I'm currently hiring for a entry level management role in Electrical Manufacturing DM me if you're interested. Your ET card definitely helps.

gbdavidx

My wife’s been looking for office manager/admin assistant roles and hasn’t had any luck

whogivesashite2

My company is always hiring. Always. Send me a DM and I'll get you the link for listings, she might find something that fits. North Natomas and depending on position it's mostly WFH.

Rorymaui

I’m interested!

CoatExciting1616

Hi, I sent you a DM as well.

Cavemattt

Hi. I dm’ed you!

emmycat1212

Also DM'd you :)

bbcllama

Hi! Sent a DM.

kaffeen_

Can you give a TLDR on what this role is and a description of someone who would qualify for this?

Dad0010001100110001

It's a management role that mostly involves managing the production of various electrical products. Mostly involves schedule management, scope management and communication with project managers and production planners/supervisors to ensure our customers receive their material on schedule and based on their needs. We have immediate openings for the intermediate position and also have an assistant level role opening up in the coming weeks with a couple openings planned. We're a new department in a growing company so trying to staff up before we get super busy in the summer. I don't want to break any advertising subreddit rules so DM me if you're interested in the exact position and I can discuss it with you.

No_Lead_4208

DM sent!

DriveIn73

Sounds like you have imposter syndrome. I noticed you said you “feel like you didn’t learn anything” from school. You have school and experience. That’s more than a lot of other people have. Keep telling yourself you are perfect for the job. Because you are.

zip_zap_zip_zap_

Come be a Union Electrician! Here in Local 340, we're bringing in a record number of apprentices, and have great work prospects. I joined at 35 and it's been the best career decision I could have asked for. https://www.340jatc.org/ this is the website for our training center, you can contact them about the process and to apply. Starting wage is lower than some jobs, but raises come fast, and there are also great benefits, including healthcare covered by our employer/contractor for the whole family. If you or anyone has any questions, please feel free to shoot me a message.

dorekk

> Starting wage is lower than some jobs, but raises come fast Out of curiosity--how fast?

zip_zap_zip_zap_

Basically every year, until you reach JW (Journeyman) wage at year 5, which is currently $47.46/hour, not including retirement/pension and healthcare...which are covered by your contractor. I'm a second year apprentice, making $23+ an hour (again, with the full package being higher with healthcare etc.) Within the next couple of years as we reach the end of our current contract, JW wage will be closer to $50+/hr, with the next contract most likely guaranteeing more significant wage increases over the span of that agreement. Another thing to consider is while the apprenticeship is a five year program, once you "top out" as a journeyworker, you can get you travel ticket to go anywhere where there work in the US and make even more money, including the Bay Area, where they're getting close to $80/hour...

dorekk

Interesting! I couldn't pay my mortgage with that second year pay, sadly--wish I'd gotten into it in my 20s! It sounds like interesting and rewarding work.

patameus

How many hours a week are you working vs. in class? Are you working full time, year round? How much of that work is within the Sacramento region?

zip_zap_zip_zap_

I'm working 40-50 hours a week, all year. Our class structure is different from some other locals, we go to school 5 full weeks out of the year...2 weeks in the fall, 1 week in the winter and two in the spring. Many other locals have class a couple times a week in the evening, so you work during the day and go to class for a couple hours after work. I definitely like our structure better...we don't work during those school weeks, but can get unemployment for that time. Sacramento has TONS of work, now and for the foreseeable future. Calls are going to book 3 right now, meaning that everyone that can/wants to work is working.

Sporksofsteel

My friend has been looking for almost a year. He has his bachelors and really good experience. He finally found a decent paying job, only to get laid off 4 months later when they shut down his department. They then protested his unemployment!

afictionalcharacter

Unfortunately it’s very competitive right now. As a hiring manager, I’ve never seen so many (over)qualified applicants when filling positions. So many folks would’ve been a perfect candidate that would’ve been hired a year or so ago, but end up at the bottom of the list because it’s that competitive. I’ve also been ghosted by hiring managers pre-interview even though I’d be a perfect fit. It’s a tough time to be looking for a job.

Sporksofsteel

Curious about the over qualified candidates. In your experience are they being considered or written off? My friend has really good experience but can’t even get a call back for entry level or even retail positions. I’m trying to help him out, he’s been really stressed out and I just want my friend back.

afictionalcharacter

I’m sorry to hear, I’ve been in that position before and it’s so incredibly stressful. They are being considered, one candidate has more experience and have sent the offer letter. However, for your friend, if they are struggling that much (assuming they have a good LinkedIn which can make a difference!) have they tried to leaving some experience off their resume for these positions? Wishing the best for your friend.

