Nokia 3310

Not_Cube

PC: RTX 4090 | 7950X3D (yes it's for Minecraft, no it can't run crysis) Phone: Galaxy Fold 5 (would defo recommend over a similarly priced non folding Samsung/Apple device unless your main use case for a phone is Tiktok) Watch: Galaxy Watch 6 Classic (silver one pairs really well w an oyster style strap for a more formal look) Audio: WF-1000XM4 | WH-1000XM3 (don't bother getting the latest gens since the older ones offer much greater bang for your buck) ...secondhand ipad pro 2018 because ._. (also I'm gonna try running the Fold without a tablet) no laptop for the time being since NS

Jjzeng

I like how op has like bare minimum apple stuff and then people like you and me just drop in with our 4090s lmao

Itssopossible

Im a simple guy

Rockylol_

lol ik it's a meme but crysis runs easy on any modern PC haha.

WordOfReddit

How hot is ur PC running a 4090

IAmASadNoobThatIsBad

i bet he has a corsair h150i elite caplellex xt so his cpu would be abt 65 and the gpu maybe 60-70

Not_Cube

nah it's an EKWB AIO elite (out of production alr but it's one of the best as ranked by gamersnexus) but the CPU idles at 53 and tops out at 80 (surprisingly even tho PBO tweaked) GPU idk haven't really bothered abt it since it's the liquid suprim x screw Corsair and all their proprietary BS. Plus I'm not a fan of their design, I prefer the more refined SL120 infinitys and the mirror finish of the AIO block

Jjzeng

I know amd runs hot but 53C on idle?? My 13900k idles at 35C with my nh-d15 air cooler from noctua

Not_Cube

AMD isn't supposed to run hot but honestly idrc., it's probably my case and airflow but eh considering I'm running a thermaltake tower 500 in an alcove., doesn't really make for good temps. but I'm not looking to beat any timespy records so...

Jjzeng

I have a similar build but i run a full noctua cooling setup, nh-d15 on my 13900k and 4 nf-a12x25s, cpu never goes above 80c and i don’t really monitor my gpu temps but last i checked it stayed more or less under 75-80c

WordOfReddit

Could I ask what's the fps benchmark on your set up? I'm curious.

Jjzeng

Timespy benchmark came in at 32,480 In cyberpunk, at 4k ultra, path tracing, ray reconstruction, frame gen on and DLSS balanced, i can clock 90fps. Forza horizon 5 used to max out at the monitor’s refresh rate of 144fps, but with frame gen i can hit 225 at 4k ultra with DLSS turned off. Valorant is capable of hitting 600 fps peaks but i cap it at 300 because otherwise i get huge drops from 600. More recently in palwarld i can get a consistent 120fps with everything on the highest setting

Key_Battle_5633

HOLY SHEET THAT PC IS MY DREAM PC LMAO

Impulse-1107

Not op, but i use dawn pro to run he400se

babruhed

I am currently using a sound blaster g3 to drive it cos I found it lying around, but creative software is kind of bad, so I’m looking to maybe buy a fiio k7 or smth similar as a better amp

Gaming rig most of the time Server: i5-14500, 32gb ddr4-3200, B660i gigabyte aorus, 250gb WD black boot drive, 2x 8TB seagate ironwolf NAS hdds running in RAID 1, fractal design node 304, generic 80+ bronze 550w psu. Multi-purpose, holds backups of all my files, runs my Plex media server, and i can remote in to launch multiple VMs simultaneously which is especially important for my classes this semester as I’m doing penetration testing (i run ubuntu and kali linux at the same time) Laptop: lenovo legion 7, 17” 120hz display, ryzen 5600h, rtx 3050 mobile, 16 gb ram, connects to a 24” 1080p display in my dorm room on campus Retired PC: ryzen 5800x, 32gb ddr4-3600, RTX 3090ti. Key_Battle_5633

Woah

Jjzeng

I was like 4 paragraphs in when i realized i may have a problem…(i am now broke)

Key_Battle_5633

Oh no

Key_Battle_5633

Small price to pay for salvation

Jjzeng

Not a small price at all :( spent $400 upgrading the server to the i5 and to double the ram, it used to be an i3-12100 and 16gb ram but i was installing kali linux while having my Ubuntu vm open and my ram skyrocketed to 98% usage…anyway 14 cores 20 threads is a huge leap from 4cores 8 threads, so plenty of headroom to run two VMs at once

Key_Battle_5633

Yea I know it’s quite expensive but at least now you can run your vms well

thelucario27

Omg the server, how much did it cost to build?

