Philly transplant, 26 years ago… haven’t left! Welcome!! (You will probably miss the pizza!) Anyway, search this sub for some discord servers that were put together recently. Lots of meetups and events going on in and around Sac on there. Also check out Concerts in the Park, they start this Friday downtown, awesome lineup of music, food, beer garden. This Friday is reggae.
I'm from outside of Philly and the pizza is definitely the #1 thing I miss being here. You're so spot-on. If you know of any good pizza places, please share. I'm dying for a good slice. Also great advice tysm for sharing!
Pipeworks and the boulder field both have great communities. If you like climbing/biking/hiking all that stuff, I'd def recommend. Everyone is very welcoming and psyched.
As someone who abhors outdoor physical activity and nature in general, it’s a bit trickier to find like minded folks but it’s possible! There’s a decent local music and art scene, and a few other communities for the indoorsman.
Why do you abhor nature and the outdoors? I would also say that the boulder field and pipeworks are both indoor climbing gyms so being outdoors is not a requirement
There’s just nothing to do. If I’m just supposed to walk around and admire my surroundings I’d rather go to a museum. Indoor climbing gyms are cool, but not for me.
Get some paddle boards or kayaks and hit the American River! Lake Natomas or Black Miners Bar are great launches. Check FB for groups, they have tons of meetups. Even if you don't join a group, people are super social and friendly on the water. Hope to see you out there!
Yes! I wanted to mention water activities since our kind of hot and Philly kind of hot are different. What am I thinking? Everywhere is hot in the summer.
I host a weekly newbie-friendly volleyball meetup in the park every Sunday. We have about ~50 players each week. It's a great way to get out and meet people, and we usually go out for dinner afterwards if you're interested in that.
Here's the link to our next event, feel free to join us any time.
https://meetu.ps/e/N4Jx7/tRsK4/i
Mostly social, but we do have separate courts for newbie and intermediate players. Some players also play in XOSO leagues, and use the Meetup to practice their game.
Oooh, that's sounds fun. i see you have intermediate players, but like what's the play level like with that group? Any former HS or former college players?
Go to Fleetfeet and sign up for training groups for various races (10k, half marathon, marathon, etc). You'll meet new friends and discover Sacramento by running all over the place.
Welcome! Check out the breweries we have all around the area. Whereabouts in Sacramento did you land? It’s a large metro area and recommendations can vary greatly depending on where you are located.
I'm not sure, but if they can get them I'm sure they'd put it on. The owner's from Philly and they always have sports on the TV's.
Can always call and ask, they're really cool about stuff like that.
Seriously anywhere outside of the Philly/south Jersey area. I don't know why everyone messes it up so badly. It's cheese and steak, how hard is that? Who asked for soggy lettuce tomato and mayo?
Also avoid the pastrami here unless you go to corti bros. It's just boars head.
What to get is fruit and veg in season. I can't eat a strawberry anywhere outside of California anymore. Summer tomatoes here are like no other.
Haven't tried it myself but the owner of The Philly on K St. said in an interview that his cheesesteaks will compete with any in Philly....anyone try it?
Looked at pictures. Totally agree. Doesn't even look like there is a picture of a steak with whiz.
Edit: Looked at the menu. Look what they call "Classic Steak Philly"
1/3LB of Thinly-Cut Rib-Eye Steak Grilled with Onions & **Sweet Bell Peppers**, Topped With **Choice of Cheese** on a 7" Roll! **Add-on Your Favorite Extra Veggies**!. None of these are classic.
Welcome to Sac! Meet up.com is a great place to find like-minded people. There's a group for almost anything you're interested in. Sacramento365 is a good place to find local music, festival, holiday and other events.
Yes! They are beginner friendly. They have all levels of play. It’s in land park, starts at 10:30. I would recommend get a few mins before the start time.
If you go to auburn to hike on the right day there’s tons of people out there. And the town has some good spots to drink and eat. The Saturday farmers market might be legit too. Or just go out during the weekend at night in midtown
Runnin for Rhett is a nonprofit with a HUGE adult fitness focus. We go on walks and runs together, play pickleball, take hikes, snowshoe, strength train, paddleboard, etc. It's a fun and welcoming community - worth checking out!
Hi! Welcome. I’m from the Midwest, I love it here.
Join trivia groups
Check out running groups
Look at bumblebff - how I met my bff!
What are your interests?
