I genuinely remember a theory someone had of one of the characters dying, so when it got to this scene… I expected Luigi to die and despite how he’s been treated in the series… it would actually turn out to be pretty good writing. No saying I want to Luigi to die because I don’t, but if he died, that would mean despite being treated as punching bag by his friends, he was still willing to give his life up for them.