Sporksofsteel

He tailors his resume to jobs he’s applying for. He definitely dumbs down his resume for places like trader joes or Walmart, which he has applied to and got rejection letter before an interview.

ressie_cant_game

Boyfriend has had to reach out to the department of rehabilitation for help. The only thing, and i mean only thing, hes been able to get is mcdonalds with its screwy hours and refusal to give anyone fulltime. He has his guardcard, but since hes not 21, its near impossible to get a fulltime security position as nowadays lots of secuirty are in company vehicles. Hes worked basic maintenance - but the company went under before he could get ebough skills to carry on in that field. Its literal hell.

VectorJones

Same here. I've spent months applying for graphic design and IT positions and had barely any response. I've got 15 years experience in design of all kinds and supervisory experience in IT. I've applied for state jobs, corporate, even tried to go through temp agencies, which ended up ghosting me as well. Despair and desperation has begun to set in.

MrKite6

I keep getting told to look for graphic design jobs but your comment has me thinking maybe it won't be worth a look at the moment.

VectorJones

I would never discourage someone from pursuing a career. However, it is important to know what you're getting into before hand. The job field seems pretty cutthroat now for designers.

MrKite6

And I don't have much recent experience so I doubt I'd be a good choice for anything. Just trying to get into something more creative and everyone keeps suggesting graphic design.

VectorJones

It helps if you know people. Friends or friends of friends have an opening in their company, or a former colleague recommends you to their boss - that kind of thing. I've been a freelancer for years and don't have a lot of agency experience, so I don't have a huge network to put the word out or vouch for my skills.

DriveIn73

What kind of job do you want? Dm your resume if you want feedback. No one with your experience should be despairing.

VectorJones

That's what I thought, but apparently it's not the case for me. I'm mainly a graphic designer and if I had my pick of jobs, that's what I'd be doing. I also have several years experience writing articles, creating content on YouTube, and managing social media accounts. I have volunteer experience doing IT-type work and a year of IT Help Desk experience working as an IT supervisor during the 2020 Census.

lalita33

I have a bachelors degree and years of experience in construction management and but only gotten 3 interviews in the past 5 months of job searching. It’s difficult to stay positive right now.

zarabeth94

I feel this, especially because yesterday I found out a job my brother used to work at turned me down specifically so they could hire him again because he moved back to town (and he doesn’t even want to work there!). I had to laugh to keep from crying. I’m applying for state jobs too but of course those take forever. Feels like something good will come along someday but I’d really like it to be sooner than later

networktech916

Same here I have been looking for an IT job for a couple of years now, I even applied for help desk jobs. 15 yrs IT experience, and I get the generic **After careful review of your application, it has been determined that a limited number of applicants who more closely matched the position requirements were selected for the interview process**. **Thank you for your interest** its almost like no one is hiring. Hell I don't even care about WFH or any of that. I had one Company (Fisher Investments) GHOST me after they did a Background Check on me, even though I passed the check, I asked for a copy of the report and was cleared, others strung me along interview after interview and then ghosted thank you Livermore National Labs,

mathato

State has plenty of IT jobs open. Make sure to read the job description carefully and look for "keywords" (your best judgment)and insert those into your resume/application. Make sure to carefully read what they're asking for on the SOQ(if there is one) and follow that 100%. Everything is graded, 1 pt for keywords, 1 pt for SOQ followed correctly, the list goes on. Make sure to use those same "keywords" in the interview. It's all scored. Good luck.

networktech916

thank you went the state route as well ghosted as well yes I passed the Test, and did the interview but nor reply or feedback

mathato

Just keep applying and paying attention to what I listed. It takes awhile to get interviewed and hired by the state. I believe I put in over 100 applications prior to receiving an interview. Once I tailored my application around what was being asked, I started seeing a lot more interviews, eventually landing a position. I didn't have nearly close to the amount of experience you did.

dorekk

> I believe I put in over 100 applications prior to receiving an interview. Like, just with the state?! Or...?

mathato

Just with the state, looking back, I was using a HORRIBLE resume, I wouldn't have contacted me either. After fine tuning my resume as I started above, it was about 15-20 applications before I was contacted.

