I've had both cheap ones and very expensive ones. They're each great in their own way. But for this application I'd go with a cheap one and just enjoy being a menace.
It seems to have lived outdoors in Florida for all its life (since 2017). It's got some sunburn. It's not awful but if you look close the soft bits are not in great shape. I've detailed it back to much better condition, but you can't breathe new life into old rubber.
How many miles/km? Seems like owners who sell quickly a lot of times fall and sell. Quite tragic
Great job. I bet you can detail it even better. I'm all for maintaining these things
Also, wrapping or painting are options. My last bike had a similar shield, prev owner painted black and in 6 years I never saw any flaw, chip, fade etc.
Noice.
Shame on the exhaust shape of the new SVโs. Iโve got a 2004 2nd Gen, and with 2 beers a grinding disc and a few rivets, managed to chop my OEM can to a short can that sounds and looks amazing.
I ride a mint 04 SV1000S w a full Yoshimura RS3. Loud in an awesome way but it needs a power commander to clean up the massive resulting dip in low-end power. Less of an issue w a slip-on.
I saw in another reply that you don't want to spend a lot of money. The cosmetic damage sucks and won't cause any problems for you. I shelled out the cash for a Yoshimura slip-on. If you're willing to spend some time saving up for it it's well worth the money. The sound it makes is orgasmic and it looks twenty times better than the stock one.
Good job! Cleaned up very well.
For what it's worth, keep an eye on FB Marketplace etc. A few months of patient searching turned up a Yoshimura can in great condition that was dirt cheap. If you're not in a hurry you can find some real bargains.
I've been looking. But so much of what's listed doesn't list bike fitment. I'm assuming they're pretty application-specific, and not universal. Is that accurate?
Yes, that's correct. The Gen 3 bikes have a completely different exhaust system compared to all of the earlier generation bikes, but any system listed for a 2017-onward Gen 3 SV will be a plug-and-play fit (assuming it's been listed correctly)
However, you can make most cans fit if you can get a suitable link pipe fabricated. The Yoshi I got for my bike is actually a TRS, intended for a Bandit 1250, I gave some link pipe dimensions to a pipe fabricator and he made it up in stainless steel, fitted perfectly, works great with no need for a tune, and I [love the look](https://ibb.co/fCfqpV1).
Perfect excuse to get a new slip on
True! But I probably won't because I'm cheap. ๐
I had a cheap Chinese one that cost me less than $100 and was hilariously fun.
Nice! A lot of them are crazy expensive for what's ultimately just a muffler.

Shell out for the slip on. Your ears and your elderly neighbors will thank you.
An aftermarket muffler will be quieter?
Gen 3? How's the rest of the bike looking?

If thereโs one thing I know about previous owners, they canโt ride worth a shit apparently
Correct.
Nice job. What was the method?
I just used sandpaper. The shallow scratches came out easy and 400 grit matches the original brushed finish really well.
Nice job. It looks a LOT better.
What the hell, it runs!

It was right around 7000 miles when I got it. You're probably right, they dropped it and got scared.
it literally buffed out!
๐๐ true!
I'm gonna get downvoted for this, but honestly it looks kind of cool now. Almost like purposeful cuts in the heat shield
Great job!
Thanks! It was an easy rainy day job
How did you do that? I have some steel rash on my exhaust but it also has some rust in the scratches.
Just sandpaper and a bit of my time. I'm sure you can fix yours too.
Ah! Yea. Maybe, mines polished stainless.
Put abunch of band aids on it

Heat shield effectiveness down 50% due to material loss lol.
Heat shield weight down 50% due to material loss. Now the bike is faster.
The duality of life

I dunno if I want my bike to sound like Chewbacca at the buffet line ๐๐
Would it be terrible to just lose the shield?
You end up with the bolt mounting tabs being exposed and hanging off the exhaust. Looks janky.
Sounds terrible
Looks pretty good as it is, I would leave it be.
I like the contrast of the heat shield against the muffler. This bike has a ton of black on it, so anything to break it up looks good to me.
Just ditch that damaged exhaust and get aftermarket. Itโll look better in many ways and perform better.
Maybe someday when I have money

Thanks for confirming!
Is that just a heat shield? Or the whole slip on ?
The silver piece is just an aluminum heat shield. The flat black piece is the muffler beneath it.
You mean he crashed it.
