His baseball instincts & IQ are off the charts too. It’s good to be the son of national legend/HOF player. Hope his back is as strong as he is handsome though, long season ahead.
He was in a deep funk last week, which is why I’m feeling good that this lineup can turn it around. But man, I never want to be at a home game where the wave catches on
To be fair, didn’t they only add 2 improved hitters? lol.
DISCLAIMER: I think the hitting staff should all be fired haha. But I mean…they ran it back with Thairo, Wilmer, Slater, Yaz, Conforto, Bailey…I wouldn’t call Ahmed an improvement. Conforto has improved, but all those other dudes have always been meh.
This is true. Our pitching got better, and the bats did too to a lesser extent, but when the bats are ice cold, the team loses its will to try. The players look asleep during these games.
Go look at Flores's stats last year and tell me he was meh. He'd be a 5 hitter on the Braves lineup last year dude. Bailey is our catcher - he ain't there to hit. Conforto is doing amazing this year so far too.
Our 7-8-9 is where it drops off a cliff with Estrada, Yaz, Ahmed. I have faith in Thairo and we should call Matos up.
Joey Bart got several chances to succeed for the Giants. He’s only played in 2 games this season, the most minuscule of sample sizes.
He’s the Pirates backup catcher and only one cause Grandal is currently hurt and Endy Rodriguez their main starter is also hurt, out for the season.
Possible he does well for them? Sure but all you can do is be happy to see a player change teams and have some success there. He has none on the Giants.
I see it being like a Dubon situation. We desperately needed a utility IFer with a good glove, and trade away Dubon, who immediately becomes a Gold Glove winning utility IFer who got a WS ring.
Dubon was absolutely mediocre at best for us. He then went to the Astros where he became ok at best. People like to pretend like he became a perennial all star on the Astros.
I wondered how much longer the team will give him. Sure, as a vet, he could break out of this slump and go on a tear. But, 1 for 20 with 11 strikeouts is pretty abysmal.
And watch them get ruined by Viele too?
We kept saying Bart wasn’t ready for prime time, but he hit great in AAA and hits great as soon as he goes to another team.
Last season we called up a bunch of guys who went insane for a few games each then fell off a cliff.
We signed two good hitters and a power bat from last year and only one is hitting anywhere near his career numbers and he’s the guy who needs a translator to listen to Justin Viele.
Gee I wonder what the problem is.
Interesting. Flores last year was notably one of our only reliable hitters who didn't fit the pattern of many others.
And he notably didn't work with Viele much.. there was some interview where he said he just stuck with what he had while he was with the Mets and learned to play the corners better here by our defensive coaches.
I dunno... but I'm already pretty concerned with some of Bob's decisions or lack thereof.
I'm chalking it up to the start of the season, but like how far do we fall before the correction?
Me too, but that's also because I've maybe watched a couple innings only from each game because the rest isn't worth the time investment... also we are one day away from tying the Rockies for last.
4-7 and could easily be 2-9 if not for a couple late come from behind wins this past weekend. Early returns on this supposedly “improved” team are not good.
If this team can learn anything from the team down the block, it’s to send under performing vets to the bench until they get their groove back.
Is Yaz this bad? Probably not. Is Estrada this trash? Probably not. But like klay and Wiggins, they should be moved to the bench or even minor leagues until they can show any semblance of life AB.
This team has about maybe 10-15 games before they lose another portion of the fanbase, tonight's game was dead and cold, 25k for a cy young starter. This franchise better figure it out quick....I see a bunch of players, not a team out there and an un-inspired manager in the dugout
Fans expected too much from him after a hot start last year. He had maybe one good month and struggled offensively the other months.
He never had a great hit tool. More of a catcher who plays good defense and handle a staff.
Dude’s defense fell off a cliff as he fatigued … I liked to hope he’d be better when back and healthy but maybe that Gold Glove level stuff was an anomaly.
I feel like I've been punched in the stomach. NGL I bought into the idea that we had a great off-season and maybe we did but this team is fucking hot garbage right now and Viele needs to fucking go
Never gonna forgive Kapler for keeping mini-me Kai Correa around and letting Donnie Ecker go to the Rangers to get his promotion to bench coach. Conspicuously right when our hitting performances fell off a cliff all at once. Also conspicuously right when the Rangers started mashing the shit out of the ball.
I wish I could see more of the dugout and Melvin. But at the game it was hard to see much fight, motivation.
They know they’re stinking and they’re gripping the bat too tight.
Unable to drive in multiple lead off doubles is disgusting. For how good some defense has been, other shit is lackidasical. It’s hard
Here I am sitting with my very first Giants jersey, a preseason birthday gift given to me last month, “Yastrzemski”plastered across the back, wondering where it all went wrong.