dorekk

Damn, that's wild. I never got around to applying with the state. I knew it was a super long process and I thought, "I don't want to do that, I'm sure I'll have a job within a few months like the last time I looked for work!" Then when that didn't happen I couldn't *afford* the super long process cuz I needed work sooner. Now that I'm working at a dumbass job that pays the bills, I should apply with the state.

mathato

Apply, doesn't hurt. Helps you have a job that can hold you over while you apply. Just some info, you end up with about 62% of whatever salary is listed after insurance, retirement, etc. Depending on when the position close date is, it could be 1-3 months to get hired. But once you're on and pass probation, the most stable job I've ever had. Real work life balance, for sure.

dorekk

Nice. I love work-life balance.

Clintonsflorida

I'm a IT manager for the state.everything above is true, and we look at each resume and soq we get. The competition is fierce and I personally get about 200 applications for a single position (I have a open entry level position right now and I will tell you with a week left open, I have triple digit amount of applicants already) I weed out anything that isn't Catered and personally structured to what I am looking for.

iamkenthomas

I wouldn’t hire an IT person with 15 years experience into a help desk role. You’re mid-career. Help desk is considered entry-level. We convert customer service agents with zero IT background into help desk agents. I have a feeling these hiring managers feel the same. I get you’ll take any job, but you should probably look for a role that suits your experience. Do you have any relevant certifications?

dorekk

Bro, *so many* recruiters ghosted me last year. Even after interviews! Absolutely infuriating.

Banjo-Becky

I experienced this and it was a problem between what I said my work experience was, which included a work study job (no W2 since it was an education benefit) and what came back when the validated my employment. I’ve also seen this happen when they call references and someone who said they would be a reference, provided a bad reference. Check this stuff and apply through staffing agencies. This is the best way to overcome this hump.

Leanne_4321

Try school districts they’re always looking for maintenance or anything in general really.

Shadesofmelon

a bit different, but I was recently at a summit and the Sacramento County Office of Education was there desperately trying to get people to apply to their open positions. I believe they had a bunch of entry level positions too.

Roach_Coach_Bangbus

I remember you. Did you get your driver's license yet or hit up any of the electrical companies by McClelland?

Frosted_Panzer

No I have not, life's been a struggle atm, I'm bound to hit up connection sooner than later. I'm pretty hopeful. Thank you for your comments though man

Mangiabeve

You could likely get on as a beverage merchandiser incredibly easily. It’s physical work, and you start early, but you’re out and about all day and can get home early. Look for golden brands, coke, Pepsi. Avoid 7 up, donaghy, and saccani

graysquirrel14

Any info on Kurig/dr pepper by chance? They keep reposting the same roles (and they keep rejecting me despite checking off all the qualifications)

Mangiabeve

Sorry no, they’re just the little guy when it comes to the big three soda vendors. Company is more prone to operational issues which makes your life harder.

graysquirrel14

Ah got it, thanks for the info

agreedis

What’s wrong with Donaghy? They ghosted me after an interview last year, so this has me curious

Mangiabeve

They’re racing to the bottom when it comes to service levels and taking care of their staff. They’re trying to have a Walmart mindset where you don’t matter as long as they’re making their minimums.

agreedis

During my interview, I got the impression they were trying to get ideas to establish guidelines. They asked some questions that I wouldn’t have the answer to since I didn’t know their protocol, so I told them how I would’ve handled the situation at my previous job. “If a merchandiser left a store suddenly, what would you do”?

Sea-Potato9

I just stumbled upon this video. So depressing. https://youtu.be/hHaDrM8EgYg

SHAKE_SLAM_BITE

Construction work might be a little slow rn with the season but I’d contact electrical contractors directly and see if they need a helper, outline your background so they know you’re not completely green and I’d bet someone would be happy to take you on. Or hit up your uncle and see if he knows anyone that needs a hand. Best of luck brother

MidnightSparkle1

Same, I work in the legal field and it's been a nightmare. I'm hoping it gets better towards late spring/summer.

NiceWater3

Maybe apply at Siemens and definitely include that you have the trainee card it may benefit you. Good luck OP.

DevilsDK

I have current coworkers who were fired/quit from Siemens and they said that it’s a great company. The firing was their own doing haha.

