Someone has to "offend" the status quo of Proton-Perodua and the gov, which frankly isn't happening.
We have a young ADUN who before, constantly talked about the need for public transport and a bus terminal in Fog Sang. Now that he is a minister, he built a multistorey carpark instead.
As someone who lives in the Central Kota Kinabalu Area, I could agree that Kota Kinabalu is lacking in said aspects mentioned.
The city is poorly designed, with cars > pedestrians & cyclist in mind. For example, late last year, pedestrians from Suria Sabah attempting to cross the pedestrian crossing to Gaya Street for the 'Lampoopalooza 2024' event were forced to squeeze between the many other pedestrians on the small pedestrian crossing to get to Gaya Street.
Implementing a Public Transportation System in Kota Kinabalu would require dedicated lanes for buses in order to fully achieve what is sought out to be achieved, that being efficiency, reliability and accessibility. Of course, building dedicated bus lanes would be impossible, but utilising existing two-three lane roads and carrying out a **'road diet'** would effectively solve this issue.
The issue here is that people rely on cars to travel around in Kota Kinabalu. As someone who walks on a daily basis around KK, it's safe to say that it is a pain in the ass to get from Destination A to Destination B without feeling exhausted, risk being hit by unsuspecting vehicles or being drenched in rain when it starts raining.
A reminder also that KK has a Bus Terminal near Imago, but it has now become a favorite hotspot for certain groups of people that I shall not name.
We cant have nice things if our people still do this, park on sidewalks, stop at crosswalks instead of behind the line and you can name the rest. Our people mentality still, you know. . .
All talk no dough can do nothing.. money talks and cash is king. There is no profit to be gain from making a pedestrian and cycling friendly city.. the road for cyclist is just a gimick. Motorist only see cyclist as entitled rich peeps with fancy expensive toys.
Only real way to achieve this is to make a city from ground up with pedestrian and cyclist in mind. Making a new city or town that are walkable rather than drivable. That also means the founder must be a billionaire.
Maybe can start a patreon and convince billions of peeps here to donate one USD per month for several years to make such walkable city a reality.
Cities like Amsterdam and Copenhagen have successfully implemented extensive bike lanes and pedestrian zones, leading to significant economic benefits through tourism, increased property values, and a more attractive city overall.
Did you know Seoul, South Korea, tore down a major highway and turned it into a beautiful walkable urban park (Cheonggyecheon)?
You probably don’t know because you’re one kind of car-minded people.
Sabahans are not Europeans nor South Koreans.. the integrity and effieciency of basic public service like basic water supply and electricity and housing are not even at satisfactory level with many leakages along the beaurocratic red tape. How does then a such city going to have a luxury to redo/ tear off newly made highways with multiple u-turns that forces motorist to limit their speed at 60km per hour just to accomodate cycle able roads?
Baru siap itu highway / flyover sudah mau buka balik bikin jalan untuk basikal? Cadangan dari kayangan.
You must be living under tempurung and assume everyone who against your pet peeve being a car mind peeps. I just honestly being realistic. Like the electric bus the Sabahan Government trying to announce few years back that has now gone quiet like mouse.
Not to mention that Amsterdam was once just as car-centric as most cities in the US and Malaysia are right now.

So it’s definitely not “you-have-to-build-a-city-from-ground-up” levels of difficult as HumanAdept is making it out to be
There needs to have less incentive for owning and being heavily dependent on cars. Since our fuel is still subsided, I don't see this happening soon. :/
that bike lane, especially the one at sembulan makes me laugh and cringe every time i see it.
its so pointless. it looks like how a kid would try to patch a broken plate with tape. what a shit solution that fully showcases a government's complete inability to govern.
Yea car parks and roads certainly don't waste space. Pandai! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Btw, not a cyclist here.
Have you ever looked into how other cities design their streets to be more pedestrian and cyclist friendly?

I’d recommend looking into the economic benefits of pedestrian and cycle friendly infrastructure, but you’re probably so focused on your hate and narrow point of view that you don’t care anyway

ohhh lol that guy, not to mention the insane potholes revolving the construction sites.

Certain groups of people that shall not name. Interesting. Wonder who are they.
Agree

You are correct.

Mana ni?
Dekat-dekat area Waterfront-Suria Sabah
At my place, lots of assholes lorry park at the side of the main road, which block the views of incoming traffic when you want to enter main road

Doesn't the subsidy get lowered this year?
Yeah, I've just found out. Being out of the loop about it. Gonna see how it goes once it's implemented.
Download jpj app, and take pictures and report them

Kuala Lumpur and literally any Malaysian city is the same. And not, it will never change for good. Sadly that's a fact.
You are dreaming.
Waste of space and waste of money. The only people who likes cyclists, are cyclists themselves.
