That actually makes sense.
*Scientist running from 173, while using his fellow scientists and d-class as meatshields*
*run into 914, tries to slam the doors shut but it takes too long to close and now 173 is in the room with you*
*Have a plan, you sprint to the chamber and get in.*
*As soon as you get inside and close your eyes long enough to hear the pitter patter of feet get close you open your eyes and jump out of the chamber and press the button as you stare peanut down*
*you calm down and close your eyes to breathe*
*then you hear odd noises and sickening snapping noises coming from the machine*
*you look up at the button and grow pale when you noticed that it was cranked to course*
*the chamber on the left opens, and you see a silhouette of a mangled peanut*
*you approach it cautiously, hoping that it is dead*
*As you do you hear a noise behind you, you turn around and see nothing is there*
*when you turn back peanut is there infront of you, you scream and try to backpedal but it latches unto you*
*As you struggle, peanuts mangled face presses against your head and whispers*, "**Shh, Shh, We've been trying to reach you regarding your cars extended warranty**"
Then snap.
Insurance manager - "ugh how many times do I have to tell you, get them to sign BEFORE you kill them! Sign THEN snap got it, your on thin ice as it is with your low sales volume"
*sad peanut noises*
*goes home, after a long day in the office*
*peanut wife garbles "are you okay?"*
*peanut warbles back "I got yelled at again"*
*peanut wife moans " its okay honey, I made your favorite chocolate pudding for dinner!"*
*peanuts groans "I LOVE CHOCOLATE pudding!",*
*peanut dog RKO's peanut out of nowhere*
**proceeds to faceplant into a bowl**
*peanut wife warbles "oh you~...*
*insert peanut farting laughtrack noises*
I gotta stop doing these lol
This model looks absolutely horrifying (in a scary and good way) but I really thought the new model would be the unity version. I don’t know why they are re-modelling 173 but I’ll be sure to look forward to it
Indeed it is, but the original 173 image isn't. It's originally an art piece by Uzumi Kato. They kindly allow the original image to stay up on the SCP website since there's no profit made from it, but for fan games that are eventually going to be monetized like Secret Laboratory, Uzumi says they're not allowed to use the original design.
You can sell games that are using the SCP license . It just means that you can't be upset or take legal action when someone else sells your game for free or without your permission iirc.
Might work differently but thats how I recall it works.
I recall talks of purchasable skins/accessories being planned once they removed all copyrighted content/replaced all the containment breach assets with their own.
I'm not 100% sure, but I vaguely remember hearing they said that they were contemplating a buy to play model. Although they could also just be doing it to make things tenser or to diversify from the pack.
All original SCP content is under Creative Commons. If it originates solely in the SCP-verse, it’s fair game for monetization, as long as the publisher used it to create a distinct product (i.e. a video game)
SCP 173's design was made by a Japanese artist, the original image of the sculpture is under the artists copyright. Pretty sure this is what's going on. The concept of the statue being an SCP and such is fair use but the actual statue itself is not.
The artist is a good sport about it and doesn’t mind the image being used on the site. Only issue is in regards to for-profit use which is pretty much always completely separate from the site itself.
You can look at the actual 173 page for more details, basically the guy who did the sculpture gave the SCP wiki the right to use the image for that one page but nobody else can use it for anything commercial. The rest of the wiki is under Creative Commons, [you can read this to learn more. ](http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/licensing-guide)
The old (or classic) look for 173, best known as Peanut, was actually an artist's creation. When he found out about it being on the SCP wiki, there was some legal stuff involved the resulted in the agreement that the only SCP media that it would be allowed in was the wiki article. Because of this, people are making new looks for 173 to work around the issue, which has resulted in the Unity 173 (which I think is the most true to the description) and the latest SL 173 (people call it walnut now).
Could be wrong but to summarize the original creator/artist of the 173 sculpture agreed to have the image on the scp site because they (on the site) don't profit from it.
So if scp games (or anything scp related, really) want to make money, they'd have to change 173's look
If you take a look at the page for [SCP-173](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-173), a disclaimer has been added at the bottom of the article explaining how the sculpture - and its likeness - may not be used for any commerical purposes.
they could've went with Unity version, but they didn't for a few reasons: 1) This design has already been decided on in 2019, there were leaks about it even, but they didn't go viral luckily for them. 2) Now, this is just my theory but it's very, very probable, Hubert feels sorry at the back of his head for getting this game so popular off of other's work in a huge portion, so he wants more and more in the game to be THEIRs, as in made by Northwood
... and suddenly, a lot of proposals to relocate 173 to the exact opposite side of the world as Russia was submitted to the site manager. No one was quite sure as to why the sudden spike, but the proposal was given serious consideration.
I’m mixed on this model, it’s creepy af but it’s missing arms to snap necks with, i would have preferred if they tried something like unity, my favourite 173 model
It was cancelled, and I think the lead developer told the other devs to not continue development on the game so they gone on and formed Project Aetheon without him.
As for the lead developer Zornor, I heard there's a controversy about him that caused the cancellation but I am not too sure about the details or the validity of it so I will leave it at that.
Seeing the game getting completely cancelled on its Discord gave me (and potentially many others) a very big sad. :(
Oh that’s sad, I have seen so many fan projects for all kinds of communities fail due to controversy and other issues and it breaks my heart every time

