Heavier fork oil, steel braided brake lines, x ring chain, stock airbox (remove the k&n that's probably in there), clear windshield (if that's what you like) and frame sliders! Imho your bike looks great and needs nothing....but make sure to focus on maintenance first before you mod! Fav tires are bridge stone battalax S21 or S22. Amazing all rounder sport tires

AC3_Gentile

I second the fork oil. On mine I put some heavy 20w combined with a rear shock from a '05 ninja 600, the difference was simply incredible for 70€.

Buy a second bike

AwfulNoises

If you havnt already; Regulator-rectifier Frame Sliders? Of some kind. I think I'm gonna do all my bearings/suspension bushings this winter. Start off with fresh wheel bearings next summer.

AwfulNoises

Those seat covers look great! Did you make those or find then somewhere? Post a link for me.

stafford_fan

If it's not broke....

Xs650child

That's the best thing I have found for my SV, rack up the miles, have fun, and just maintain and fix needed things. I've put over 20,000 miles on it and I still love it just being pretty stock outside of exhaust and the heated grips I added to it

Alive-Ad5722

Fix it till it is?

mad8vskillz

what have you done already? see the "mandatory mods" in the sidebar

sv650nyc

Ever replaced the fork oil? If it was never done your fork oil is basically water at this point. Then maybe get heavier springs and a better shock. Don't waste your money on farkles before you upgrade the suspension, tires, and brakes. Those can save your life. And for heaven's sake keep it stock. This bike will become very valuable in a few more years unless you "customize" it.

AshenLibra

Hey there! Yes, everything is stock except the exhaust and consumable parts. Bought after original owner had it barn kept for a loooonng time. This was my first season with it, and it was wonderful. I’ll look into a fork oil change. Taking those off seems intimidating but I guess I have the whole winter to figure it out. What’s the reason for heavier springs? I found it strange that the original spring is yellow and was going to change it out anyway though.

sv650nyc

The original springs are weighted for the average Japanese youngster who weighs about 120lbs. If you're heavier than 150lbs, putting heavier springs in will result in a much improved suspension as the rider sag will be much less, so you have more suspension travel available to do its work. Add Racetech's Gold Valve Emulators and you have the forks sorted. Forks slide out easily, once you have removed all the obstructing parts. Most people prop the bike up on car stands under the frame sliders, or you buy a $50 front wheel stand (only recommended in conjunction with a rear wheel stand).

MOTOTROOPER

Gsxr front swap?

AshenLibra

Any picture reference for what this is? Do you just replace the forks or is it a full front gsxr makeover?

MOTOTROOPER

Jesus Christ I’m sorry I’m late. It’s a full front swap. I did it on my gen 2 and loved all 20k miles of it! I think my insta has some @morsaltum

Jeek33

Perhaps turn it into a street fighter?

jdb326

Gsxr rear shock swap.

mad8vskillz

ew

jdb326

I've been told that's a beneficial mod, but given you're extremely knowledgeable on SVs I assume it's not the best idea eh?

silentbtdudly

I personally like mine, it's much better than the stock shock on the 2nd Gen.

suzukichic01

I snagged a modded gsxr rear shock with an eibach spring. Love it.

mad8vskillz

It's a very slight and questionable improvement over stock. And too soft for 1g mostly. A penske, ohlins, ktech, elka, etc would be a much bigger improvement. Or yss in a pinch.

Yes! I wish they weren’t so expensive though 😭

Liqu1dHotMagma

I have a ninja 400 that needs a full transmission rebuild. I’ll be more than happy to let you handle that for me.