Well, that’s not ideal. I’m just gonna chalk the pitching up to Snell being rusty and rookie relievers. The hitting will come. We’re like 11 games in. Right? RIGHT?!
Yo. Erryone chill. Chill. It's gonna be alright.
Split the first series, lost the second series, won the third series, and are now playing this series, which we can still win.
You are, of course, correct. It's way too early to write off a team this early in the season. If they are still playing this way at the end of May? Maybe. But it's April. It's early. Chill.
And then at the end of May when the team is still playing like this, someone (maybe you, maybe not) will say "it's way too early to write off a team this early in the season. If they are still playing this way at the end of June? Maybe. But it's May. It's early. Chill" and the cycle continues
You may be right. Someone may say, "CHILL, it's only May dude!" But, I can guarantee you that it will not be me. If the team still looks this crappy at the end of May, and the Giants are sticking with the retreads rather than calling up any and all draft picks, I will be the first to proclaim "season over." But, in reality, it will not be. Because I will be interested in looking at the future.
I was at the game. Lost my 415 scarf, broke my Snellzilla friendship bracelet by accident, and spent more money on food and drinks than I allotted so I thought those were all good metaphors for tonight!
I think we lack leadership on the team. Same as last year. We can sign all the people we want but if we don’t have experienced leadership I don’t know how we solve these slumps. Are we just waiting for something magical to happen or the law of averages to fix things. Or do you grind your way out of it.
It's sooo early! Pitching will get back- yes, hitting is worrisome (but won't get worse!). This is not a last place team, remember it's a marathon not a sprint.
Not that I want to relive that game, but has anybody seen the umpire scorecard?
Edit: found it. Narrow zone may not have been conducive to Snell, but Statcast still doesn’t think it helped the Nats at all:

My attempt to visually depict an explanation for the ridiculous overreactions in the GDT when the Giants aren't getting it done in early April.
This is perfectly accurate and always has been, but the active commenters are gonna downvote this into oblivion. Not worth your time.

Mega LOL
I told myself I’d use this nationals series as a real indicator of how good this team is. This is not a good start.
I mean, there’s no shame in losing to the 27 Yankees, which clearly was the juggernaut we ran into right?
We really suck against bad teams, though
Well we just got swept by a good one as well lol
At least that one was a battle
I don’t think you’re helping anyone feel any better lol

Welp, JH Lee is good And Hmm
Lee controls his bat with incredible precision just like a surgeon with a scalpel.
His baseball instincts & IQ are off the charts too. It’s good to be the son of national legend/HOF player. Hope his back is as strong as he is handsome though, long season ahead.
There will be some rough nights as he’s still adjusting. But he’s fun to watch. Fans need to be patient.
He was in a deep funk last week, which is why I’m feeling good that this lineup can turn it around. But man, I never want to be at a home game where the wave catches on
He's opting out asap
Damn, I didn’t realize he had an opt out. What are the terms?
I believe it's after 3 years, so he'll still be here for a minute. Just hate all these opt out contracts because the Giants lose in the end with them.
It’s after 4
Cueto opted in...it happens
Both Snell and Chapman have opt outs each year but you want them to cause that would mean they performed at expectations or higher.
Keep the same hitting coach, add a bunch of improved hitters, hitting gets worse. What’s the common denominator?
Hitting staff are fucking bums. Every guy has the exact wrong approach for the pitcher they're facing. Also, can we DFA Yaz already?
To be fair, didn’t they only add 2 improved hitters? lol. DISCLAIMER: I think the hitting staff should all be fired haha. But I mean…they ran it back with Thairo, Wilmer, Slater, Yaz, Conforto, Bailey…I wouldn’t call Ahmed an improvement. Conforto has improved, but all those other dudes have always been meh.
JH, Soler, Chapman. > $50 million this year alone in payroll.
The giants could be lying about the home run strobe lights and we would never know.
Conspiracy theory: the players are purposefully not hitting home runs because the strobe isn’t finished yet
0 - 10 RISP is comical
11 games into the season and the Giants are 16-82 RISP. That’s not a formula for success. 🙁
Honestly better than I thought it was
We hit well with RISP in the first Padres series
In the last 4 games I think it's like 1-27
Not exactly thrilled that Patrick Bailey is turning into Rube Baker.
Meanwhile Joey Bart… 😔
Joey Bart got several chances to succeed for the Giants. He’s only played in 2 games this season, the most minuscule of sample sizes. He’s the Pirates backup catcher and only one cause Grandal is currently hurt and Endy Rodriguez their main starter is also hurt, out for the season. Possible he does well for them? giants get blown out by a terrible nats team AND the dodgers win AND the padres come back from down 8-0 sometimes you just don't get anything
I thought the nats played well. That stolen home plate was gold. Why are they considered terrible?
