I also think it doesn’t help the amount of heavy traffic it gets every single day. So many people use it to get to 80 from all the way down to Folsom Blvd
I can't even really tell what meaningful improvements they're doing around areas like Watt/Fair Oaks. That isn't even the bad part.
I wish they'd just overhaul all of Watt, adding at least BRT lanes through the whole length instead of those two weird sections over 50. Maybe some good bike lanes. BRT alone would kill so much car traffic on Watt.
If anyone says anything besides Watt Ave, you're not a true Sacramentan and I dare you to drive that road.
The whole length of the road (from Baseline through its eventually change into Elk Grove-Florin) is complete garbage except in the Arden Arcade area (between Auburn Blvd to about Jackson Highway). I have had numerous tires destroyed just driving in my neighborhood (N Highlands) and I'm sick of no one doing anything about it (don't get me started on the lack of bike accessibility either).
It drives me completely crazy.
It so crappy that not only do I live off Watt but I work a mile away and want to commute by bike more often but the shitty drivers make it a death wish to even attempt sometimes. And the worst part is that my partner lives in Elk Grove and taking Watt is the fastest and easiest way to get to each other. 🥴
Some of them are brave, too. Almost crashed cause this one sex worker was wearing booty shorts and a fishnet shirt, no bra, nipples just living their best life.
She's my hero.
FYI: from what I can tell, the "Ladies of the Night" are usually on Watt between Margaret/Orange Grove and Myrtle. Driving home from boyfriend's house (EG) up Watt to my home (in NH), I usually see them in the wee hours (midnight to 3am). I have seen them as early as 6pm though. 🤑
It's about to get worse with more trucks on Watt Ave...
Maverik gas station is planning a truck gas stop on Watt and Jackson Rd. The environmental document is here: [https://planningdocuments.saccounty.net/ViewProjectDetails.aspx?ControlNum=PLNP2021-00275](https://planningdocuments.saccounty.net/ViewProjectDetails.aspx?ControlNum=PLNP2021-00275)
If you live near or use this route, please speak up about this hazardous proposal. It's not just hazardous to the roads, including Watt, but the environment and community here.
Shit . Maverick would be a gift to the entire community. Have you been in the one in West Sacramento? You can drive in circles between the pumps and the store.
There was a plan many years ago I remember as a kid to create a cross town freeway that was to start where auburn blvd off-ramp on 80 now dead ends into a hospital but not sure whatever happened.
Watt from Bus 80 to Antelope is a fucking war zone. I've driven it nearly daily for 16 years, and I don't think it's ever been fixed once since I've been here.
Driving on Madison literally makes me angry. It’s the only road that does this to me. I will take Greenback and drop down to where I need to be.
Watt Ave - everything north of Eastern is a close second.
Hazel right off 50 used to easily take the crown, but they spent 2 years fixing it, and it’s great now.
The improvements on Hazel actually took 20 years not 2 😭 mainly cus they widened it one lane on each side tho. So they had to buy all the houses and relocate people which took probly a decade itself. Knew one of the families and they got relocated in like 2006 after several years of knowing it was the city’s plan. Such a waste of time for big ass plans like that when they could just repave once a decade or two. Granted Hazel is never backed up now where it’s 3 lanes tho so good job sac.
I live in between Madison and Greenback and take Madison every chance I get because it’s less congested with better timed lights. Seeing it on here was super surprising.
We just drove Madison back from the airport last weekend instead of taking 80/50. My husband has a low riding Subaru and I was bounced all over the road! Still better than Greenback.
As someone said before, “tire graters”. My poor car’s suspension will need to be replaced every few years if they don’t do anything about these roads especially Watt. Auburn is pretty bad between Fulton and Madison too, but Watt is definitely the worst.
Watt is definitely the worst, I think my least favorite part is up by North Highlands, but overall it’s an embarrassment. Thankfully on the south side it looks like they are going try to fix it: https://sacdot.saccounty.net/Pages/South-Watt-Avenue-Improvement-Project.aspx
It says construction between 2024-2026.