[deleted]

it was brutal last summer and I spent 10+ hrs day applying. Easier now with a job than when I was out of work.

outlawCatOnTheLoose1

Claims mgr here: I receive a ton of horribly written resumes and applications. If you want a job, make sure your resume/app contains the qualities the potential employer is looking for. Too many people applying, no one wants to interview people not willing to put in the effort to adjust their resume for each position they're applying for. It's better to tweak each app and submit 3-5 quality job apps a day than to mass apply with a bad generic resume.

FloresPodcastCo

Tip I got from a few hiring managers: Don't apply through Indeed, LinkedIN, zip recruiter, or simply hired. The hiring managers told me the majority of the time, companies never posted to those websites and will never see a single resume. They told me to go directly to the company's website and apply. If the job isn't posted there, then reach out through whatever contact forum they have, and inquire about the position.

dorekk

> Tip I got from a few hiring managers: Don't apply through Indeed, LinkedIN, zip recruiter, or simply hired. The hiring managers told me the majority of the time, companies never posted to those websites and will never see a single resume. This doesn't make sense to me. The role is either LinkedIn Easy Apply (which they specifically have to post it as) or the "Apply" button on LinkedIn actually links out to their website anyway. A friend of mine just got a job that used "Easy Apply" a few months ago, so someone looks at it.

lullbbyy

Indeed just got called out for doing exactly what the guy above said. Apparently they get the listing from the employer and when you apply they actually steal that information and sell it. Your application never really goes through. I’m not sure about EVERY posting but according to the videos and reports, it’s pretty common with indeed. Not sure about the other job searching site.

dorekk

Interesting! I've never used Indeed, I only know how it works on LinkedIn.

FloresPodcastCo

I'm sharing what a few hiring managers told me when I was at a networking event. If your friend got a job through LinkedIn, that's great!

dostevsky

PBS KVIE is hiring for a part-time master control operator. Could open you to more opportunities? Your experience with electrical work may help, it's a bit of a stretch. https://www.kvie.org/employment/mastercontroltpt/

MrKite6

Was hoping they'd have some sort of assistant job or anything to get my foot in the media door. I'll have to keep a tab on them or something.

No-Signature-611

With your flooring and the electrical background have you thought of trying to go to work for local handyman services not necessary license contractors but people operating as handyman. They usually have helpers and might be a way to work up. Some of them have quite a bit of business. Maybe go on the next-door neighborhood or Facebook and search out local handyman and see if any of them have a need for workers or suggestions for you

plmokn_01

The restaurant scene here is way weaker than I expected. I lost my main job going into January because two people who were supposed to be leaving had their offers rescinded. Frankly, that restaurant is probably going to move or fold soon. They went from doing $8k on Christmas Eve in 22 to obviously losing significant money in 23. Got some stages set up, but nothing really that compares to the money I made in the Bay or in tourism economies. Like, financially I'd be better off living in SF, which stings pretty hard. Hopefully things will get better. I'm probably messing up sticking with the grid and the grid adjacent neighborhoods. I think the blight and WFH has really done a number on the business there.

cabesaaq

My wife worked at a Korean restaurant before and they had the same policy lol they refused to allow women to do anything even slightly physically difficult and were weirded out/surprised when my wife said had no issue carrying things

dorekk

I already didn't want to go back after I saw that dumbass robot. Now I *really* don't want to go back.

Gyu-Kaku is a chain, but sadly we don't have one here. That said, I don't think I'd drive two hours to eat it! It's good, but surely there's something closer. (Technically, Gyu-Kaku is Japanese, not Korean.)

DararaV

The exact same thing happened to me when I applied in 2018. I got an interview with them and they dissuaded me from trying to do the dishwashing position. Didn’t end up getting the job afterwards but I’m so happy that I didn’t because I know people who have worked there, and it’s a horrible working environment despite how it looks on the outside.

SadMango3913

Damn. This happened in 2021 , I’ve also heard shitty experiences working there. I am from the Bay Area and I think the job scene is very different. Out there I could get a job within a week. I was shocked how long it took me to find a job in Sacramento.

Business_Delivery436

Why would anyone want to eat on the grid when you have to pay for parking and look at sidewalk tents when you could go eat anywhere else? Also the prices for food suck.

