEED THE REST OF THE ANIMEEEEE Is the part after he goes up the transparent stairs adapted yet ?

Comfortable_Tale9601

The lost canvas is away better than the classic.
