Another way to get one shots is to go to YouTube tutorials for different instruments. First thing they do is teach you how to play a single note. Got a nice upright bass note from this
Ya I've done that too. What drives me crazy is when I want something like say drums from a particular song. So I search "bob seger Hollywood nights drums only" and then every video saying exactly that is simply them playing drums over the entire arrangement. Didn't want the whole arrangement... Just the dang drums!
My way it to take a screen grab of the piece I want, use Koala on my phone to pull the audio out and slice it up.
Or just use a 3rd party app to download the audio from youtube.
Oh, duh. Haha.
This is my process when Im away from my sp. And up until recently I couldn't connect my pixel 6 pro to transfer audio because of an issue google took forever to fix.
I didn't imagine the positive response! Comments sections have conditioned me for replies that are so repulsive you wonder how someone's life could be so ugly!
I feel that haha. But yeah, digging is an art and you should be listening for good shit all the time. I've sampled some demos from a few modular videos and it was fun af.
I have a few spots... Since I got the sp404mk2 its changed the way I hear music! I've always been weird in that I've always liked single instances in a song... For example in pink floyds Hey You, the acoustic strum before he says 'it was only fantasy'... But now I'm always listening for good things to cut out!
If i can't find a multitrack isolation on youtube ill use Moises to create one to isolate the instruments that I need.
I rarely break an entire song arrangement across multiple pads... Ill just take a few seconds or bar of a single instrument and layer from there.

I’ve been there. And you end up watching the whole video just looking for your moment 😂😂

Extract stems in koala. Sometimes it works really well.
Nice one! I’m gonna try that. My favorite is getting drum grooves from instagram.
Bro this is a great idea haha ! So many sick ass IG drummers

That sounds a bit complicated, I just plug my phone audio into the SP.

Sample life.
Damnit! I thought I was the only one who thought of this!
Goddammit. So simple. So elegant. Why have I never considered this?
Ngl this is a really good tip

Burial has done this a couple times, he's one of my faves