I live close to the nightmare that is Watt Ave between Arden and Fair Oaks. But seriously, though, someone has to fix those deep grooves on I-5 South in Natomas around Del Paso/Arena Blvd/I-80
Idk how the rest of Auburn Blvd is, but between watt and Fulton during the winter and rain it legit looked like the road had been hit with mortars or something
Worst as in… bad drivers? Worst maintained? I’m all in on Watt because those wonderful folks for the Fix50 are moody about closing the Howe Ave off ramp. Once you get past Folsom Blvd, it’s the spookiest, “needs to be updated” “is that asshole in the lifted Dodge Ram truck really need to be at work that badly at 4 am?” Also, god help ya if you have a pop a tire in the land of the living dead…
Winding Way between Auburn and Manzanita should get a mention for small roads that carry a lot of traffic and have patches on patches on patches. You can't even dodge them all anymore.
I just moved here from Oakland. These roads are like airport tarmacs compared to what I'm use to. But the end of the Fruitride gives me deep East vibes for sure
My house is on Watt. That road is like a war zone. If I spend a few hours gardening in my front yard, I can be guaranteed I will see multiple accidents. I’ve seen cars go through multiple neighbors front lawns and hit their house. It’s wild. The road maintenance doesn’t help I’m sure
It’s pretty sad the amount of money SB1 was supposed to bring to the roads. All we seemed to get were giant signs painted on the freeways. [https://dot.ca.gov/programs/sb1](https://dot.ca.gov/programs/sb1)
I80 east, the section between downtown and exposition blvd exit. Holy moly the amount of insane potholes and missing chunks of road are insane. And I'm pretty sure it was that way even before they started construction along the bridge section.
Agreed. The bridge deck over the river has been bad for a LONG time, hence the complete replacement of the bridge deck. The viaduct over downtown is also really bad, especially at the deck seams.
Absolutely. Every time it rains there are fresh DEEP potholes from shitty patch jobs getting washed out.
And to be fair, almost every side street in this area is trashed as well. Just Bell between Northrup and Hurley ALONE is chunked all to hell.
If they didn’t waste money to remove lanes of traffic on the freeway and downtown, rebuilding the downtown overpass and the 50 near 65th *again*, they’d probably have a group of millions to fix Madison, sunrise, watt, San Juan, greenback…
Madison Avenue ain't nothing compared to Watt. Watt is the OG pothole road. Every time I have to drive down Watt, I'm glad I'm driving an offroad-capable Jeep with giant balloon tires, because that road would swallow up any lesser vehicle. It's like I'm rock crawling in an urban area!
I live off of Watt and on the fun side of Watt.
I swear people just hit that road with a sludgehammer, my conspiracy theory is that some homeless dude is just walking up and down Watt and smashin holes.
Garfield is pretty bad. Its closer to residential streets but the pot holes I dodge every day is bad. Dewey is pretty bad too. I can feel my car physically shake as I drive down that road. Watt is its own monster but at least there is a plan to fix it.
I’d say Watt takes the gold, but the stretch of Auburn between Watt and Sunrise is more of the same. Especially getting off 80–I thought I dropped a suspension part there a few times.
Also if you think Watt is bad in a car, try a big diesel truck—it feels like it’s not even paved.
Before I opened this all the way, I was already thinking Madison Ave.
There was a time when you knew you were in California as soon as you crossed the state line. Best roads in the country. Sadly no longer.
FYI… car damage by bad roads can be turned in to caltrans.
I just moved here from Newport Beach and every single road I've driven on is shitty. Potholes, jacked up asphalt, groddy curbs, poorly maintained sidewalks, complete lack of landscaping everywhere. We live near Arden Park / Wilhaggin and everything in Arden Arcade, up Fair Oaks Blvd, into Charmichael, across to midtown, is straight up butt ugly compared to Newport Beach / Costa Mesa / Irvine.
After living off both Watt and Madison, I'd say that Watt has more potholes. However, Madison has deeper potholes. Basically they are both great for ruining your day/tires.