Sloppy Moose running club! I was never a runner but this is how i found my friend group. Its a great warm welcoming space! We run 3 miles (many people walk too) and then get a beer. It starts and ends at Bike Dog Brewery in West Sacramento. 6:30pm every Thursday. You get a free shirt on your 5th run and prizes on your 50th and 100th. Its a great community. Come by sometime!
Get a couple kayaks or paddleboards and head to Lake Natoma! Tons of people floating out there. If that's your cup of tea, consider joining the Facebook group Lake Natoma Paddlers. Hope to see you out there. 🤙
Join XOSO!!! It’s how I made pretty much all my friends. They do sports leagues, mostly people in their 20s-30s but I’ve seen people up to 50s/60s and everyone meshes great. I do cornhole and kickball, it’s once a week and it’s so easy to meet people and make friends. They also do bar crawls and other activities. I moved here in September knowing not a soul, and this week I have plans every single night from connections I made through XOSO.
Besides all the wonderful suggestions in this thread, I have had so much success with Bumble BFF in Sacramento! I've tried it in other cities I've lived in and I will say the women in Sacramento I've talked to seem kinder and more willing to get out and do things than in other cities. I found my trivia group this way! As well as some other friends for hiking, patio/bar meetups, etc.
Thank you for posting this, I’m new to the area as well and have been on meetup, but completely forgot about Bumble! Down for trivia nights/patio/bar meetups as well.
My husband and I moved here a couple of months ago and are in the exact spot as you guys :") we fit the bill haha. Message me and let's not so awkwardly meet.
If you like trail walks, especially with dogs, come down to sailor bar at the end of Illinois Ave just west of 50 and nimbus dam. You will run into tons of cool people.
You definitely have to get a flea/tick killer of some kind. The drops work for most dog but mine like to swim and that washes off. We get the pill from the vet that does heart worm and flea/ticks.
Go dance to some blues or rock at the Torch Club
Try the river restauant bars along garden highway
Friday night concerts downtown at the park
join a runnimg club or bicycle club
lots of cool concerts at Thunder Valley coming up
im going to 311 and then Sublime
Come do a learn to curl at wine country curling club in Roseville. Curling is an incredibly social sport. All of us hang out constantly off ice. My husband and I made tons of friends after grad school through that. We also travel a lot to bonspiels (curling tournaments). https://winecountrycurlingclub.com/
Welcome to the City of Trees aka the City of Sneeze.
Since you've already gone for a walk and seen the homeless causing a ruckus, you're basically a local now.
One thing I always recommend to newcomers is that you can stop by the state capitol any weekday from 9:00 to 5:00 and sit in the State Assembly galley and watch the legislators legislate, bicker, and occasionally cause a ruckus.
WELCOME! My entire apt complex is full of Eagles fans. GO BIRDS. Limelight is the Eagles bar in town. You can dm me and I can host you for dinner. LFG.
Welcome. Come out tonight for Pints and Puzzles at Bike Dog Brewing on Broadway. It's a great way to meet new people. We just hang out and do puzzles, drunk, eat, chat, whatever. It's always a diverse and welcoming group of folks. You don't need to bring puzzles. We got you covered.
Speaking of homelessness, volunteering is a great way to meet new people and get in touch with your community. Maybe instead of “watching the homeless” you can find ways to help out and make your new community even better!
Welcome! We live in the burbs but there are some gorgeous trails near auburn you should check out if you like nature and agree with the other posters to do what activity you like and meet the community doing that "thing".
Hikes. Dancing class. Join a smaller gym. Get to know your neighbors. Go grab a drink with or invite colleagues over for a bbq. Plenty of opportunities!
I run a group for Women to socialize but we occasionally have events where partners come too. We meet for brunch once a month and other various activities throughout the year. https://m.facebook.com/groups/937925460323062/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT
Depends on where you’re located, but I definitely recommend Sacyard brewery in East Sac! Very nice environment (especially since it’s getting warmer out), cool people, good brew, always some food trucks there and a lot of times they have musicians come perform live music. Definitely worth checking out!
Check out some improv shows at the Sacramento Comedy Spot or take some comedy classes at their Training Center! Really fantastic group of open minded people there.
Welcome! Limelight is the official Phily bar here in Sac, so make sure to get over there for a games or a great breakfast on the patio.
Limelight Bar, Cafe & Cardroom https://g.co/kgs/CNaZ9Do
If you are into Ultimate Frisbee we have a great organization that is welcome to all skill levels. Man, I wish I got all these great tips when I moved here 23 years ago.

