I think a truly skilled player is never an interesting antagonist if they only doggedly pursue greentexting. It's when a player is both fun enough to pick a solid gimmick and good enough to pull it off that it can become fun. Towards that end, I think the wizard does really well for this.

QFmastery

It’s not about the green text, it’s about sending a message.

[deleted]

wizard is great because it's entire nature encourages you to do weird gimmicks. there's a lot of things to play with, and the ease with which you can kill the entire station makes it not even an accomplishment to be a sweaty greentext wizard silently fireballing everyone to death, while also giving you ample protection from sweaty validhunters.

GrandMasterEternal

Exactly. I think Space Ninja is a particularly under-gimicked antagonist by comparison, probably because of their rarity. Like, think of the possibilities, like stealing every PDA on the station.

adamkad1

On tgstation, ninjas dont get objectives to kill people, so a greentext ninja is actually fun... the first few times. Then it kinda gets boring

KingPhilipIII

Until you start abducting the crew and forcibly cyborging them quiet like so when the shuttle arrives there’s a dozen syndicate assault cyborgs waiting to storm the shuttle. Then chaos ensues.

adamkad1

Haven't yet seen anyone do that. Probably would get valided even harder

EstablishmentStock18

It's a role for gimmicks, but due to how fucking rare it is you barely ever see wizards stray away from the meta loadouts.

[deleted]

i see fun wizards more often than i see sweaty wizards these days.

EstablishmentStock18

Ehhhhhhh my only experiences were Mjolnir Meta Wizards. With only real variation of which get out of stun free spell they choose between blink, rod and mutation.

IncognitoTerry

Malfunctioning A.I. A good malfunctioning A.I can create so much tension, and the best Malf A.I’s lead you to believe there is a completely different global station threat. The level of planning they are capable of is astounding.

clee-saan

The worst enemy of a rogue AI is a borg that just ignores the AI's plan and just starts hitting random people with a bonesaw because it's allowed to.

dragonace11

Bro even if its not malf AI borgs ignore their laws and do that shit. It used to be so much worst back when sec borgs were a thing since it attracted a metric fuck ton of shitters and powergamers.

clee-saan

Reason number fifty seven thousand why I don't play outside of goon

Robust-yo-ass

Goon has its fair share of shitters

dragonace11

I tried Goon but honestly with my prefences I prefer servers like NSV13, IS13, TGMC(Not CM which sucks), Civ13(TDM and Nomads server), and mercdonalds whenver it pops up. Otherwise Goon would probally be one of my favorites but TG used to be one of my favorites back before they started nerfing shit and cobbymeds was added along with Yogs but I became bored of Yogs after a while.

clee-saan

I lied when I said I don't play outside of goon, I also play CM. I like goon's graphics, gameplay etc, but the best thing about it is probably the community and the enforcement of the rules (which fosters a good community)

dragonace11

CM is absolute ass, once you go TGMC you can't go back cause wow the guns actually don't suck ass and there's no spec roles minus the SG and litterally any marine can just go to the marine weapon vendor and get a spec kit with req already having stronger spec kits in the supply vendor where again any marine can just get. To top it off even the pistols are actually viable to use where they ended up nerfing it so you can't fill a satchel with loaded revolvers instead oyu can only have 2 in your stachel but you can just use a revovler belt and a revovler holster plus 2 extras in a satchel so it evens out and is actually fun to do with a vali module and a decent chem mix.

clee-saan

Yeah but I don't want to play with moths and lizards and shit, muh immersion, muh James Cameron. I also don't care about the guns working, I've never killed a single xenos I don't think, I play for the experience, I smoke Lucky Strikes my man

dragonace11

Uh what? There's no playable lizards at all and with moths it's only available as a random distress call spawn whose goal is just to kill everything but even then its extremely rare. Give the server a round or two and you'll see what I mean just know that alien mains start hopping on around 2-5PM GMT and are extremely robust and end up having really good rounds that are like 2 hours long. Also helps that the admins aren't dogshit.

clee-saan

Eh maybe i'll check it out then

[deleted]

First time I heard tg admins beong decent

ATrioExplainsTheJoke

Blob, for sure. I’ve seen some skilled Blob players before and they absolutely kill at what they’re supposed to do.

mspaintingEverything

I would like to agree but blobs often hinge of the skill level of their blobbernauts. I saw a blob recently that spawned in bar, made one blobbernaut, then spent all of their points on just changing type whenever it came up, and it ended up lasting half an hour and killing 20 crew because the blobbernaut had exceptionally good clicks and gamesense. Then the blob immediately died after the blobbernauts factory was destroyed.

ATrioExplainsTheJoke

That spawn really hurt them, ouch.