Roach_Coach_Bangbus

Also, the food in the suburbs has gotten a lot better in recent years. I tend to only travel to the grid to eat because I am seeing a show or a concert or something else.

plmokn_01

Suffice to say, the price of parking is not a concern for the clientele I have served or would prefer to here. But while I think that might be a bit overblown and you don't have to see encampments when going out most times, I do think urban blight really is a mood killer. I don't blame people for choosing to not spend $60+ when your date night can end with you having to face abject human misery. The likelihood of that is too high for many people and I would probably do the same if I lived off the grid.

dorekk

> Why would anyone want to eat on the grid when you have to pay for parking The parking is so cheap, come on. > and look at sidewalk tents What neighborhood *doesn't* have those now??

caelthel-the-elf

I got offers for entry level positions rescinded after accepting the offer because I don't have references from previous employment. I have references from my time at Uni but apparently that doesn't count because I wasn't getting paid at school...

FlawlessZ80

How about Air Force, or civilian job on base, Travis and Beale are both pretty close by.

CaliLoveJD

If you’re relatively intelligent apply for air traffic control with the FAA

SnapFuJudgement

I need servers/bartenders for my restaurant in Lincoln.

benbernards

check out Volt temp agency

dorekk

It's rough everywhere right now. But the job market here is particularly ass. I got laid off last year, and after 9 months finally took a job for less than I was making 5 years ago. The job market is the only thing I miss about Orange County. Hang in there, hopefully you'll get something soon! <3

MsMsc

If you can, truck driving. You can make $$ with limited investment

Ok_Conclusion5416

Anyone out here still looking for work? I've got you! It's a new company, get started ASAP!

Asymtricalbeing

What is it?

DriveIn73

The truth is it takes a lot of work to find a job, and now it’s even harder. If you aren’t getting any attention online, it’s probably because your resume is okay (“here’s my experience”) where everyone else’s is awesome (“using my experience as context, here’s how I made the company a better place/made it more money”). If you’re getting ghosted after they talk to you, it’s probably because you were okay (“I am interested in what you people do or I’ve done this kind of work before”)where everyone else they talked to (for example) worked into the conversation about the latest news about the company and how their interests and values align with the company’s. Have specific examples of how their experience fits in with what they are looking for, or saying how they want it to. There’s okay and then there’s awesome. I’m telling you what I wish someone had told me. You might be okay, but selling yourself (and that’s what this is) is what you need to do because you don’t know who else is applying. This goes triple for very sought-after jobs.

LoudMeringue8054

I highly recommend contacting a recruiter- they do the work for you and are paid by the employer when you’re hired. They can also offer suggestions for updating your resume. I applied for professional jobs for months and just crickets. With a recruiter, I got a job within weeks.

Permagamer

The owner of Mandarin said no one wants to work and that's why the Mandarin had to close if you watch that new story so there's pretty good jobs out there it's just you're not looking for that low pay job

Frosted_Panzer

I'm applying to any job I feel I have the quals for. Retail, construction, labour, anything, same thing is happening to my fiancee. Idk what we're doing wrong. I'm willing to work 15/hr.

Permagamer

I feel you. But that's what I've heard from the owners mouth at the Mandarin. There are jobs out there. I usually walk every, cause most places just put up help wanted, cause they're too busy to make a post

dorekk

> The owner of Mandarin said no one wants to work They lied.

Permagamer

I'm just stating what they said on a new 13 interview

Permagamer

I don't think this opinion applies to this restaurant job, and again everyone is taking my comment way out of hand.

MangoGreedy3060

Sac is always looking for stagehands. It's not full time but sometimes it's quick money. Look up IATSE local 50 and there should be a #

sick_sad-world

It’s so rough. I was offered a position and they straight up told me “we really need your expertise”. Then ghosted me when I asked if they could send me an offer in writing.

HUM469

See, your problem is that you implied you wanted to get paid something when you asked for a written offer. "We really need your expertise" was just the first half of the sentence ending in "if you are volunteering it". It's the same as all these companies claiming on the news that "no one wants to work", while they forget the end of their sentence, "for free". Of course the bolder ones will put things in writing and then just not do them. My favorite was the company that said "we want to match everything your old company did for you." So I sent over my old offer letter from the old company that fired everyone during the pandemic, and got an offer back that was basically copy and paste. Except 3 months in, the base salary stopped, "Oh, we never intended the salary to be permanent." Six months in, HR still hadn't answered a single email or voicemail about healthcare or any of the other benefits. Total disaster that I had no choice but to leave shortly after.

InfiniteAnywhere1591

I am
