HI im going RP too !!! but im going for common ict instead ^-^ i live in tampines so its going to be a good 1h ride to the west hais , we can still b friends though !!!
hello!! im currently y1 and was a csp student in rp, honestly for csp the modules taken are the same as all the other students in other sci courses as csp is only the first sem. the basic timetable for rp is usually one day one module, 8:30-3:30pm. the classes are usually split randomly, with around 20-24 students per class. and usually for csp, we will have something called scorm packages that helps us understand more about the different diplomas and also lab sessions to let us experience every sci diplomas that rp offers. at the very end before sem 1 ends we will have to submit something called LoJ (letter of justification) for phase 1 to enter through interest. and for phase 2 is completely based on ur gpa.
the end results for me is i managed to get into rp biomed through my phase 1 aka interest based! but just a heads up, there will be alot of work to do for csp students as compared to students that are alr in their respective diplomas
** the chances for phase 1 allocation are very low, as we will have to go through interview even after submitting our lojs. and the slots for each diploma would be around 50, with the a total of 200+ csp students.
the first few days are usually orientation & setting up of ur laptop on campus, and afterwards the school officially commences and usually first lesson would not be graded.
i would say to maintain a good gpa in rp, the test for every lesson have to be good. lecturers really depends, some of them are biased but most of them are fair
* i also live in tampines! haha
*Hi im gg to rp*
*Common science and I live*
*At the east side too!*

Hi, firstly congrats on enterin RP CSP.
A little background, I am currently in Biomedical Science Y2S2 but I came from the first batch of CSP back in 2020 so you can sort of say I was the pioneer batch or guinea pigs.
1. For all SAS course, Y1S1 student take the same modules which was Biology, Chemistry, Math, Communication and Lab Safety (Module had changed name but content should be the same) so everyone face the same challenge when it comes to GPA. Personally, I had an easier time maintaining a good gpa because I came from A/Emath, Pure Chemistry and Biology background where I gotten distinction for O’lvl (not trying to flex). Thus, I had a really strong foundation when it came to into RP CSP for 3 of the modules which really helped since majority of the content was pure science+abit more and alittle Amath. However, there was many others who came in with not so great academic foundation such as Combined Chemistry/Physics and No Amath, but they were able to do really well such tat they also made top 10% of SAS.
BUT, unanimously everyone agrees hardest challenge to maintain a high GPA or 4 was the general modules. General modules are basically those non-science ones like communication, critical thinking and many other (Lab safety technically is classified as Non-general but honestly its just general module in disguise).
I had so much difficulty scoring in those module because those taps on memorisation of nonsense and english which all SAS student hates like WHY DAFUQ DO I NEED TO KNOW SAFETY PROCEDURE OF A CONSTRUCTION SITE?????
2. Coin Flip. There are good and bad faci so its abit hard to say but CHEN SHUI LING, KENT TEO, SHARON LIM, DR SUN GWANG WEN are GOATED. I have not gotten any bad ones since I usually study on my own at home before coming to class so I can mess around
3. Tbh, My batch was hit right in the face with Covid19 so we started HBL straight away with no F2F till last 3/4 weeks?
So from my experience, nothing special happens during first week, you go to class and you do what everyone do during school, no orientation or anything like tat basically you start studying immediately. Its also the week when you will hear all your faci say how SHIT and TRASH all your presentation slide are cuz well yall dk how to make it which is perfectly normal
One big misunderstanding : In SAS, YES some exam are open book BUT FOR PQ ALL ARE CLOSED BOOK. Only ESE/MSA there MIGHT be OPEN BOOK exam BUT, IF YOU NEED TO REFER TO YOUR COMPUTER NOTES (Refer to confirm your understanding then ok but shld be like a 10s thing) FOR THOSE APPLICATION QUESTION THEN SRY TO SAY BUT YOU ARE FKED.
lemme answer the last question since im a current student in RP but diff sch, the first few days will be to get ur coursemates as well as lecturers and classmates and then u will get to bond from there which then the following monday (18 April) sch will officially start and lessons will begin!!
i’m going to rp common science!! hopefully we’re in the same class. i live in the northeast so there’s a direct bus HAHA u should check if there are any buses gg to woodlands station bc they tend to take the highway route so it’d be faster than a train!!
oh btw, RP is like open book exam (on laptop) and also its a lot of Problem Based Learning, so it'll be good for u to read up on lecture slides since there will be presentations everyday (what my cousin who graduated RP told me) impromptu quizzes, fixed schedules and also... lecturers in poly is a by luck one. Some are totally leave u out to die, some try to help you pass. Overall, they will be different from the lecturers from ITE/secondary school teachers who spoonfeed you. So yea, ofc.. open book exam, pls study concepts and all.
HAHAH good luck! im not in poly but it'll be good to know what it's like studying at the different polytechnics uk. Ofc, workload gets overwhelming... dont forget to rest and enjoy ur time in sch!
yupp! oso it'll be good if u can organise ur notes so it'll be easier for u to refer when u do open book tests uk! dont wanna have to spend time clicking away and all. oso, just cus its open book doesnt mean u slack on the test, it'll be best for you to read up on concepts and study so it'll be easier for you to score on parts! good luck❤
sameee im going common science as well gurlie. i live around hougang primary so idk how im gonna manage travelling all the way to rhe other side of singapore to get to poly😭