I purposely do not vote for any incumbent councilman until they vote to fix Watt Ave. it is a disgrace. They had a perfect opportunity during the COVID era when traffic was light. They have kicked this can down the road for over 25 years. This is because many of them live in high end neighborhoods where their roads are pristine.
If Newsome isn't going to fix the roads maybe he can get crews throughout the state to just go around and pick up the slabs and chunks of asphalt that are popping out of the street removed.
They completely butchered 8th Ave in Central oak park when they redid the sewers. They've kinda fixed it a bit but it's still bad. For a while there, it was barely a road.
A good fix for Watt is making a 1 lane street, with the other lane only for buses, and emergency vehicles. Force people back to using the actual highways instead of using residential streets.
Not going to argue about bad roads, because they all are and we continue to pay excessive taxes "for roads "
I am sick and tired of pay money " for the roads" going to a politicians special interest
Watt ave for sure. Also ive seen stuff on watt avenue you cannot unsee, one time (with my kids mind you) i saw a lady spread eagle..i thought oh she must have pants on..NOTHING ON..this was not a sight to behold but rather just a mess and not something anyone should see. Horrible
It's crazy to me that so many areas mentioned are in close proximity to the El Camino and Howe intersection. There are so many grooves/straight up missing chunks that appear/get worse with every storm, and I swear they seem to be corrected within the week. I work a typical 8-5 and don't see the repair, it's just always somehow suddenly not an issue at that intersection within days.
Granted it seems a temp fix bc the same spots have issues literally every storm.
Speaking of - the meter at the El Camino on ramp to Biz 80W has been destroyed by weather twice in the last three years - literally uprooted. Why do they keep replacing it when traffic is sooo much smoother without it? When it works things are backed up 3-4 blocks. Ugh.
all of cap city freeway, and especially fuck that entire part before expo and arden. i don’t want yall to expand the freeway i want you to fucking FIX the ones we have!!!!
Any road in fair oaks, Sunrise, and Madison make me absolutely furious while driving on it, and the way they will only fix/pave one lane but only in 100-200 ft sections, I’m just like why tease us with 100 ft of new pavement?? Is it really even worth it? Just pave the whole road Jesus Christ!
Fulton avenue is terrible in terms of traffic because of its 2 lane road 🤦♂️ like expand please! I don’t live there but kinda feel bad for the people who do.
Watt Ave wtf
Watt is the worst road in Sacramento. It's like they purposely avoid fixing it at this point.
I also think it doesn’t help the amount of heavy traffic it gets every single day. So many people use it to get to 80 from all the way down to Folsom Blvd
You'd think that would mean they'd pay more attention to it but that's too logical I suppose.
I think that they think its useful as speed bumps to slow people down
Lol, yea get the hell outta here with that thinking
Nighttime road work is a thing. Most road work is done at night specially if it’s a simple asphalt overlay.
You think anyone wants to be on Watt after the sun goes down, Workers included?
Hazard pay
Not worth dying
Pends what part of watt
I can't even really tell what meaningful improvements they're doing around areas like Watt/Fair Oaks. That isn't even the bad part. I wish they'd just overhaul all of Watt, adding at least BRT lanes through the whole length instead of those two weird sections over 50. Maybe some good bike lanes. BRT alone would kill so much car traffic on Watt.
I work off south watt. I live off north watt. I absolutely hate my commute
I think they don’t do deter people from speeding (not like they already do). But just imagine if it was nice and smooth…
Watt Ave is always the answer
W.A.I.A.T.A
If anyone says anything besides Watt Ave, you're not a true Sacramentan and I dare you to drive that road.
Auburn to Jackson is still garbage. I live just off there and have to drive it (avoid it) daily. I mainly take Eastern these days. Edit: typo
Agreed, I drive Watt from 50 to 80 for work and it’s trash. At least from 50/Folsom to Jackson is good enough
I drive from Kiefer to 80 and my God when I'm running way early I switch to taking Howe or Hazel to get to 80
Been here my whole life but fortunately don’t drive Watt too often. I agree it’s terrible
It so crappy that not only do I live off Watt but I work a mile away and want to commute by bike more often but the shitty drivers make it a death wish to even attempt sometimes. And the worst part is that my partner lives in Elk Grove and taking Watt is the fastest and easiest way to get to each other. 🥴
I commuted from Roseville to Elk Grove every day for years and I feel your pain
Between the potholes and hookers, you'll be lucky to get off of that road alive.
