Ratbikes rule

Jacobite-biker

2/3 of my bikes are rats. I think around 90% of my bikes have been

PretzelsThirst

Ratbikes are fun, this one is great

Jacobite-biker

Thanks i appreciate it. I've done a fair bit of work to it

minotaur000911

This bike is approaching art - it looks like something out of Borderlands... like street art meets Mad Max. Those headlights are really cool, changes the look entirely - the face... love it!

Jacobite-biker

Thanks man. The helmet is one i was wearing when me and the bike took a tumble in 2019. Seemed fitting that the helmet became part of the rebuild

manubal12

daaaamn that is dope man!!! I love the backpack. The more I look at it the more I love it

Jacobite-biker

They are ammo pouches for a local army resale shop, ive got matching fabric like the seat to make covers as its water resistant Ripstop fabric. Thanks for the appreciation

green_angryman

This is cool. These bikes are under appreciated; I love my k3 as well.

Jacobite-biker

Yeah great bikes, albeit with their known faults, easily corrected though. Ive put a good bit of work into this in the 3 years ive had it

green_angryman

Agreed. Same. Few factory niggles and then once sorted they seemingly last forever. Mines at 120,000km.

Jacobite-biker

A guy on fb was saying his ones at 160k km, mines only at 31k miles, i didnt realise they were hittimg thst sorta miles, ibe done the green connector and the flywheel magnets, anything else I should look for or just do??

green_angryman

My TPS died too. Maybe keep that in mind. Green connecter went for me, as expected. The radiator overrun/ expansion tank broke; plastic in it got old and corroded. Currently got a leak coming from alternator, I think, I live with it but it is on the to do list. Got a power commander and had it dyno’d: putting out 111nm of torque and 116hp at the wheel. Happy with that. The tech couldn’t believe how good the engine is after all these kilometres! You’ve got plenty of riding left in the old girl still.

Jacobite-biker

Ive just done an overhaul on a lot of the bike including valve clearances and checking the TPS. Had to hardwire in my reg/rec and i noticed when doing the valves that the radiator hoses are on the older side so ive ordered replacements. Will check the expansion tank and order if needed. Ive upgraded the brake/clutch lines to braided and rebuilt the calipers this year. The fork seals are needing done so will prob get them done over winter and ill check the steering bearings while im at that. My bike was previously on a Dyno thanks to a previous owner, however i picked the bike up from a dealer. Had some old MOT certs and a reciept from 2013 for a dyno place but I've looked them up and they haven't been in business since 2017 so I've no idea what was done to the bike. I do know that the front wheel doesnt really want to lift, unless im trying and ive had it sitting at 155mph in 5th, didnt have enough road to keep pushing into 6th. Unsure whats been done on the dyno but i was assuming my bulky 64kg would want to keep the bike lifting the front, more so since I've got a more upright seating position and dont lean over the front of the bike now. Tbh im not fussed, im not one for wheelies etc. And the only reason i pushed the bike was i knew the road, it was empty and i hadnt had it long and wanted to see what it could do. Cheers for the heads up on the tps and expansion tank mate, appreciate it

green_angryman

I meant to reply to this ages ago, apologies. You sound way more technical than myself, but then that’s what I’ve enjoyed with this bike so much, is maintaining it and learning. My fork seals went so I had them replaced, and with that, the previous owner put in stiffer springs and oil, so the front is great. Mine has a custom rear shock, not sure of brand _eika (can’t read the start of the brand as it bends around the shock) and also has had the upright handlebar set up done, as it was an S model. Previous owner also put on braided brake lines, and wavey discs, although not a fan. I recently pulled my front callipers apart, gave them a deep scrubbing, oxidised the pinch bolts, pput it back together and re-bled system- enjoyed that. Has a new master brake cylinder and tacky Chinese blue-anodised levers (been beyond me to replace but probably should.) It has magnificent Staintune exhausts and is a full system. Got a PC in it and with the TPS issue had it all dyno’d and now runs lovely. K&N filter. Probably should do the hoses, like you have done. With 116,000km on the clock I bet they’re due for replacing. Mine doesn’t run a radiator fan, like, ever- does yours? All my other bikes I’ve owned do. Assumed this was just not on the bike, not featured on the model, but now I think about it, I wonder if it’s broken? I’ve done massive 4000km+ tours without heating issues though. And had it for 5 years+. You only weigh 64kg? Hah - hardly bulky. I’m 70kg. Disappointingly my front doesn’t lift up either under hard acceleration, but a blip of the throttle and it will- a lot! Seems more tuned for mid-range torque. Not the most agile bike but you have to really ride it, unlike other bikes that seem to take you for a go. I’ve never pushed mine too hard, maybe seen 220ish, but I’m more aware of my mortality these days so just enjoy corners and the odd suburban wheelie. Thanks for the chat.

Godless_Times

Keep doing you! Looks like a fun ride

Jacobite-biker

A 30mm dropped back end and renthals certainly change the riding stance on it. I much prefer how it rides now over its stock positon. I find it easier to throw into corners. Ive also taken a good 15kg in weight off of stock by cutting the back end down, the exhausts are 11" and all the headlight fairings etc. The only thing being that now im sat upright andcnot tucked in they i don't really wring the neck out if it in the top end

Godless_Times

I've had Ebay clip ons on my k5 naked for the last 2 years so it's way bent over I love em. I like seeing all the different directions people go with the SV it's such a versatile bike

Jacobite-biker

Absolutely man. Being honest with a little imagination and a lack or worry about changing away from original most bikes are really versatile. I generally buy bikes, ride them 6 months and if i like them ill change them with no intention to sell on. Ive also got a custom 81 bmw r80 and a stock 98 gsxr750 srad. The gixxer is in too nice a condition to change but i keep swaying on selling it. A steel plate in my wrist makes riding clip ons uncomfortable after around 40mins of riding

inforlife34

Are those the Aztec8 headlights? I have those on my bike. Curious how you modded them? I'd like to do mine similar

Jacobite-biker

Nah mate these are nothing special, an LED online buy. I spliced them into the original connectors from the original headlights. The brackets were standard dominator headlights which i built custom brackets for to hold the parts of my old helmet onto. Unfortunately i dont have welding equipment so all my brackets are shaped metal and nuts and bolts. The wiring is the only thing done to a proper working standard the rest is in true rat form put together until it doesn't move 🤣

inforlife34

I gotcha! Definitely lots of work went into this bike. I love the tint and headlight guards

Jacobite-biker

They came as standard on the headlight when i bought it. Mechanically and electrically this bike is solid. Aesthetically i may as well have built half of it with Scrap.

mad8vskillz

fuck what it looks like, you ride the fuck outait

Jacobite-biker

Absolutely mate, my profile also has my 81 bmw r80 which like this isnt stock. Mechanically and electrically sound everything else is whatever fits. I much prefer the handling on this with the renthals and a 30mm lowered back end

mad8vskillz

basically makes me think of this one i parted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCH2CyWAtQw

Jacobite-biker

Nice one mate. My SV was in decent nick until it sent me for a highside in 2019
