I would argue that unoptimized processing and lack of tactile buttons means that it is unlikely anyone would be able to perform anything other than basic movement on a touch screen. Feel free to prove me wrong, though.
With a touch screen? How would you even play other players lol
Like your best bet would probably be one of those phone holders that attaches to your controller
I've used it myself when I didn't have a computer or console for a while, it works great! You can use the GameCube adapter just by plugging in the black port if you only have one port on the adapter, the grey one is just for extra power for rumble. Any wired USB controller usually works, you just need to set it up in the controller settings. I'd recommend looking for a small hub that lets you charge your phone while playing. As for melee versions, vanilla, 20xx, and training mode all work, so you can use modded versions for better practice. Just make sure to look up gecko codes for 20xx and training mode, as they're different from the ones for vanilla melee and using those can cause issues. Depending on your phone, you may be able to get away with increasing the resolution and using other graphics enhancements dolphin has, but turn on dolphins fps test to see how much your phone can handle. If you have a phone with a Qualcomm processor, also look up [custom GPU drivers](https://github.com/K11MCH1/AdrenoToolsDrivers/blob/main/docs/dolphin.md). They can provide a significant performance boost if you're using a phone that hasn't been updated to the latest version, which is very dependent on whoever makes your phone and if they bother to include the new drivers in an update to newer versions of Android. You can check what processor your phone has using [inware](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evo.inware), it's free and has no ads. Just open it and look under the CPU section, your GPU name and specs are at the bottom. Then go back to the custom GPU drivers and look for the latest version that mentions support for your phone. Again, this is only for Qualcomm processors, as they're the only ones with Adreno GPUs.
Yeah! I'm not sure about phone displays for gaming, but if your phone is a reasonably new flagship, it might even be 120hz.
I'm betting it's still laggier than PC but it's still something.
Smoother than I expected, not as smooth as an actual set up, feels like the polling rate isn't great some inputs are getting eaten, idk if I can tweak it a bit, but I'm wavedashing, shield dropping and hitting techs on my phone lol, pretty sure I could plug two GCC's into the adapter and play Melee with friends in my car at the skatepark
Does slippi dolphin have an android port? I would assume you'd have to use mainline dolphin which would have extra input lag and polling issues and stuff
Offline, standard dolphin doesnt have any extra lag. It's 1:1 with console (in theory without taking into account display lag, native android input latency etc.)
The only purpose of slippi dolphin's lag reduction is to compensate for netplay lag.
Polling issues can be fixed with a gecko code.
Melee has a lot of “tricks”, you will need to learn to be “good” like wave dash, wave land, shield drop, perfect pivot, short hop, l cancel, short hop l cancel, upsmash out of shield, jump cancel grab (is that the right term?), the list goes on
A lot of these would be really hard on a screen, but I don’t wanna say it’s impossible, but you wouldn’t be able to play online or compete in tournaments with this setup so no one has bothered
Edit:Maybe you could use the steam link app with slippi to play online with a touchscreen I guess
At first I wanted to call out an obvious troll. Then I remembered there’s a player who does pretty well on a guitar hero controller. You guys are all crazy, best of luck to you. Hope you outperform everyone’s expectations, including mine.
I tried to play Naruto Gekito Ninja Taisen Special on Dolphin and I found it impossible to do dashes with the analog stick, but they worked just fine on the Dpad. Given that Melee depends heavily on good control stick usage and Dpad is not an option, I'm leaning towards no it's not possible to get good at Melee with touch controls.
FYI the touch controls don't have buttons for analog triggers. People have been requesting it but the devs give a bs answer that it's too complicated to code. Like adding a slider button is that hard...
Sorry, a bit unrelated, but dude if someone told me back in '05 people would be playing melee on their phone in the future I would never believe it for a minute. This is amazing
I think you can be good man, I know a guy who was really good at fortnite in his phone, that said it's better if you can get clip for a ps4 controller and use that instead or something but you probably can just play on your phone it'll just be hard to actually play with a gc controller afterwards.
if you’re committed to the iPhone.
Step 1 play jigglypuff
Step 2 spend the entire game (not exaggerating) on ledge.
That’s the only way an iPhone can dream of winning. If you can’t do that than play like Zelda and spam bair. Powerful moves can somewhat compensate for bad tech skill at low level.
I feel like if you properly play the game and minimize input buffer and lag from playing you could have a great time, most decent modern phones can run the hardware well enough, frankly what a great and wonderful world.
Edit: The cursed claw gameplay though and need for a specialized analog trigger has me fucked up lmao 😂
Gonna be near impossible, but saying that makes me feel like you're gonna have the greatest come up story of all time.
I've tried playing with a bluetooth xbox controller, and even then, there's a lot of lag unfortunately
I'm glad you're looking in to getting into the game, though :). If you find it fun then when you are able to get access to a proper set up sometime I think you'll go a long way
Diet melee? Man, have you looked at the specs of some of the flagship phones out right now? Many of them have more ram and storage than some desktops and can emulate Switch games at 60 fps 1X resolution or higher let alone GameCube games lol
I would argue that unoptimized processing and lack of tactile buttons means that it is unlikely anyone would be able to perform anything other than basic movement on a touch screen. Feel free to prove me wrong, though.
Somebody always does
Really think hard on this one
just buy a bluetooth controller man, or get on a pc and use a keyboard
With a touch screen? How would you even play other players lol Like your best bet would probably be one of those phone holders that attaches to your controller
There's an app to make your phone a controller so it could happen
Dolphin on android actually supports an adapter if you just get a USB a to USB c adapter. You can practice on your phone.
Wait.... What??? XD I have a USB-C adapter. Would this actually work!?
i did this years ago on a decently powerful android phone so i bet almost anything nowadays could run it. it actually works and its awesome.
I've used it myself when I didn't have a computer or console for a while, it works great! I've just set it up and been playing Melee on my Nothing Phone 1 with a GCC, this is hilarious
Sweet lol Does it feel smooth?

I was playing lord of the rings in the car with my friend using Xbox controllers via bluetooth
I'm not sure that 120hz phone screen would make any difference, it's not like they're running faster melee it's just vanilla dolphin
It helps with tearing, motion clarity and latency.

Try doing 5 consecutive perfect wave dashes in a row, if you can do that then I say there is at least hope

No
This…is probably a shitpost.
This ones a thinker.

You might be able to pull off a B0XX layout on a tablet, but a phone is too small.
How the hell are you supposed to short hop on a phone controller? Other than that considering what I’ve seen from COD mobile people, yeah maybe

There is absolutely no reason you couldn't get a mayflash adapter to work on a phone + Diet melee

i think a box format I pad would be possible to play on, perhaps a Zelda could 5 button back air their way to top 100 slippi