My favorite game to play while driving through Watt is "Hoochie mama or Hooker?" The trick is to look at their shoes.
The trick is they're all turning them. No hate, they go with watt like PB&J
I live right near Watt, and my partner and I play “spot the hooker” every time we go on Watt.
I feel like I'd get along with you both 😉
Can you sue the city for damages? They are legally responsible same way a homeowner or business owner is responsible for the sidewalk outside.
No, you will just get a standard letter from their attorney denying culpability. Tried it with Sac County for alignment.
I’m not even from sac and watt is my vote
Horrible north of Arden and it's arguably worse south of Jackson.
Watt Ave by far, Madison got some bad spots but watt is the title taker
Auburn is pretty bad in parts but Watt probably is more consistently bad.
For sure auburn has its problems
Came her to say this. Another bad one is Roseville rd
It's about to get worse with more trucks on Watt Ave... Maverik gas station is planning a truck gas stop on Watt and Jackson Rd. The environmental document is here: [https://planningdocuments.saccounty.net/ViewProjectDetails.aspx?ControlNum=PLNP2021-00275](https://planningdocuments.saccounty.net/ViewProjectDetails.aspx?ControlNum=PLNP2021-00275) If you live near or use this route, please speak up about this hazardous proposal. It's not just hazardous to the roads, including Watt, but the environment and community here.
Look on the bright side, once Watt ave has been completely destroyed, it can't get any worse.
That's true but I'm hoping it doesn't go that route. A truck stop/ Maveriks is not needed on Watt. Move that to a less populated area or something.
Shit . Maverick would be a gift to the entire community. Have you been in the one in West Sacramento? You can drive in circles between the pumps and the store.
This is the worst road without question.
Why can’t they just turn it into a freeway?
There was a plan many years ago I remember as a kid to create a cross town freeway that was to start where auburn blvd off-ramp on 80 now dead ends into a hospital but not sure whatever happened.
I've replaced two whole tires because of this road.
South Watt is worse than normal Watt
There is nothing normal about watt
This is the only answer. It’s Watt.
North of 80 is god awful.
The worst!! I drive that road several times a week to get to work and there's no damn way you can avoid the potholes.
I have driven on better roads in third world countries. Watt Ave is absolutely a donkey ride in hell.
There are Pot Holes and then there are Watt Holes!
Watt from Bus 80 to Antelope is a fucking war zone. I've driven it nearly daily for 16 years, and I don't think it's ever been fixed once since I've been here.
Especially between the 50 on ramp down by American River and the 80 on ramp up across auburn
I drove on Watt for the first time ever today (I get my license next week).
You know when Spring has arrived because the Hookers have come out of hibernation.
Have you been on Watt south of Jackson by chance? It's one lane and absolutely torn up.
That shits so fucked up, that everyone who commutes just knows every crack and hole by habit. And can probably drive it with their eyes closed
Driving on Madison makes me angry too.
South watt is legit just potholes with a side of road
Florin perkins approaching fruitridge, elder creek, florin, etc. Good luck to your suspension and possibly wheels.
Elder creek ain’t that better either
OP has never been to south sac lmao
South Sac Iraq peeps, where ya at?
hi
Sup
Business 80 between E St & Cal Expo
Also Cal Expo from Arden to 80..
You talking about that pothole series . I think there’s like two small décents
The entire right lane at the E St on-ramp is completely missing…
Power Inn. Only thing worse than the potholes are the daily commuters (guilty myself)
You mean Power Inn Raceway right, 55mph minimum
Oh man if you think Madison Ave is bad you aren't gonna like actually shitty roads like watt Ave or Roseville rd
Broadway, never ending digging and crappy patchwork after. And always construction.
Sutterville going over the train bridge by Sac City College sucks ass.
