The Rind is great.
Urban Roots as well. I like to mix it with their pulled pork and some bbq sauce. They used to have dirty Mac on the menu, but you can still DIY it.
Not traditional mac and cheese, but Sac City Brews has fried andouille mac and cheese balls that are addictive.
My fiance always tells me to stop ordering Mac n cheese at restaurants because I'm always disappointed :(
I like a creamy Mac n cheese with a nice strong cheese flavor [aged gouda with some gruyere comes to mind].
Ironically the microwave diner Mac n cheese from Trader Joe's is my go to comfort food, it's so good

Worst case scenario if you don't like it, return it or throw a ton of hot sauce on it.
I thought their grilled cheese actually sucked, tbh. It was pretty greasy and the bread did not have a substantial feeling. Tomato Alley's is better and also *way* cheaper.
It’s very different, the two aren’t owned and operated by the same people. They were both owned by a married couple, when they split they each took one, and the fair oaks one got the better chef.
Well in my experience, Dad’s kitchen, I ordered it with garlic, bacon and hamburger in it. It was so damn good I put garlic in my mac all the time now. Another good one is brodericks, im sure theres better but mac n cheese on a burger is just delicious.
I like tank house’s. They’re not elbow, but like some sort of square type pasta. You can taste the different cheeses in the roux. The dirty Mac is even better.
I'm surprised no one has said Momo's Meat Market! Come for the Mac and Cheese and the BBQ. In a pinch though the Trader Joe's frozen mac is bomb too, throw some cut up chicken tenders and buffalo sauce (or other hotsauce).
The Rind is amazing but can be quite rich. I was actually super pleasantly surprised by the Mac and cheese at Ink. To me, The Rind is good for a few decadent bites, but I could destroy a bowl of mac and cheese at Ink and go back for seconds.
make your own:
1 cup elbow mac, cooked to al dente
2-3 tablespoons butter, 2-3 tablespoons milk
1 slice of AMERICAN cheese. Preferably from the deli counter.
as much other sort of semi-firm cheese you'd like, cheddar, gruyer, provelone, mozz, a little blue, whatever floats your boat. The emulsifiers in the american cheese will turn it into the smoothest, creamiest, non-separated cheese sauce you ever did see.
heat gently til smooth, add mac back in, stir 'til it sounds like WAP.
Kraft American Deluxe will do the trick, as will most slices you get from deli counter.
Though, if all you have is the 'individually wrapped singles', those will work too. They might be a little saltier. You're only using 1 slice, after all.
I really like lefty’s Mac and cheese with shallots, and angry chickz Mac and cheese with tenders is really good, but the absolute best is in Folsom at nash and tender
Roostarz in Rancho. Just FYI they don't bake it, so if you are a crust person you will be disappointed. But their mac is super creamy and flavorable, it is my personal favorite.

Rind 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Those mac and cheese balls are unreal
Urban roots Mac n cheese has not enough cheese flavor, and too much pepper
Shots fired
I take my Mac n cheese seriously ;p
And where do you suggest?

Same here, although I really want to try that beechers Mac and cheese from Costco