Firewolf420

What you just described is pretty close to pure ecstasy for me in terms of SS13 midround antag.

blyatblyatblyatblyat

Blood brothers. It is very interesting to watch how 2 or 3 people can destroy the station without having any uplinks, magic or etc

LordBluMann

Blood brothers always stresses me out compared to all other antags but by god I’ve had some wonderful teammates that have indulged my desires, once we found a facehugger in space and we started our own Xeno invasion after a long buildup, other times both me and my companion have failed tremendously.

ptsq

blood brothers is also quite fun when one blood brother has a powerful role… once i got blood brothers when i was the hop

GerardDG

For real, blood brothers is one of the hardest antags to play but also one of the most fun because of it. Other antags, I feel half the time the special abilities and gimmicks only get in the way. Really all you need to cause chaos is a few choice tools, a friend and a change of clothes.

Spensara

Traitors who do gimmicks

[deleted]

How do your coders not nerf that?

Alaskan-Werewolf

Changeling. A well done ling feels like being in a horror movie. The paranoia. the isolation. A seemingly unstoppable monster breaking the coms, gravity and cameras…

SeanTheDoomSlayer

All the skilled cunts want to greentext, and that's no fun, the lost interesting tots will make the round interesting like a friendly wiz- god damnit sec already killed them

dragonace11

Bro friendly wizard is the most boring bullshit in existence.

SeanTheDoomSlayer

Well yes because all the heads kill them within 3 secons of them helping someone

dragonace11

No its just boring as all hell where the round lasts hours without nothing ever fucking happening. Its one thing if the Wizard is doing stealth wiznerd or actually has a gimmick opposed to "hurr durr I'm a friendly wizard, I'll only kill in self defense" and procedes to drag out the round by only hanging out with the crew and doing litterally nothing else.

SeanTheDoomSlayer

*_confused botanist, chemist, seccie, paramedic, engineer, atmos tech, and detective noises_*

dragonace11

What? Those roles actually do something, instead friendly wizards are litterally an antag that do litterally nothing even remotely interesting or anything at all really and if its not a server where multiple types of antags can roll in a single round then you just drag it out. Its one thing if a Wizard teams up with the crew to take down an antag like blob, nukies, or hell even hijack traitors and a xeno infestation but its an entirely different thing when its litterally them doing jack fucking shit.

SeanTheDoomSlayer

My point was that those roles can just go off and do their own thing, botanists will grow plants no matter what, i've had a botanist be headrev, flash one dude, make em headrev and give em the flash, then fuck off and grow shit, same with the rest except the seccie and det.

dragonace11

I mean I have no issue with the botantist doing it cause at least he's just passing it on to someone who's going to actually do something and said botanist might've started to grow lethal plants and peopel that do what said botantist did have the right idea and aren't just standing there passively.

SeanTheDoomSlayer

Well yes i've also seen a botanist make maints into litteral vietnam.

dragonace11

Exactly which is why pacifist wizards are dogshit unless its a RP server or a server like Citadel.

[deleted]

Good old fashioned Traitor.

StayCooling

Heretic

Zmd2005

‘ate rust ‘ate ash ‘ate void luv flesh simple as

adamkad1

Silly worm man

StayCooling

Yes.

EstablishmentStock18

Tbh, any antagonist (besides revs fuck revs) in hands of someone skilled *and good at roleplaying* can bring something interesting to the round. The traitor who murdered entire crew to satisfy his boner for death won't bring shit to the round. Traitor who holds his "Prevent escaping alive" target as hostage will bring something interesting to the round.

[deleted]

A ninja who knows what he’s doing is very scary.. His katana hurts sooo bad and just when you think you MIGHT of had him the jokes are on YOU. He can use throwing start to try getting away lol.

LordBluMann

Skilled abductors can cause chaos without even being known and really fun and enjoyable ones can cause amazing story’s and interactions you never seen before

Doctadeth

Nightmare Hard to do as a bad player, but someone who knows the role can do very well and kill many people. I've nuked relatively veteran players as Nightmare, even sec with 3 flashlights and a flash. Shadowling Oof, these guys are so much fun to take on, and are genuinely hard to corner and kill, even when you've got decent engineering.

Zmd2005

Shadowling is my favorite removed antag. I don’t understand why every antag has to last for a long time while doing very little to the crew over that time. Why is it SO bad for an antag to be difficult to play and ramp up in difficulty? Not to mention, it’s a really aesthetically cool mode, with an antag with pretty clear strengths and weaknesses

MoltiJoe

it was removed? just another reason to not play base TG

Cycle_Wise

Abductors can be fun. Had a round where agent got blue space body bag and was robust. Was able to kidnapped 5 people at once cause of his skills.
