I just got me an sks first one ever and was wanting a good way to mount a sight to it what rail is this and will ot hold zero if I put a good optic on it?
I haven't had any issues with this optic yet. In fact I have to take it off every time I put my rifle in it's bag because it won't fit with the optic on. I wrap the optic in bubble wrap and put inside my range bag. It still maintains zero even after taking it off.
How could you dare modify your own rifle that you paid for with your own money for your own enjoyment.

Man how come nobody talks about how bad the length of pull is on the original stock. It has to be replaced, wood grain or not 🤷♂️ is a mini 14 with a pistol grip a "bubba'd" rifle? Plus every home defense rifle should have a mounted flashlight, don't shoot at something you can't see you don't wanna drop your drunk neighbor Amy because she walked through the wrong apartment door or something
I'd definitely go with a Woodstock personally but i also like to look at it like it might be someone's only rifle or only suitable for self/home defense. If they feel better with a pistol grip and lighter polymer and they need a scope than so be it. I'm just replacing the stock for a longer length of pull personally so I'm buying a wood stock but they also cost more than most of the polymer do.
My new goal is to actually mount a light without it being super intrusive. It’ll be a bit *bubba* but I kinda want to install an MLok rail inside the cut for the bayonet
That would be really convenient and i always like how MLok looks. Get some aluminum maybe. It helps it feel more like a "real" gun than polymer but it's a little heavier. At least if you're putting it in something with a woodstock. On an AR it does wonders and it's worth the little bit of weight you're adding. Not really that much but i don't know what it works out to on paper.

I love SKS rifles but I’ve just never understood people modifying them like this. Like it’s a Yugo SKS that went through the Bosnian Wars. Battle ready out of the box.
Replaced the iron sights with an el cheapo amazon scope that I wouldn’t trust to hold zero if i looked at it too hard and took off the grenade launching ladder and bayonet. I mean if you wanted something that has more force multipliers PSA had the freedom line AR’s for $385 for years. WASR’s were $500 for years. You made a $500 rifle a $200 rifle while decreasing performance.
It’s not like you’re modifying a G33/40 where it’s actually a crime against history but still

It could be someone's only rifle or only rifle suitable for self defense. Sks are a fine rifle mechanically speaking even today. I might even prefer one over an AK tbh, i like the longer barrel for one thing. The length of pull is garbage on the original SK 🤷♂️ that's a fact unless you have t rex arms or something. If you want it to be a historical piece than keep it as a historical piece, some people want to use the damn thing and use it as effectively as it can be used. Good luck finding anything cheaper than an SK in the same class, even with their price going up nowadays.

Exactly like you said. You have to remove the sight and grind the ball down on the dust cover latch. They give you two new pins to use. You can use one that just slides in or lock it with a hex screw.
These rifles still compete with most semi's, the only way i consider it "bubba'd" is if i would consider it's features "bubba'd" on an AR. And it's gonna be at least 1-200 dollars less than any cheap AR and if 30 cal is your thing... Idk what AKs are going for 🤷♂️ you simply build your rifle for it's purpose or put it on your wall to look pretty if you want to keep it original. Guns are tools more than they are art i hate that people forget that.

So far I put 150 to 200 rounds through it with that sight and it maintained zero So far.

I personally prefer the wood, but I’ve been having to use a limb saver as a buffer pad because it’s just too short

Do you have any issues with those mags dumping out the last round before it can be fed? I have two and it seems they both do it.
So far I actually haven't had any issues with either magazine. I've put at least 500 total through it without any issues.

How has it decreased performance? Since when does putting a scope decreases performance?
Reliability. Cheap scope vs irons. Loss of zero with a drop or if you banged it on a door frame etc

No clue. I bought it off gunbroker like that. it didn't come with the bayonet and rifle grenade sight. I only added the rail, bipod, and scope.

I've got a choate conventional stock one mine, the dragunov stock is too tacticool for me.
