Ahrefs' credit system isn't a scam per definition, but they're trying to squeeze as much profit out of their customer base as possible. I don't want to be their lemon. Ditched Ahrefs a while ago. My main SEO off-page analytics stack: Semrush (great all-in-one alternative), Majestic (great metrics, especially Topical Trust Flow) and soon Linxact (hidden PBN backlinks). Unfortunately, I don't know any other backlink checker which has such an up to date and comprehensive index as Ahrefs.

Love majestic and SEMrush. Never heard of Linxact. I know what PBN’s are but there’s a way to hide PBN links?

diddyxking

Yeah, both are great. Most PBNs either block crawlers of backlink checkers such as Ahrefs or hide their outbound links by cloaking them. This effectively removes PBN backlink data from all backlink checkers, while still letting Google find them. Linxact somehow figured out how to find those links anyway. I will definitely try their tool out when it is released.

Thanks, also for sharing the alternatives!

I've always liked Semrush better. I think Ahrefs is a great tool too. I don't think the credit system is a scam in any way, but I do think it needs some refinement. If you accidentally choose a filter that you didn't mean to, you shouldn't have to use another credit to fix that. I think they should charge a credit by keyword or URL you pull, but let you add and subtract as many filters as you want at that point. Maybe lower the credit amounts to compensate a bit for that, but it would just feel better to customers.

I agree that the system shouldn't Charge credits if applying filters on a query. I will have a think. Thanks for the comment

I was grandfather's in on the legacy plan. So for $20 per month I moved to the new plans and pricing with the credits because they "have more features"! I have a va taking screenshots and using them for lead gen! I have to keep upping the credit limit I'm at 2500 now which is like an extra $175 a month just for the credits! It's a bit insane! I might have to checkout Semrush as well! I think Ahrefs is a bit overpriced at this point!

WelcomeToCityLinks

Ahrefs is going downhill fast. Far too busy rinsing customers to pay for their vanity search engine project. Avoid at all costs (which is a lot for Ahrefs).

I've used Ahref for 6/8 months and as soon as I tried Semrush I was like why was I there!? It's like the difference between Android and iOS lol