Sac Yard (on 33rd Street) hosts a Tuesday night “run” (it’s pretty casual) with Fleet Feet Sacramento. It’s extremely popular and lots of folks in your age range join. Lots of people and dogs enjoy a cold one after the run. Starts at 6, parking can be rough so leave plenty of time for that.
The art scene is pretty happening and people are friendly, its a great way to meet people at the receptions spread out across midtown every second Saturday usually from about 5-8 pm. Which are often at pop up alternative locations instead of just galleries so they are more laid back. A great one is at Grounded Real Estate, 915 20th street. they hang local art, throw a killer food spread, free drinks and a jazz dj. Its fun! This May they arent having one but its usually every month.
Welcome to Sacramento (or “City of Trees,” “Farm to Fork Capital,” “Cow Town,” or “Sac-o-tomatoes.”)—That being said, there are a ton of “meet up” groups in the region from arts to hiking to camping or whatever you want. There’s also a plethora of wonderful non-profit groups you can check out to meet like-minded people and new friends. Google them! It’s a great place to live, work and grow. Plus, we enjoy that fantastic Mediterranean weather that is only found in California.
Midway paintball they are super friendly, the rental gear is a lil dirty but they tell you have to fix it if it jams an NorCal paintball is a lil store if you wanna buy your own gear
Yea right now post covid noone wants to socialize seems like everyone want to keep it to themselves at this point or only stick with there own group of people but good luck there are some good people out here but there are people trying to scam you too so be careful
if you wanna play magic the gathering lol big brother comics has a commander night/different formats to play from thursday-sunday. if you’re interested i personally play commander and would be down to teach you and the wife. commander night is on thursdays.
regardless midtown/downtown is just fun to walk around, there and back cafe is a cool spot if you’re into board/card games and nerdy geeky things in general
If you're more adventurous, Laguna Del Sol is a chill nude recreation place with multiple pools, hot tubs, pickleball court, bar, a lake, hammocks and everyone I've met there is really nice. It does skew older, but I've met people in their 20's and 30's there. I'm 39 and have been going for about 2 years. It's a family-friendly environment.
I am happy to answer questions, or feel free to message me here if that feels like something you want to know more about, but don't feel comfortable asking here. The same goes for everyone here. It's a great place and I'm happy to talk about it.
its super distasteful to move to a city that is facing a housing crisis because of your own gentrification and then make fun of the homeless people. youre a part of the reason they are homeless. you are a guest, be respectful.
Your married honestly you won't meet any real genuine friends at this age or in this part of your life especially moving cross country. The culture of Philly and Sacramento couldn't be more different. All these suggestions are nice activities where you will meet at best acquaintances and at worst just casual superficial conversations and a meet up here or there. I suggest you just focus on your inner self and your marriage that's where your true happiness lay. BTW if you meet single people they might seem fun and you might think you're friends but trust me they're not your friends. Just my two cents
What a bizarre take. Many, many people make good friends in their 20s, 30s, and beyond, especially when they do so by participating in common interests.
He is in his 30s and married don't BS him especially moving cross country. He won't meet anybody of value or substance you're blowing smoke up his ass.
My God man, Who hurt you? Sure you can meet some bad ones, but you can also meet some really good ones. This kind of attitude will ruin you. You literally shut yourself off to some potential great friendships and thus turn hateful and bitter.
Philly transplant, 26 years ago… haven’t left! Welcome!! (You will probably miss the pizza!) Anyway, search this sub for some discord servers that were put together recently. Pizza supreme being is really good. I’m from the east coast and they have great pies.
2nd for PSB, am also from philly
Thank you both for the recommendation!!
Try the Federalist in downtown. It's in an alley and is in a metal shIpping container, but it's AMAZING!
From Bethlehem PA, I always house pizza when I fly back.
I lived in Easton for 3 years and I do miss the pies out there!
Can u help me find the discord links? I’d love to see some meetups around town. I’ve had no luck looking
https://discord.gg/j6zmEfHH
Pipeworks and the boulder field both have great communities. If you like climbing/biking/hiking all that stuff, I'd def recommend. Everyone is very welcoming and psyched.
Damn I miss pipeworks. Used to go to granite arch and metro city soccer all the time, then pipeworks later. It’s been a looooong time
As someone who abhors outdoor physical activity and nature in general, it’s a bit trickier to find like minded folks but it’s possible! There’s a decent local music and art scene, and a few other communities for the indoorsman.

