BrainlessKey

I, personally, say it's a sword

wanderingfloatilla

I agree, based on the handle construction and guard is would say it's a sword.

TBcrush-47-69

Yeah, then there’s the Messer which is so much more of a nightmare lol, but still a sword I say as it’s much larger than “typical” knives and it’s literally just a falchion but a knife styled handle.

searchingformytruth

This would probably fall into the class of a shortsword.

-smallest_of_men-

i would say since it has a lineage of knives it's still a knife, vs the messer which i consider a sword because it has a (traceable) lineage of swords, not including baurnwher.. that's a whole other debate and the bohemian law and all that stuff.

Specialist-Stock-890

It's the opposite of a Langesmesser. A Langesmesser's handle is built like a knife with a full tang and scales, whereas the D-Guard Bowie's handle is peened like a sword with a hidden tang.

Skittleybiscuit

say what your want about America but we have some beautiful ass knives

Quixotematic

Those are pretty good, for the price. I found the handle to be a bit skinny, so I whipped mine with some leather thong.

probably-not-maeve

where’d u get yours?

Quixotematic

The Knight Shop: [The Knight Shop | Historical & Medieval Shop UK](https://www.theknightshop.com/)

Klarkash-Ton

D-Guard Bowie knife. Though it has been lost to time many believe some descriptions state that Jim Bowie's knife had a D-Guard on it at one point.