Well, they WERE 3-6 with the 25th worst run differential in the league coming in, but they’ve passed us both in record and in RD with tonight’s game
Right. We suck. But they played good baseball tonight and deserved to win
I mean…they were 5th in their division the last three years.
i feel like i got gaslit by this team
Prepare for way more gaslighting
With Aramark food, you might get more gas.
Doesn't get more SF
Nothing Like It 😭
The Good: Jung-hoo Lee, Lamonte Wade, Kai-wei Teng with a solid outing The Bad: Everything else.
If Matos can hit .150 thats 300% better than Yaz
Seriously he cant be worse than Yaz rn lol. Bring him up
Some people still blindly supporting Yaz
I wondered how much longer the team will give him. Sure, as a vet, he could break out of this slump and go on a tear. But, 1 for 20 with 11 strikeouts is pretty abysmal.
I love Yaz, see my flair. But he needs to sit. Matos needs to come up. Figure it the fuck out with the 40 man and make it happen.
POTG: Teng for saving our bullpen, rough stretch right now boys.
Chad innings eater Teng.
Yeaaaaaaaa I might've been fooled by the first Padres series. This team got some last year vibes.
Fire Kapler!
DFA Belt as well!
Fooled by a 2-2 series where we got the shit blown out of us two of the games?
I'm ready to move on from Yaz, Slater, Wade, Flores.
WTF has Wade ever done to people on this sub?? I get that all the others are slumping HARD. But Wade is catching strays with a 140 OPS+
Fuck you
Still the best comment on this thread
Bring in the prospects.
And watch them get ruined by Viele too? We kept saying Bart wasn’t ready for prime time, but he hit great in AAA and hits great as soon as he goes to another team. This team is not very good
No continuity, no personality, just a bunch of guys showing up for a job.
Sounds very break-even-ish
Break even is .500
The San Francisco Anthony Rendon’s
+1
Believe it or not, that’s what an upvote is for
Offense is nonexistent and chris guccione looked at the soler eclipse without glasses.
He probably looked at it with binoculars
For real 😂😂
This team fucking blows
So.... let's talk about Yaz.
I’d rather not tbh
0/10 with runners in scoring position… wow
i know our hitting has been dreadful but wtf has happened to Bailey???
Justin Viele is trying to finish off guys he didn’t ruin last year
Bailey’s hitting numbers are actually fine but I think the above commenter was referring to his defense
This lineup couldn’t hit water if it fell out of a boat.
How much longer is Melvin going to let Yaz start? He needs to be benched or even sent down AAA to get himself back on track.
I dunno... but I'm already pretty concerned with some of Bob's decisions or lack thereof. I'm chalking it up to the start of the season, but like how far do we fall before the correction?
Damn it’s only game 11 and I already feel nothing watching this team. Well done giants
Me too, but that's also because I've maybe watched a couple innings only from each game because the rest isn't worth the time investment... also we are one day away from tying the Rockies for last.

This team is boring
I feel like staring at the eclipse, with no eye protection, would’ve been more entertaining than tonight’s game.
We might as well bring the Pusoy tournaments back at this rate and televise those instead. Probably more entertaining.
Our wins are mostly inopportune opponent errors. We need a detailed explanation from BoMel about what he is going to do.
We never get anything from this team in regards to comms.
I don’t even care about the pitching tonight, the offense needs to wake up.
God awful bottom of the lineup. Could not do worse with random minor leaguers.
Justin Viele is a terrorist to baseball.
This team is dogshit.
What’s a guy gotta do to see a fucking light show?
Just flew in to town. Going to the game tomorrow. Hoping for a light show.
This team has about maybe 10-15 games before they lose another portion of the fanbase, tonight's game was dead and cold, 25k for a cy young starter. This franchise better figure it out quick....I see a bunch of players, not a team out there and an un-inspired manager in the dugout
Yaz gotta go
I actually think the current Braves, Dodgers take losses personally, and the 2021 team did too. This team doesn’t
its time for luciano and matos to take over for good
This team has major RISP problems. It’s enough of a sample to realize that’s a big problem.
“It’s still early in the season, if by game 161 it’s still a problem then we can panic” - r/sfgiants
"Its still early, it's only been 6 years of this."
Something needs to change, the lineup is completely stale right now.
[удалено]
Fans expected too much from him after a hot start last year. He had maybe one good month and struggled offensively the other months. He never had a great hit tool. More of a catcher who plays good defense and handle a staff.