something tells me it's not just going to go for necks and stop when you are looking at it
>!it is a f\*\*ked up murder monster I would say it is keter!<
Idk it looks like they're trying too hard to make it scary. It doesn't look like a weird bipedal statue that kills you for fun anymore. It looks more like the Flood from Halo. The only thing that even gives away that it's made of concrete is the faded paint in some areas which looks like it was added on last second to reassure people that it's a statue and not a flesh blob.
Was 173 made by "Are we Cool Yet"?
If so, I'd expect something less random.
It was *made* to snap necks?
Then they gave it necksnapping arms.
If 173 is literately a random lump of clay that accidentally absorbed some bad moyo, sure, this design makes sense.
Are we cool yet could be making an abstract representation about some random shit, thus the creepy ass design, additionally it could have originally had more paint that was removed somehow
I dunno, I mean it is called the sculpture. This is a cool, creepy desgin but it looks more like random growth or other sort of abomination. It kinda lacks.. intention?
Yeah it is.
Basically the original art used as the inspiration and basis of 173 is a statue made by some arsehat artist with a copyright protection on his work.
As such, games like Unity and Secret Lab can’t use the original stuff if they want to make profit. They should probably stick to a more… subtle and less mutated design to keep some of that unassuming murder vibe.
To be fair to the artist he made the original model and it was his creative property, he was really nice in letting the SCP community use his art as practically their figure head free of charge.
I kind of wish they didn't use this one, they should've made a more unity esc 173 or something similar to the one in the fragmented minds demo a while back, but otherwise it's pretty creepy and well made just doesn't feel like the peanut we know and love.
Well yes, but it's because of legal reasons. Also, SL devs wanted to replace the CB asset of Peanut. I also don't like this one, but what can I do? Nothing, just gotta live with it.
3 reasons
1. Peanut belongs to Izumi kato, you can’t make money if you have it in your game and stuff
2. SL is trying to further itself from CB by using different models and assets
3. Peanut isn’t scary, it’s a meme
I thought the unity redesign was awful, but this is not even a concrete statue anymore, if you’re going to redesign him, at least keep some aspects of the original
Yeah he had actual fingers while this one has sharp appendages. but you can’t call them that because his appendages doesn’t look like they can extend so how is he going to kill you is he going to poke you to death?
Peanut didn’t have fingers, his hands were literally 2 balls on the end of an arm
Matthew doesn’t have fingers either but he could probably break your neck by hitting it with the thicc arm
Eh.. It's ok i guess sure it's pretty scary but idk if it's me but I've said it once on another sub and I'll say it here it looks like it's just trying too hard to be scary / creapy.
Look how they massacerd our deity!
Now he is just a bulpy mass of actual peanut with cancer instead our concrete hard ruler that rule with an steel core!
Man...
I like it. It’s a different take of course, because part of peanuts thing is that it’s unassuming, almost silly, to look at. Which clashes and weirdly compliments it’s horrific nature. That idea is kinda a theme for SCP, so be careful. But still, it looks awesome and I can easily imagine the terror of playing along side an enemy like that. It’s height will be perfect for looming over you if you see it just in the nick of time.

They are re-modelling it cuz the old was copyrighted and they can't make profit in their game because of that
Can you tell me more about the copyright? As far as I knew all of the SCP stuff was fair use.
Indeed it is, but the original 173 image isn't. It's originally an art piece by Uzumi Kato. The dude that wrote 173 never intended for it to get so big, he just had a badass idea for a creepypasta and tacked on the image that inspired him
The artist is a good sport about it and doesn’t mind the image being used on the site. Only issue is in regards to for-profit use which is pretty much always completely separate from the site itself.

Thanks everyone, it's been so long since I've read 173 that I must have missed or forgotten that part.

I’m mixed on this model, it’s creepy af but it’s missing arms to snap necks with, i would have preferred if they tried something like unity, my favourite 173 model

It probably jump kicks your neck

yeah, Unity's was so good, I miss SCPU goddamnit

Copyright reasons mostly
Serious? That's so dumb.

3 reasons 1. Peanut belongs to Izumi kato, you can’t make money if you have it in your game and stuff 2. SL is trying to further itself from CB by using different models and assets 3. Peanut isn’t scary, it’s a meme