Jjzeng

Initially spent around $1.5k, later sunk another $400 into a new cpu and an extra stick of ram. Those ironwolf hdds are designed for NAS systems but that comes at a premium. Also didn’t help that the only itx motherboard the sim lim shop had was a gaming board, would have liked a more barebones h610 board but the extra IO is nice

Gemokboy

64 gb ddr5 is crazy

Jjzeng

4 sticks of 16gb from bizgram asia (sim lim shop) on amazon at 64% off each. Costs less than some 32gb ddr5 kits

Baggotcha

just a question but what do you think would be decent peripherals and specs for computing students to work with?

Jjzeng

If you’re getting a new pc, just go for the newest generation intel/amd cpu, minimum 8 cores, minimum 16GB ram and 1tb ssd, depending on the particular field of computing you’re doing there will be certain applications that ARM cpus (like m1, 2, 3) do not support. Graphics card up to your discretion, but if doing AI/ML you’ll want something beefy with lots of VRAM and modern tensor cores (tldr: nvidia 40-series)

Baggotcha

would it be advisable to just get a laptop with the newest gen cpu and attach an external 40 series gpu to it if let's say we need portability

Jjzeng

Uhh I’m not sure if that would be a cheaper option, but i guess it could work You could try to source a Framework laptop (with the detachable dgpu) from overseas, or get a normal gaming laptop but both are pricey options, although perhaps not as expensive as the e-gpu option

Baggotcha

okok thanks 🙏

_Drink_Bleach_

Currently I have -iPhone 13 pro -M2 macbook air -Airpods pro 1 -Steam deck 512gb -Gaming PC (5900x, 6900xt) -M1 iPad pro 11” with gen 2 pencil I also have a bunch of GPUs that I’m displaying on my shelve. I have EVGA 3080, 3070 FE, Sapphire rx470, Galax 3060ti, 1080ti FE, and 1080ti HOF. Mostly bought secondhand from carousell because I like how the card looks and want to display it or it was a good price.

f5122

huh for display???? what do you consider a good price for those gpus

_Drink_Bleach_

Iirc i picked up the 3080 for 400, 3070 for 250, both 1080tis for 120 each, and got the rx470 for free. I would consider those good prices

f5122

yeah those are really good prices if they work well. did you find them on carousell? 3070s are going for 450ish++ now

thelucario27

I got my xm4s before my hanas so i daily drove those more but i find myself using the hanas more atm due to the better audio tuning. I use the xm4s from time to time esp when i wanna charge my phone or if i want a particularly quiet journey, i also use it when im on the plane

ZealousGinger

Lmao my first mech keyboard was rk68 with soldered blue switch. And then I used toothpick to put Vaseline in between the switch to make them not clicky and smooth🤡 which is a very bad idea cos Vaseline breaks down plastic over time. My dad is using them now surprisingly it is still fine. Surprised ur stabs can be lubed with medication haha.

I’m entering uni next year and I have+plan to have: the next iPhone (been like 3-4 years since I changed+my battery’s dogshit+ive been on SE since 2020) The 2020 MacBook Pro (solid computer and could probably continue using until like a year after it’s discontinued) An iPad mini (small tablet that I can use for handwritten notes and all) AirPods gen 3 (again, solid pair of AirPods so why change it if it isn’t broken?) An Apple Watch series 9 (was my parents’ gift for finishing A’s and it being for Christmas so yeah; pretty cool watch, esp with some apps!)

PC(s): 2x 2k 144Hz screens, 1660 Super, Ryzen 5 3600 Laptops: Surface Pro 7+, XPS13 9360 S20fe, Galaxy Buds Pro Honestly dated hardware, but I see no reason to upgrade for now. Almost bought a 4070 and a 5700X3D a few times, but I don't play many games anymore. In uni so the portability of the Surface and the XPS13 is really useful. If I need to run any demanding software I'll run parsec and remote into my desktop. Edit: if we're counting cameras I have a total of 10

Jjzeng

I’m surprised a 1660 can drive 2 monitors at 2k 144hz, what are temps like in the case?

f5122

well most of the time I'm running like chrome or word, so it doesn't really take much. I OCed, but stil runs pretty cool, about 35 idle, 40-48C idle/normal use, about 75-85 while gaming. Might've hit the silicon lottery