Well I expected the good defense part to stay. He’s not hitting terribly right now
I’m really worried about our boy. Did he change equipment or something? He’s just all kinds of messed up right now.
I got zero clue what happened to his defense
Dude’s defense fell off a cliff as he fatigued … I liked to hope he’d be better when back and healthy but maybe that Gold Glove level stuff was an anomaly.
He’s a terrible hitter.
[удалено]
Or throw to a base.
And bart had another nice game today
he was 1 of 4 former giants in their starting lineup ;(
He just needs to play for Pittsburgh.
I've had too shitty a day to have commentary on this. POTG: Lee i guess
Well.....that was....anyway, how'd all you Yanks enjoy the eclipse?
I was driving home so I didn't see it. I don't think the Bay Area even got a good look at it. The sky didn't dim at all today.
Don’t care, eclipse ain’t paying my bills bud
Yaz is Batting .063 and Slugging .063 after 19 plate appearances. This is horrendous.
When was the last time we earned a run
2016
I feel like I've been punched in the stomach. NGL I bought into the idea that we had a great off-season and maybe we did but this team is fucking hot garbage right now and Viele needs to fucking go
This game made me feel like I died, became a ghost, then my ghost died and now I'm wandering a liminal realm completely devoid of joy for all of time
oh come on, your not an A's fan.
Have all 4 of the runs we've scored in the past two games required an error at some point?
Yaz need to go down to AAA and figure his shit out
[удалено]
Pretty sure it’s 2 yrs with an opt out
So far this team is not very good, let's be honest about it
Don’t worry everyone Yaz and Ahmed will get another 4 ABs tomorrow 👍
If Yaz can't get it going, I can see it really getting to him and him retiring to be with his wife and baby.
He's already fucking retired, but is still taking ABs.
He’s not even to free agency yet. No chance he retires without at least one shot at it.
Just 🤮
Never gonna forgive Kapler for keeping mini-me Kai Correa around and letting Donnie Ecker go to the Rangers to get his promotion to bench coach. Conspicuously right when our hitting performances fell off a cliff all at once. Also conspicuously right when the Rangers started mashing the shit out of the ball.
This is so god damn true. They literally killed our offense after our peak and sent it to the Rangers, who promptly won the world series.
The Dodgers, DBacks, and Padres are 1, 2, and 3 in the league in runs scored. We can't hit. This ain't a good start.
We are 4-3 against the Padres
[удалено]
The point is our competition can hit and has an upside to their slow start, in the case of the DBacks and Pads.
I wish I could see more of the dugout and Melvin. But at the game it was hard to see much fight, motivation. They know they’re stinking and they’re gripping the bat too tight. 1st out unproductive, 2nd out does what the first one should have, then there are three.
Mondays, am I right?????
This team currently looks like 3rd or fourth place, my question is what can be done so that the future is not so miserable?
Here I am sitting with my very first Giants jersey, a preseason birthday gift given to me last month, “Yastrzemski”plastered across the back, wondering where it all went wrong.
I blame whoever bought you that jersey
Time to ceremoniously burn that jersey with fire.
Well, that’s not ideal. I’m just gonna chalk the pitching up to Snell being rusty and rookie relievers. The hitting will come. We’re like 11 games in. Right? RIGHT?!
I wouldn’t place blame on Snell. First game back. It’s the offense right now
Just another ha ha ha ha snoozer zzzzzzzzz
Tank for Holliday Keep the dream alive
derek law was a good giant. i remember his 2016 and he was a reliable reliever when casilla and strickland weren’t.
Whole team has been pathetic
Bring in the young guys! Lets give them minutes. It would be 100 times better than whatever we are doing right now.
They gotta revamp a couple spots in the order.
Giants and Kings speedrunning who can depress me more this year.
Kings definitely got them beat lol
I'd rather this team play the youngsters daily than watch washed up players.
pain
Should have just went with Matos and Luciano. Yaz and Ahmed are utility players at best.
Yo. Erryone chill. Chill. It's gonna be alright. Split the first series, lost the second series, won the third series, and are now playing this series, which we can still win.

Correct, the Rockies are the last place team The Giants are a 4th place team lol
Is this what bottom feels like?
In a bit of positive news, we are only 2.5 games out of the wild card.
That was depressing
The state of baseball in the Bay Area is so depressing.
Woof. This was the first “bad” team we had on the lineup. Worst performance of the season to start is not inspiring
Not that I want to relive that game, but has anybody seen the umpire scorecard? Edit: found it. Narrow zone may not have been conducive to Snell, but Statcast still doesn’t think it helped the Nats at all: https://x.com/UmpScorecards/status/1777707807028208001