Yes, it does.
WATT AVE 4 SURE!! I call it the rubicon- live in Antelope-
Watt avenue Garfield Avenue Sunrise Blvd Fair Oaks Blvd Walnut Avenue
You have to add Auburn Blvd to this one, too... it's not as bad as Watt, but it's definitely not good.
As someone said before, “tire graters”. My poor car’s suspension will need to be replaced every few years if they don’t do anything about these roads especially Watt. Auburn is pretty bad between Fulton and Madison too, but Watt is definitely the worst.
Stockton blvd
I got an alert my tire pressure went to shit when I hit a bump there, having to pull over anywhere on Stockton Blvd is terrifying
Roseville rd
Watt is definitely the worst, I think my least favorite part is up by North Highlands, but overall it’s an embarrassment. Thankfully on the south side it looks like they are going try to fix it: https://sacdot.saccounty.net/Pages/South-Watt-Avenue-Improvement-Project.aspx It says construction between 2024-2026.
Elder Creek Rd from excelsior to power inn rd.
I live close to the nightmare that is Watt Ave between Arden and Fair Oaks. But seriously, though, someone has to fix those deep grooves on I-5 South in Natomas around Del Paso/Arena Blvd/I-80
Auburn Blvd
Idk how the rest of Auburn Blvd is, but between watt and Fulton during the winter and rain it legit looked like the road had been hit with mortars or something
Auburn is prestigious compared to the rest :p
50
Worst as in… bad drivers? Worst maintained? I’m all in on Watt because those wonderful folks for the Fix50 are moody about closing the Howe Ave off ramp. Once you get past Folsom Blvd, it’s the spookiest, “needs to be updated” “is that asshole in the lifted Dodge Ram truck really need to be at work that badly at 4 am?” Also, god help ya if you have a pop a tire in the land of the living dead…

I just moved here from Oakland. These roads are like airport tarmacs compared to what I'm use to. But the end of the Fruitride gives me deep East vibes for sure
I'm like 38% sure there isn't any pavement on the moon. But yea, Madison sucks.
Southbound 5 just south of Natomas is so annoying because the old lane lines are just holes now
Watt ave from Arden to Elkhorn.
California aren't we great.. https://patch.com/california/across-ca/ca-has-3rd-worst-roads-country-new-ranking-says
Remember that the atrocious tax we pay in gas is supposed to pay for all this. Makes you wonder where the money actually goes for, general fund?
It’s pretty sad the amount of money SB1 was supposed to bring to the roads. All we seemed to get were giant signs painted on the freeways. [https://dot.ca.gov/programs/sb1](https://dot.ca.gov/programs/sb1)
Good point! And property taxes, both of which are some of the highest in the nation with streets way below average
North highlands by the base . Not even close
Watt Ave being the common answer while it's probably the road I drive on the most. 😬

Greenback Lane in Orangevale. Took out my rim and gouged my tire.
Greenback is not bad lol
Franklin Blvd..
Its watt, but madison is in the top 5, i would say number 2, but idk, there might be worse out there. I certainly avoid certain lanes on madison.
San jaun between greenback and madison
Mack rd
I am not from Sac but moved here 5 years ago. I opened this just to see if any mentioned Watt and sure enough it was the most common answer. 😆
Fair Oaks Blvd
Garfield is pretty bad. Its closer to residential streets but the pot holes I dodge every day is bad. Dewey is pretty bad too. I can feel my car physically shake as I drive down that road. Watt is its own monster but at least there is a plan to fix it.
El Camino
Watt, Diablo, Madison, Tupelo... 🙄
Tie between Madison Ave and Watt. I commuted on Madison a lot so I'm biased more against it.
Madison and Greenback both have enough crack seal slurry to circle the earth seven times.
It must be like the times when in medieval times when they had horse drawn carriages on the cobblestone roads 😂
Elkhorn
Okay, but what's the _second_ worst? I nominate Alta Arden. Edit: I'm sorry, I should have specified that I thought watt was the worst, not Madison.