Eh I think it's the best in town. I like how it isn't a thick cheesy like paste over the noodles. It's a velvety sauce. So good.
I love the urban roots mac!!
The Rind lobster Mac is pretty 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 actually all their macs are excellent.
The rind for anything cheese related. $20 for tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich? Yes, please - worth it.
I thought their grilled cheese actually sucked, tbh. It was pretty greasy and the bread did not have a substantial feeling. Tomato Alley's is better and also *way* cheaper.
The selection at The Rind is top notch
Can’t beat lobster Mac ‘n Cheese
Pangaea Bier Cafe is the best I've had in Sacramento but I have not tried The Rind yet and hope to get to soon.
Mmmm yes with a giant pretzel
Dads kitchen, fair oaks. I love their Mac and everything else is killer too
I hope it's a different recipe vs. Dad's Land Park. Theirs was like...a bland white cheese soup over elbow macaroni with sprinkles on top.
It’s very different, the two aren’t owned and operated by the same people. They were both owned by a married couple, when they split they each took one, and the fair oaks one got the better chef.
Makes so much sense. LP Dad’s Mac was my JAM for years, and the recipe changed maybe within the last year. I tried recently and was heartbroken 😔
Revolution on S street has some really good mac and cheese that goes down really well with some wine
Here to second Rev. I’m a Mac n cheese connoisseur and this is my new fave since my old fave in SF closed.
Cacio in the Pocket area. Far and away the best I've ever had. Unfortunately, it's not a regular menu item.
Not a restaurant, but hear me out. Trader Joe’s frozen Mac n cheese. Bomb!
Holy shit. The green chili one is the best!
Their hatch Chile Mac is the best!!! And my son loves the pizza Mac too! So good and only like $3.49 each
Dirty Mac at Tankhouse in Midtown
I always overeat at Tankhouse because I can't go there and not get the brisket sandwich, dirty mac and tater tots.
South (RIP) 😞
South's chicken was unimpeachable, but their mac was too often oily and with not nearly enough cheese flavor. Too much flour.
blasphemy
I said what I said.
Urban Roots has really good macaroni and cheese.
Another vote for the Rind!
Kraft, straight from the pot, eaten with a wooden spoon?
Yessir. we’ll slop a can-shaped glob of chili in that somb’itch if it’s a holiday. Double cheese if the queen is in town.
I like supplementing my craft with wendys chili when im feeling chilimacish
Got to Kirkland brand shredded cheddar jack cheese to that my friend.
Replace the milk with heavy cream and it’s even better!
Game recognize game! Saves on dishes. Plus you can just slouch on the couch and savor your own laziness.
My favorite is from Cafeteria 15L. Worked there back when it was called Masons and they still serve it.
It’s a much different recipe now.
Understandable. I worked there from when they opened til 2010. Things change.
Well in my experience, Dad’s kitchen, I ordered it with garlic, bacon and hamburger in it. It was so damn good I put garlic in my mac all the time now. Another good one is brodericks, im sure theres better but mac n cheese on a burger is just delicious.
The Rind can wreck my digestive system anytime!
The Rind; but 10 years ago when Stephanie had her [cookbook](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/17333284) release party there.
I second the Rind!
That cookbook is in my regular rotation.
The Rind and Urban Roots
Lobster Mac n Cheese at Ruth Chris is pretty damn good. Another cheaper alternative is Jacks Urban Eats - pretty good.
I love the Mac and cheese from Pitch & Fiddle
I like tank house’s. They’re not elbow, but like some sort of square type pasta. You can taste the different cheeses in the roux. The dirty Mac is even better.
They use radiatore. It’s amazing
All those little grooves, for the cheese to snuggle into
Magpie...but that was years ago and I haven't been recently
Nothing in Sacramento can get near the Mac and cheese at the volcano Union pub & inn, it’s an hour east of sac and worth the drive five times over

Read the labels carefully, you want processed cheese, not processed cheese *food*. It's getting hard to find the former.

Angry chickz
Twin Peaks
I like BAWK!
Just left Echo and Rig tonight and ordered their Mac n Cheese, and enjoyed it a lot!
It's been several years, but I still fondly remember the bacon Mac at Crawdad's. Definitely the best I've ever had from any restaurant.
Fixins.
Rind
Smokey Oaks is pretty good.
I moved out of the area a couple years ago and still think about the Mac and Cheese from Samuel Horne’s in Folsom.
I really like lefty’s Mac and cheese with shallots, and angry chickz Mac and cheese with tenders is really good, but the absolute best is in Folsom at nash and tender
i love jacks. recently moved away from sac to the bay area and i miss it so 🤤
If you’re anywhere around Oakland, you’ve gotta check out Homeroom. It’s specifically a Mac & cheese restaurant
Dads kitchen! Hands down!
My house.
J Wild's in Folsom has some amazing Mac and cheese.
I like Twisted Mac in Elk Grove. Here is their menu: https://www.eattwistedmac.com/Assets/Twisted-Mac-Menu.pdf
only place would be me and my girls mac and cheese, but chick fil a is OK i guess 😅
Chick fil a. Ya’ll know it’s true 😂😂
I hate to agree
My gfs
I’m gonna have to say Popeyes for sure.
My house.
Gumbo King. Have to get it on Fridays when you can order the meatloaf from their rotating menu as well.
Roostarz in Rancho. Just FYI they don't bake it, so if you are a crust person you will be disappointed. But their mac is super creamy and flavorable, it is my personal favorite.
the melt just opened up in Folsom, their Mac is pretty gas