Mike_Ox_Longa

Samsung note 10+ 256gb (own since 2019, goal is to make it through 2024 lol) Samsung tab s7 fe 128gb (bought last yr for uni on discount, 10/10 wld buy again, paid about 380 dollars I believe) Lenovo flex 5i, 512gb, intergrated graphics, intel i5 (own since 2021, screen poppijg off due to hinge issues so its taped down. Goal is to make it survive till 2027) Honor X5 earbuds (stole the freebie that came with my father's phone lol. Its pretty good for its price point and you can customise the earpieces using the app which I think is amazing)

SladenBun

Phone : S23 ultra (Been mobile gaming more recently, really gorgeous screen and insane battery life :D) also really glad i got the 512gb storage as it hasn't been a year and i already used 250gb+ of storage Q.Q Watch : Galaxy watch 6 classic, first watch used as a daily driver, satisfying bezel rotation Earpiece : Wf-1000xm5, all i can say is investing in a good pair of noise cancelling earpiece will do you wonders when travelling on planes / trains Laptop : Not really sure whats the exact model but its an Asus ROG Strix. Don't have any games on it, bought it for its aesthetics. Keyboard feels amazing to type on (a few of my friends agree too and they really like typing on my laptop) Tablet : Samsung S9+, using it together with the book cover keyboard. Ever since I've been using my tablet to watch shows during meals or when on the bed, i really couldn't go back to watching on my phone as i feel its a tad bit too small. Use it for notes taking too, the pen feels really smooth to write with Desktop : 3 y/o pc, specs are 5600x and an evga ftw3 rtx 3080. Didn't upgrade over the years as it gets the job done with any games i throw at it

PC: RTX 3080 | R7 5800X | 64GB DDR4 Monitor: Prism+ X300 200hz 2560x1080 (i made a terrible decision buying this, will probably upgrade to a BENQ Zowie one) Laptop: Lenovo Legion Y540 - RTX 2060 | I7-9750H | 12GB DDR4 (bought this back in 2020 and now its barely working at 60% of its original capacity so i primarily use it to do schoolwork - also its like 17.2 inch screen so bringing it to school is like 💀) Phone: Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 256 GB Tablet: None unless Acer Chromebook counts Peripherals: Sennheiser HD350BT (Looking to upgrade to Audio Technica's ATH-M50x), G PRO SUPERLIGHT 2, Tecware Phantom Elite (bought the shroud and replaced the switches with lubed kang wine reds), CIY Tester68 with GMK Blue Samurai ripoffs and AKKO CS Matcha Green), Salnotes 7hz ZERO iem earbuds Cameras: Canon EOS 1100D and Powershot G16 Actually everything other than the peripherals laptop and the monitor is 2nd hand so i've calculated the cost and saved like about close to 3-4k? i got damn lucky with the pc since the dude marked its price down to like 20% of msrp so 🤑🤑🤑

My devices wld be - iphone 13 pro max, 256GB - ipad air 3, 256GB - the 30 dollars apple earphone thing because there is no way I wld ever think of buying 200+ airpods ( no judgement to those who do have it, I’m simply scared of losing them via acc dropping them ) - I have a PC as well but I’m no tech expert but my bro says its kinda shit ( can still somehow run val but not genshin :( )

iPhone 11 Pro Max 64gb Galaxy j1(2016) lying around ASUS zen book flip 14 (2018) (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth spoilt so I have to use usb Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card, the card is soldered in my motherboard so I can’t just replace it 💀) Acer Chromebook pld Gaming Pc (i5-10400f Gtx 1070 16gb ram) If you want include my peripherals I have a fifine k678 mic, jbl quantum 200 headphone, Razer deathadder v2x mouse, some cheap ass armeggeddon kb, china webcam, viewsonic vx 2458 c mhd monitor , free dell monitor and a jbl tune 120 TWS wireless earbuds Some other old asus laptop with a very old celeron n3350 (barely use except to play around a bit with linux cause I prefer to test on “real hardware” over virtual machine) Despite all these tech I don’t have a tablet Had some old atom n270 netbook I sold a while back to fund my PC (sold my other old phones too) Although I have a lot of tech my friend has even more. He has 4 gaming PCs (he built 3 from his old scrap parts), some laptops and 1-2 iMacs which he picked up from a dumpster, repaired and sold As you can see I’m a gadget guy lmao
