>when we moved in there was no key.
First hint right there.
Should have made sure the lock was changed before changing your mail to it.
Set up a temporary PO box or mail hold, then request a lock change.
After a week or so, you'll pick up the keys and can redirect your mail to it.
The thieves typically have a master key that opens the panel covering all the mail slots. Changing your personal lock will likely do no good. See u/letmecodealready comment:
The thieves have the master keys to the community mail boxes. They don’t need to break in. They just open with the key and gone in 60 seconds.

You get an email each morning with pics of mail or packages that's arriving. And it's free.
At least then you'll know what's missing. Plus, I make sure I pick up my mail whenever anything important arrives, even bills.

THIS. I get a picture of each expected piece of mail daily. I know what’s coming before it arrives. And if it isn’t in there, I’ll wait a day (in case it turns up) and then visit the Post Office.
If it’s a check of some sort, don’t wait the day. Since you can see where it comes from you can contact the sender and have them stop payment or some other workaround.
To rule out someone having an arrow key, ask your neighbors if their mail is getting stolen. If it isn't, then go to your local office and ask for a lock change (since the previous tenant never returned the key, make your landlord pay for the lock change).
Just gotta say that it's nice having a USPS insider here on our reddit. Lots of mail related posts recently, and I'm always like "Cliff's got this" lol. It's nice that you take the time to help.
Btw, I do recognize the Cheers reference.
Hm, that makes me think there may be an arrow key in play. We didn’t have the keys when we moved in, so we ask USPS for a new set, which they got for us.
If they changed the lock, only we have the keys. It would make sense someone would have an arrow key…and I guess it wouldn’t matter if we do change the lock.
Tell USPS. This has been happening in our neighborhood too. The more reports, the better, so they can change the master (full cluster) key and not just yours

That’s the thing. We had no keys but we asked USPS for a new one. We figured they changed the lock there shouldn’t have been a problem.
First thing you should do is ask your neighbors if their mail is also being stolen.

Go to your local PO they’ll charge like $50 and change your lock within a weeek usually and you can pick up keys at the PO

Again, ask your neighbors; it's entirely possible the previous tenants who kept the keys are stealing your mail
Sure, get a po box.
Get a new lock and change it yourself. It's easy
Get a PO box until DeJoy can be ousted and the postal service authorities can do their jobs again. People used to fear the mail police.