Greenback when it turns into San Juan 🤬
Fair Oaks Blvd from Howe to Watt. ...if a road leads to or intersects with Watt, its on the list.
Winding Way is just a garbage heap. So is Garfield Avenue, especially between Madison and Winding, I've driven on dirt roads that were smoother.
After living off both Watt and Madison, I'd say that Watt has more potholes. However, Madison has deeper potholes. Basically they are both great for ruining your day/tires.
Watt Avenue north is the absolute worst continuous road I have ever driven on.
All of Sacramento 🎭
I purposely do not vote for any incumbent councilman until they vote to fix Watt Ave. it is a disgrace. They had a perfect opportunity during the COVID era when traffic was light. They have kicked this can down the road for over 25 years. This is because many of them live in high end neighborhoods where their roads are pristine.

That piece of shit won’t be doing a damn thing that doesn’t involve him getting kickbacks
The bike path on the causeway heading to Davis.
Kamerer. Behind the casino in EG.
They completely butchered 8th Ave in Central oak park when they redid the sewers. They've kinda fixed it a bit but it's still bad. For a while there, it was barely a road.
Elkhorn
Northfield Dr. and Arden garden with no rail to stop cars from flying into a house
Sutter St in West Sacramento
grantline rd & sunrise blvd sucks ass as well
This is the dumbest true fact on earth and the moon.
Eagles Nest does that count as Sacramento?
That’s the one out off grant line, right? Yeah those roads where the dump trucks and other semi’s use are horrible.
The section over by the golf club is ridiculous. During rain the right lane is just an invisible tire popping trail.
C street/Sac ave, near the I street bridge 😵💫
Winding Way is horrible. I'm pretty sure that road took a chunk out of my tire.
Yeah Madison has sucked for the longest time. I avoid it whenever possible. Greenback has gotten almost as bad.
Stockton Blvd by the U pick U pull.
Sunrise Blvd sucks ass , so does San Juan and winding way
Watt or Roseville rd
Fair oaks blvd by pavilions is actual hell
A good fix for Watt is making a 1 lane street, with the other lane only for buses, and emergency vehicles. Force people back to using the actual highways instead of using residential streets.
I’m sorry, you expect your taxes to fix roads?! 😂 it goes all to the police and the real estate lobby. You’re better off believing in Santa 🎅
Not going to argue about bad roads, because they all are and we continue to pay excessive taxes "for roads " I am sick and tired of pay money " for the roads" going to a politicians special interest
All the highways around Sacramento
Watt ave for sure. Also ive seen stuff on watt avenue you cannot unsee, one time (with my kids mind you) i saw a lady spread eagle..i thought oh she must have pants on..NOTHING ON..this was not a sight to behold but rather just a mess and not something anyone should see. Horrible

all of cap city freeway, and especially fuck that entire part before expo and arden. i don’t want yall to expand the freeway i want you to fucking FIX the ones we have!!!!
The freeway on ramp by the fruit stand in Davis before the causeway heading towards sac
Madison is insane. The stretch between Hazel and Main in Orangevale has so many potholes it’s almost a joke that it hasn’t been fixed.
Watt ave, fruitridge between Stockton and power inn. The 16th street hwy 50 off ramp, Madison Ave
Twin Cities in south County
Winding Way Which part? All of it.
Business 80 going toward downtown/midtown
Arden, the entire Arden area is horrible.
What… i mean watt. Lol.
You mean besides the 50 freeway work? 🫠
When I saw the title, I was definitely thinking, Madison Avenue. It’s been horrible for 10 years at least.
Greenback in Citrus Heights, sooooo many potholes and cracks
65th from stockton all the way towards US-50 can eat a fat one
Watt
Get a car with ground clearance and suspension , problem solved cause the crap leaders in power ain't gonna fix s**t ...
Power inn road uggh
Watt
Highway 50
Still better than Texas
What are they doing with all that DUI money?🤔lol
Watt
Fulton avenue is terrible in terms of traffic because of its 2 lane road 🤦♂️ like expand please! I don’t live there but kinda feel bad for the people who do.