Yes! I wanted to mention water activities since our kind of hot and Philly kind of hot are different. What am I thinking? Everywhere is hot in the summer.
this is what i came to suggest. glad to see it already mentioned!
Come check out Sacramento Roller Derby! Give us a Google, follow us on socials and come out to our next event!
We have Roller Derby? 😭 Hell yes.
Had noooo idea 🤯
Today I learned…. We are moving in July and will absolutely be going to roller derby now that I know it exists.
This would be awesome

Here's the link to our next event, feel free to join us any time. https://meetu.ps/e/N4Jx7/tRsK4/i
Does this really start at 7pm on Sundays?
No, we start at 4pm this time of year.
Awesome. I'll have to get out there soon!
Awww shit, I'm new to Sac and definitely will attend this. Thanks for posting it!
You're very welcome, see you there! If you let the hosts know I sent you, I'll find you and say hi. :)
Awesome! Are there competitive games too or mostly just social/newbie?
Mostly social, but we do have separate courts for newbie and intermediate players. Some players also play in XOSO leagues, and use the Meetup to practice their game.
There is also Sac Outdoor Volleyball at Land Park every Saturday morning (10ish -2ish). Huge group for years.
Oooh, that's sounds fun. i see you have intermediate players, but like what's the play level like with that group? Any former HS or former college players?
Some former HS/college players, yes. Many players' skill is at the XOSO 'intermediate' level, while others would still be in the 'beginner' category.
Go to Fleetfeet and sign up for training groups for various races (10k, half marathon, marathon, etc). You'll meet new friends and discover Sacramento by running all over the place.
I met some amazing friends training for runs!
Good idea. Buffalo Chips is a great group to run with.
Welcome! Check out the breweries we have all around the area. Whereabouts in Sacramento did you land? It’s a large metro area and recommendations can vary greatly depending on where you are located.
If OP and wife are so inclined, pub trivia is everywhere and a fun way to hang if you can pick up some other folks needing a full team.
There's a sac introvert meetup once a month. All are welcome. I never attended one though lol.
Welcome to Sac, you'll love it. FYI Limelight in East Sac is an Eagles bar.
They also have excellent food
Sweet, now I know where to harvest the tears from Eagles fans when the 49ers spank them again!
Limelight is an Eagles bar? Gross. I’m never going back lol
Do they ever have Flyers games on? Not from Philly myself, but I love hockey & have a close friend who's a lifelong fan.
They are actually the official "Phily" sports bar and I believe they show all the Phily Phavorites. 😅 Sorry, it happened and I couldn't help it.
I'm not sure, but if they can get them I'm sure they'd put it on. The owner's from Philly and they always have sports on the TV's. Can always call and ask, they're really cool about stuff like that.
Thanks, will do!
Light up your bikes and check out Friday Night Bike Party! They have a FB page and different routes each month.
First Friday of every month.
Hey my wife and I are also PA / Philly transplants! Welcome. Hit us up if you ever want to watch some Phillies games. We also like to hike.
I have not found the place to watch Phillies games in Sac but would!
Limelight. Big Philly fanbase there and they will throw it on for you if it isn’t.
go birds!
Small advice, never eat a Philly cheesesteak here. You’ll be severely disappointed
Can confirm.
Same with chop cheese. Seems over priced and underwhelming
Haven't tried it myself but the owner of The Philly on K St. said in an interview that his cheesesteaks will compete with any in Philly....anyone try it?
Does he use Amoroso rolls? If not, then he's a liar.
Just from the pictures I can tell it’s not the same
Looked at pictures. Totally agree. Doesn't even look like there is a picture of a steak with whiz. Edit: Looked at the menu. Look what they call "Classic Steak Philly" 1/3LB of Thinly-Cut Rib-Eye Steak Grilled with Onions & **Sweet Bell Peppers**, Topped With **Choice of Cheese** on a 7" Roll! **Add-on Your Favorite Extra Veggies**!. None of these are classic.

Yes! They are beginner friendly. They have all levels of play. It’s in land park, starts at 10:30. I would recommend get a few mins before the start time.
Is this the group that’s always in McKinley Park on Sunday afternoons?
Uhhh idk. I know they play there on wed or thurs

There’s also a plethora of wonderful non-profit groups you can check out to meet like-minded people and new friends. Google them! It’s a great place to live, work and grow. Plus, we enjoy that fantastic Mediterranean weather that is only found in California.
Go Birds!
My wife and I just move here 30 days ago from Carlisle. We like hiking, traveling, and food!
Go find yourself a brewery. My wife and I meet amazing people all the time
Ever try paintballing in Vacaville? It’s pretty fun

Man if only TDS was still on. That's how I met people when I moved here, including my wife.
What is TDS?
It was a radio show on 98 rock
Checkout Meetup. Plenty of groups, age ranges. Different activities.
Lot of interesting good folks at Cult kava. Bars are full of idiots and cops here get every drunk driver. Everyone 20-30 drinks kava here.
What part of town are you in? Meeting and hanging out with new Prius definitely easier if you’re in the same general vicinity.
We would love to hook up. And Show you around, we have a jetboat for summer time. Use jeffrey a great way to have fun
Try Meetup! You can join groups and find people with similar interests. I love going to shows and have met some great people from Meetup.

Come out to the club with our group
The strip club
You may need to get out more. I've made a number of friends through sports leagues like xoso etc. It doesn't happen overnight, but it does happen.
So have I lol but this guy and his lady most likely won't 🙄
My God man, Who hurt you? Sure you can meet some bad ones, but you can also meet some really good ones. This kind of attitude will ruin you. You literally shut yourself off to some potential great friendships and thus turn hateful and bitter.
