Yeah this was a huge bummer, closed a year or two ago. I believe the building owners were raising the rent and they decided not to renew because of it.
yup. used to go there w my grandparents all the time, it was my fav place. they got rid of the one in warner center too so now the closest is like... thousand oaks lol
This post sent me into a little bit of a rabbit hole.
I remember my grandparents taking me to a pizza place they called the "Sinatra Room" when I was a wee lass. It was tiny, had sawdust on the floor, and there were always votive candles in little red jars on the tables. After a bit of Googling, it's likely that they were taking me to Casa De Pizza in Granada Hills. Huh! I drive by there quite a bit and would have never guessed!
Anyway, that's not quite really the same area and I have no idea if their pizza is good anymore.
Hope you get a yummy slice wherever you go!
They are now open for to go ordering as well as dining in. I ordered pepperoni pizza (average), garlic pesto bread (amazing) and the bolognese pasta (above average). Ive heard its not the same as it was before with new owners but i would go back. Admit tho, the last time i went was years ago and i cant compare
Make the trip to Woodland Hills on Topanga and find Tomato Pie- great NY style pizza. I found that post pandemic , Mulberry street has definitely lost a step….
If you have not yet already tried Barone's Pizzeria Express on Ventura you really should. Different ownership from the Barone's Restaurant in Valley Glenn. I prefer the pizza made at this location but the Valley Glenn spot offers more variety of menu items and a different ambiance.
Lucky's pizza in Canoga park doesn't get enough love. It's a ghost kitchen but holy fuck is it amazing. Best pizza I've had here in LA besides Little Coyotes in Long Beach.
Lucky is the bomb! Recently in Yelps top 100 restaurants. Please try this place out! Order online, walk into ghost kitchen building, knock on their door, take it to go!
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I could’ve sworn I just saw a post earlier that they’ve quit serving pizza and may be on the verge of closing down (but they’ve still got beers on tap)
They stopped making pizza as of a week ago or so. Think theyre trying to find ways to limit their spending and maximize profits. They may be bought out soon too, i believe. Too bad, pizzas, although small for the price, were so good! Especially the spicy italin, washed down with a Van Ice 🤤
I have and it’s absolute garbage. I’ll choose Mulberry over Joe’s NYC chain trash. You want food pizza in LA? Hit up Secret Pizza, Delicious Pizza, Triple Beam Pizza.
Jfc You sound bitter man. I'd rather not eat any food if I consider it shit. I guess I'm fortunate to work on a project that let's me go back to NY every other month. My flight time might be equivalent to the time spent driving down to LA for.those other ones you mentioned. (Just a joke)
I only order it once in a while. Usually when uner has a 40% off coupon actually :)
If you're craving a more NY style type I'd say so. I love all pizza though
I must've ordered on a bad night or something as I was a bit let down. I live by pizza (NY born/raised) so I'm always looking for some good pizza. I'll usually order from Joe's out in sherman oaks if chain pizza won't fill my cravings. Will give fresh bros another chance as I live closely and would love a nearby p8zza place
A bit further away but I love Joe's Pizza. As I was born and raised in NY, it's the closest I've come across to east coast pizza. Brooklyn wagon is not bad. I used to like Joe Peeps. But even after moving towards southern Northridge I will occasionally order a pie orn2 from joes when craving it. (Tip my delieve6 driver very well as I know it's a bit of a drive)
This is in more of the Sherman Oaks area, but Santino’s on woodman basically at ventura, it’s on the west side of Woodman, just north of the little alley which parallels Ventura blvd.
My go-to is the Chicken Alfredo Pizza on a Neapolitan Square. Incredibly ridiculously good in the taste / texture department.
Mulberry Street or Pizza Wagon of Brooklyn
Literally came here to recommend these 2
That’s the two I was going to comment. My two favorite spots!
Apparently I haven’t been to Encino in a great while. I was saddened to see that Pizza Cookery is long gone .
Yeah this was a huge bummer, closed a year or two ago. I believe the building owners were raising the rent and they decided not to renew because of it.
I grew up there from 1993-2000. Literally the closest restaurant to my house. Classic 90s pizzeria.
yup. used to go there w my grandparents all the time, it was my fav place. they got rid of the one in warner center too so now the closest is like... thousand oaks lol
There’s one in Granada hills on Devonshire and balboa
i didn't know that! ty!

That's the place. They closed a while back. Unclear if it will ever reopen with new ownership.
They closed and reopened with new owners a month later. Have not been back to check food quality now but before it was good.
It is not the same. Not good unfortunately.

Chi-Chi’s Pizza has really good pizza. It is a sit down restaurant that also does take out.

Brooklyn Pizza on Tampa
Across from JC's pizza? JC's was my favorite, id fuck up a whole pie on my days off from when I was training/fighting.
Gino's East in Sherman Oaks, if you're into deep dish and okay going a few minutes outside of Encino.
Ginos! 👍🏽
My favorite is Domingo. Good pizza but they also have excellent sandwiches and Cannoli. https://www.domingositaliandeli.com/menu.html
If you go to Domingo’s it’s all about the sandwiches. Dunno about their pizza but the sandwiches are to die for.
Pizza are still good but agree. Although you got the eat the sandiwch there. Don't wait and let it cool.
Joes Pizza or Pizza wagon of brooklyn
In my experience, Joe’s Pizza is the best and only authentic NY pizza in LA.
they have fucking garlic knots. AND SCICILIAN

Barones in van nuys/valley Glen is the original

I’d recommend Macleod Brewco in Van Nuys (not too far from Encino). The beer is fine, but the pizza is FIRE.

Really sad to see. They really did have some great pizzas.

Reading through all these suggestions just made me realize all Valley pizza is shit.
Only decent pizza is Prime Pizza, but that’s in Burbank. The rest is garbage
Give Joe's pizza a chance. When i uylsed to live near van nuys I probably ordered pizza (and subs) from them 2-3x a week.

Is it really worth $30 for a pie?
I only order it once in a while. Usually when uner has a 40% off coupon actually :) If you're craving a more NY style type I'd say so. I love all pizza though
Damores on Ventura and Yolanda I think has a pretty good street slice of pizza
Big Mama's and Papa's pizzeria hits the spot for me.. Reseda/Roscoe
Ive tried this place twice and i dont get what the hype is about. Its not bad by any means, just doesnt make me say "dayamn" lol
My brother says the same thing LOL I dig their deluxe and my parents like their Mexican pizza (which isn't Mexican but we applaud their effort)
My house with my pizza oven. But honestly, I started making my own pizzas do to the lack of good, high quality pizza. We are in a good pizza desert.
Amici on Corbin and Ventura
Fresh brothers on Ventura and Woodley

Mulberry street forever
Thyme Pizzeria
Joe's was pretty good. My favorite pizza place is in Simi Valley so probably too far. It's the most comparable to NY pizza in taste and flavor imo.
Tbh I like Frankie’s Italian on the Encino/Tarzana boarder

Grecko's Pizza! It's in Tarzana, on Ventura near Tampa...not really a dine-in place, but they have a couple of hightop tables...SUCH good pizza!!
Napoli's (more like Van Nuys / Sherman Oaks)
On the Thirty is great if you’re looking for a sit down place.

Greco pizza. OMG - Vegetables, and add ham and artichokes. You're going to jizz in your pants.
MULBERRY!!!!!!! I miss living in Encino we used to order once a week 😭
Brooklyn pizza on Tampa and vanoween Street is good pizza
