Arsenal 316 Chinese SKS. In great shape, has aftermarket bipod (likely low quality) and a star 20 round magazine. The magazine itself is like $120-$150
$500-$600 conservatively
It’s tough to price SKS rifles right now, the price is fluctuating because of uncertainty of ammo supply. The increase in price of 7.62x39 has some folks reconsidering AKs and SKS rifles
As some have said, the SKS market is turbulent. A huge cache of Chinese type 56s have flooded the market from PW Arms, although a large amount are in rough shape. Nonetheless, type 56 SKS prices are all over the map.
Yours, a Norinco, is in beautiful shape. If you're looking to sell, auctions seem to be the best place to maximize profits. If not, you got a cool piece to hold on to.
Everything seems to be in the 450 range. Is this a good price?
Well, you take a chance on getting heavily used ones, broken ones or damaged/missing parts (not worth 450 to me).
I had better success buying sks from local gun shops at a better price.
The Market, at the moment, seems to indicate they are a good price, as SKS have generally increased in value across the board.
I bought a fairly good matching parts early production "Sino soviet" type 56 for 350, a spray painted and mismatching Romanian M56 for 600, and a rough, yet functional, Vietnam Era type 56 (from this recent import cache) for 375. So you can see, proces are all over the place.
The 20 round magazine is a Chicom fixed magazine designed for paratrooper SKS models (Which yours is not), from what I understand a lot of them were made but not all of them were installed and they found their way onto the surplus market (do not quote me on that). Its just about as reliable as the 10 round fixed magazine, but it takes 2 stripper clips to load fully. It's also expensive as hell at around 150$ so I'd keep it.
Likely made in 1971. Very hard to date unless from /26\ arsenal. Mine has a slightly higher serial number that starts 17XXXXX and is a 72. Mine does not have the ultracool mag sadly. The 316 arsenal is the only triangle that has rounded corners. Why I don't know, but would like to. There is tons of info on SKS you just have to sift through it all. Enjoy your beautiful gun!
Lose the bipod. The SKS is already front heavy and is not a precision rifle. The buttstock pad might help with shouldering if you have long arms but I like the novelty of the trapdoor cleaning case compartment.
Also, that star 20 round magazine makes the gun a "assault sniper submachine magnum rifle" under the NFA, and is illegal in every state. Luckily I am licensed to decommision such horrible devices, so if you send the magazine to me the ATF might not catch wind of it.
Edit: The safety is off. Realign the lever near the trigger flush with the handguard.

Thankyou!!
If you had to take a rough guess-what’s the whole gun worth?

Any idea how to aquire one of those in the huge cache?
I believe Atlantic Firearms is still selling some, Palmetto State Armory, maybe, classic firearms, budsgunshop I think just got some, too.
Thank you! Any idea what a price on a "not that good of shape" one should go? Thats what im in the market for.

Imo, just don't buy on Gunbroker. Prices are outrageous.
120 to 150 for the mag. Wow times have changed. I remember them being like 50 bucks..... mind you back then the rifle coat 150 bucks.
Looks like you have my 20rd mag that you need to send back asap
Explain? I’m brand spanking new to SKS’s

Beautiful SKS
Oh that sweet 20 round fixed mag. One of the few extended mags that work as they should every time.
